So some of the ilKhans got really, and I mean REALLY wasted one night. Like I'm talking a captured pirate shipment of Pan-Galactic Gargleblasters wasted. And brought the Scientist-Chaste in to make them "an 80-ton can-opener" Naturally the Scientist's first thought was "Oh, they want a battlemech!" So they made the Thrasher. In reality they actually wanted a literal 80-ton can opener for this huge-**** can of Pork and Beans they scored of the captured pirates.
The Scientists were subsequently punished for insubordination.
The Thrasher mounts 2 Retractable Blades as it's main armament, but carries an ER PPC and AMS system to help defend against ranged threats. A pair of ER Medium Lasers and ER Small Pulse Lasers give it defense at just outside of melee range, as well as an anti-infantry weapon. It's Active Probe ensures it's foes can't hide from it. While 4 Jump Jets and a MASC system ensure it can close to melee to deliver it's namesake "Thrashing".
Built as a dueling 'Mech in the zelbrigen tradition, this 'Mech uses a Small Cockpit and carries no indirect fire weapons or ECM. The AMS and Active Probe deters foes from using them as well. 12 tons of Ferro-Fibrous Armor and an all energy / melee loadout give it plenty of longevity.

I would believe the clans would be reluctant to use small cockpits for mechs. Their pilots are bred for combat inside and outside of a mech.
Being set up for physical combat is another thing that might not be clannish. It looks a light on arms for an 80 ton mech, but then that is an odd weight to try and get good speed and still have enough for other things. In close fighting, should have a little more short ranged weapons.
It is a little shock that this isn't an omni, but given the fact it is mission specific, I can understand why.
