While CASE is designed to contain and redirect an explosion, Internal Detonation Suppressors are designed to prevent them outright. By sacrificing roughly 20% (rounded up) of one's live ammunition, these insulated dummy rounds filled with compressed Helium and flame-retardant compounds will rupture upon being struck, in an attempt to stop an explosion before it occurs.

Every time an ammunition bin takes a critical hit, roll 1d6 for each (remaining) half-ton of ammunition in that bay (or fraction thereof). It also allows you to reroll any 1s in a failed roll to prevent an ammunition explosion from overheating, though you may only do so once and must take the second result, even if it still contains a 1.

On a successful roll with a target number of 4 per remaining half-ton of ammunition (or fraction thereof), the ammunition is destroyed, but all further damage is prevented (and no further explosions can occur thanks to the ammunition being rendered inert), and the pilot does not suffer biofeedback from an internal detonation.

On a failed roll, divide the result on the dice for each remaining half-time of ammunition (or fraction thereof) and then multiply the final result by 10, treating that as a percentage of damage reduction (so a final result of 3 will equal 30% damage reduction). Unlike CASE, any explosion that does occur is neither contained, nor redirected. As a consequence of this, the damage can still spread to other sections of the mech.

Internal Detonation Suppressors must be loaded into a mech on a per weapon basis, reducing your Ammunition Per Ton by 20% (rounded up), and if it is loaded into one ammunition bay for a particular weapon, then it must be loaded into all ammunition bays for that type of weapon. If a mech carries a Multi-Missile Launcher 3 and a Multi-Missile Launcher 7, for instance, then all LRM bays and SRM bays must be loaded with a 20% compliment of Internal Detonation Suppressors.

Gauss Rifles and other explosive capacitor-based weapons also cannot be protected by Internal Detonation Suppressors. Similarly, One-Shot weapons such as Rocket Launchers cannot be protected either.

On the flipside, Internal Detonation Suppressors do not require any extensive modification to a mech; as long as a weapon can be reloaded, these things can be stuffed into its ammo bay.

In World War II, an ancient technology known informally as the Wet Ammo Rack was introduced on experimental units, which combined the functionality of both an Internal Detonation Suppressor and CASE. However, it tended to be very heavy and did not have a 100% success rate, fading into obscurity and becoming lost technology by the time the Age of War rolled around.

Terran Hegemony engineers attempted to recreate this technology this technology along the same time that they introduced CASE, but they were unsuccessful. Even Star League, and later, Clan engineers attempted it as well, but success remained illusive until the Inner Sphere independently attempted to create their own (semi-successful) prototypes late into the Clan Invasion, with subsequent (more successful) prototypes during Word of Blake's Jihad, and then finally entering full production during the reign of the Republic of the Sphere.
