Description:

The Operator Station is a system consisting of specialized computers and monitoring apparatuses tied to a console that is designed to be operated by a single person. It was developed by the Terran Hegemony, entering the prototype phase in 2586 and reaching production status in 2590. It is highly useful for garrisons and espionage actions, providing enhancements to remote surveillance and advanced encryption / decryption equipment. While the standard layout for Operator Stations provide enough equipment and work space for a single person, it is possible to construct Operator Stations that provide enough equipment and work space for up to six people. By 2750 this technology was fairly commonplace; if not necessarily widespread, and while the Succession Wars did make this piece of kit more in demand, it never went extinct in the Inner Sphere.

Gameplay Rules:

The Operator Station when active provides a 2 Point Bonus to any checks made while attempting to hack into a Satellite, as well as providing the unit with the ability to monitor twice as many Remote Sensors as it could otherwise. While in play, the Operator Station requires at one person to crew it in order to gain any benefits from it. The benefits derived from the Operator Station are active so long as one person is crewing it and the mounting unit's engine is running. If mounted in a unit with only one crew member, space is provided for that crew member to switch stations. If the unit is a BattleMech or similar; please note that the crew member cannot pilot the craft AND crew the Operator Station at the same time. Furthermore, the Operator Station allocates provision for an additional crew member or passenger equivalent to the Rumble Seat Design Quirk.

Construction Rules:

The Operator Station does not require additional tonnage or critical space be allocated for it's crew members; the tonnage and critical space for it's crew is included within the item's mass and critical space. Only BattleMechs, IndustrialMechs, Combat Vehicles, Support Vehicles, Small Craft and Dropships may mount an Operator Station. Multiple Operator Stations may be mounted, increasing the number of Remote Sensors that may be monitored at a time by two for each additional Operator Station that is manned and increasing the Satellite hacking bonus by one for each Operator Station manned. Operator Stations are not tied to a unit's Sensors and will function even if they are disabled. and are designed in such a way as to not impose an additional strain on a BattleMech or IndustrialMech's Life Support if mounted in such a unit. BattleMechs may not mount this with alongside a Cockpit Command Console, nor in combination with a Small Cockpit, Dual Cockpit, Torso-Mounted Cockpit or Interface Cockpit. Combat Vehicles and Support Vehicles may mount this alongside a Cockpit Command Console. Although Small Ships and Dropships may mount Operator Stations; they may not utilize the bonuses to Remote Sensor monitoring unless they have landed. No unit regardless of type, mass or crew count may mount more than six Operator Stations at a time. BattleMechs and IndustrialMechs are limited to mounting only one, and the Operator Station may only be mounted in the cockpit.

Ok. So normal buildings can not mount this unit?

Clarification is needed for small ships. Is that fighters and shuttles, or just shuttles?

Might look to increase the price as the specialized computers and coms gear should cost more then the basic unit.
Also as a follow up, a specially designed sensor that works specifically with the sensor station might work out well. As it was made to work with it, it may allow some extra units be tied to it, if all are the special units.

I would also suggest making a command and control vehicle that makes use of this.
Making the mech version only allow a single extra person might be logical. The lack of space in the head area being the reasoning behind this suggestion.

Also, would this assist units targeting something found with the sensors, like a C3, but not so well?
Or use a satellite (or even a normal sensor) to become a battle field spotter for artillery?

As for a future update, it may be an idea to allow it to be fitted into the command consoles and such, but adds weight, cost, crits and such. Maybe even have it glitch on occasion.
Maybe PPC fire causes it as well. Both being hit by, and firing them off.
