Playing the long game is possible – however it all revolves around the Consigliere (the spy master for each Great House, The Star League, Amaris and the SLDF)

When Amaris is in control of the TH – I doubt any organisation would be able to escape the TH – individual people - also is a very slight maybe - any dissenters / evacuees would just disappear one day.

The Great Houses – this is another issue entirely – if the Great Houses Government as well as the large transport corporations were to work in concert I believe such a move is difficult but not impossible.

I also agree choosing your ‘new’ home planet would have to be taken with care – middle of the realm? – Frontier world? (away from any periphery pirates). However for the world you choose it must have … 1. An adequate level of technology to support your business; 2. A high educational system that is already established – as future employees etc.; and 3. Situated upon an adequate trade route – ensure that the ‘product’ gets to market.
Any other minor issues such as suitable land can always be rectified with bribes and/or hard cash.

What I would like to say is if a Government is attempting to fortify their borders – whilst the military are digging in you would hope the government is also evacuating all the most important individuals / businesses to a safer location as a combined effort to protect the nation and its economy – however I will agree that this doesn’t occur all the time.

I would also hope that if you are moving a military industrial plant such a BattleMech factory you would be supplied with adequate forces to protect it – or at the bare minimum be provided with a dependable mercenary contract as your garrison force.

(On the side – this would make for an interesting Mercenary game – First, assist with the evacuation of certain high ranking families as well as their entire factory; Second, escort them safely to their new home world and then third, provide security whilst the factory is being rebuilt and as their garrison force for the next two/three years. There are many instances where others may object to this or look at this as an opportunity to acquire their own factory …. Including by the application of force!)

According to Jihad Hot Spots: Terra, most Hegemony citizens weren't all that upset at Amaris's coup. He seemed a better leader than any of the House lords, and had promised to do away with the House lords dictating what the Hegemony did through manipulation of Richard Cameron (which unbeknownst to the public, is what Amaris had been doing the whole time.) So most companies and people didn't want to leave - generally, only the families of SLDF higher-ups wanted to leave, and most couldn't due to your exact explanation (even the Kerensky's were stuck in Moscow, sure to be captured at a starport if they were ever seen trying to leave the planet.)

Most Hegemony citizens didn't want to "get out Dodge" until the First Succession War broke out, when it became apparent they had no protectors anymore in the form of the SLDF or a functional THAF, and were now pawns to the Houses.

So while your scenario of sneaking a family out works well for the Amaris coup, the factory idea isn't as grand. However, you could transplant this idea to the Clan Invasion, when both noble families and factories were being evacuated en masse from soon-to-be conquered worlds. Canon (Objective Raids, p116) says the Gorton, Kingsley, and Thorpe factory on New Oslo was disassembled and rebuilt on Satalice, and was going to relocate again but the Wolves were moving too fast (and jumping worlds to strike richer targets like Satalice.) You'd need to get the factory out of system before the Clanners arrive, and then work out how to get the family out during occupation.

Wick, this is great

For those within the TH – yes I agree they probably wouldn’t move.

However, what about those individuals / factories just over the border in all the Great Houses – Due to their proximity alone either the SLDF or Amaris’ forces could invade – and with the use of atomics I would most certainly want to get as far away from the TH as possible.

And as for the great Houses – they are all most definitely playing the long game – so their would have been a report written, and entitled something like –The Ramifications for the Inner Sphere in the event a First Lord cannot be determined”.

Surely this would have looked at the Political, Social, Industrial, economic ramifications as well as the change of a war by one or more of the other Great Houses in an attempt to seize the title – and it would have gone on to explain what that war would entail for your state.

Thus armed with this why wouldn’t the state begin preparing for the apocalypse to come – to be for warned is to be for armed? – thus as a Great House Lord would you not order a report established to identify the most important economic, social historical, technological as well as military (strategic and tactical organisations etc) and begin to either move or reinforce their position.

Ie. ship yard – move it to a hidden system during the SLDF Vs. Amaris campaign so that it is safe from a possible future war for the crown?

It just seems a little strange that all the House lords appear to be doing is just increasing their military and little else.

For me looking at possible first / second / third strike targets and taking all necessary actions to either defend / remove the target just makes absolute sense to me at this stage of the game.
