==Overview:==
- The Gunhawk is an AeroSpace Fighter massing 75 Tons and built to serve as a
"Strike Fighter". The role of "Strike Fighter" puts the craft somehwere
between a Close Air Support unit and a Tactical Bomber, with an emphasis on
speed and hitting power.

- Best deployed in hit and run attacks on targets of strategic and tactical
importance, the Gunhawk is nevertheless still quite capable when engaging
enemy AeroSpace Fighters. Heavy armor and powerful engines allow to keep up
with many medium and even some light ASFs, while it's firepower allows it to
tangle with other ASFs of comparable tonnage.

- Due to it's low cost, the Gunhawk was adopted by enterprising Mercenaries
looking for a dedicated ground attack craft that could take care of itself in
a scrap as well as provide tactical and strategic strike capabilities. The
high speed and adequate range were offset by the craft's dependance on
ammunition based weaponry.

- Overall the Gunhawk is an economical design and an excellent one for
quickly deliviering a heavy blow. It has proven to be a stable, reliable and
survivable platform for force projection and rapid response. It is a poor
patrol craft as well as a poor choice for establishing space superiority, but
as a strike unit you can count on the Gunhawk to deliver.

==Capabilities:==
- The Gunhawk is clad in sixteen tons of Standard Grade AeroSpace armor and
powered by an ubiquitous 300 Rated Standard Fusion Engine. Five tons of fuel
provide the vessel with reasonable endurance, although pilots should be
mindful of the craft's powerful engine. Careless use of the Gunhawk's maximum
thrust could leave an unwary pilot stranded.

- The principal armament of the Gunhawk is a nose mounted Class 5 Autocannon
and a Ten Tubed Longe Range Missile launcher mounted in each wing. These
weapons are fed by a single ton of ammunition that, while generally adequate
for the Autocannon, proves to be a woefully small alotment for the LRM
launchers.

- The auxilliary armament of the Gunhawk on the other hand, consists of a
pair of aft mounted Medium Lasers along with a single Four Tubed Short Range
Missile launcher mounted in each wing. Unlike their Long Range counterparts,
the SRM launchers are comparably well fed by their single ton of ammunition,
whilst the Medium Lasers toll is felt only in the craft's heat output.

- Fifteen single strength Heatsinks provide the Gunhawk with enough
dissipation to fire it's forward facing weapons with impunity for as long as
their ammo holds. However, this same array of heatsinks means that in a heated
dogfight the pilot of a Gunhawk must choose between the SRMs and the Medium
Lasers should they also want to make use of their primary weapons and remain
heat neutral.

- Of note is the Gunhawk's trio of Five Ton Bomb Bays, which allowed it to
carry a formidable payload of Bombs, as well as Arrow IV missiles. These bays
would help ensure the Gunhawk's relevance as a Tactical Bomber well into the
31st Century. This same capability also endeared it to aspiring Mercenaries,
where it's ability to provide excellent Close Air Support meshed well with the
combined arms apporach that was common in the mercenary field.

==Variants:==
Gunhawk -X:

- A Davion variant that was primarily fielded during the War of 3039, the -X
replaces the rear firing Medium Lasers with Small Lasers in order to mount an
experimental UAC/P. These experimental versions would also see action during
the Clan Invasion.

Gunhawk -D:

- A standardized version of the -X, this model saw service in 3050 and mounts
a Ultra AC/5 in place of the UAC/P. It also forgoes the aft mounted lasers
completely in favor of a second ton af ammunition in order to maximize the
damage potential of the Ultra Autocannon. It is otherwise identical to the -X
it replaced.

Gunhawk II:

- Another Davion variant, the Gunhawk II was originally put into service as a
field refit of the -D variant to address the jamming issues of the Ultra AC/5.
These refits were designated as -DII, while production models would be
referred to as the Gunhawk II.

- On top of replacing the Ultra Autocannnon with a Lubalin Ballistics
version, the refit also replaced the original Heatsinks with Double Strength
versions, and used the space saved to mount the aft firing Medium Lasers back
in.

- The lighter autocannon used as the replacement allowed the Gunhawk II to
carry a much needed additional ton of LRM ammo. Fuel capacity has also been
upped from five tons to seven in the production version, while the -DIIs
simply add more armor.

Gunhawk III:

- A 3062 refit of the Gunhawk II, the Gunhawk III variant sought to make use
of House Davion's newest technology, the Rotary Autocannon. This model mounts
a single Class 2 Rotary Autocannon in place of the Class 5 Lubalin Ballistics.
It is identical to the Gunhawk II in every other respect.

==Notable Vessels & Crews:==
- The Gunhawk has served aboard plenty of ships in a variety of navies
throughout the history of the Inner Sphere. She has seen a slew of pilots in
this time, some better than others. The aces of House Davion in particular,
however, have been known to favor this craft.

==Deployment==
- The Gunhawk has seen action throughout the Inner Sphere, and has remained a
favorite of House Davion for centuries. This can seen in the many variants
fielded by the Davions throughout the Clan Invasion as well as their continued
service during the FedComm Civil War.

- The navies of the other Great Houses have fielded the Gunhawk as well,
although as the design begun to show it's age, it was relegated to the role of
Tactical Bomber by those powers still employing it. Most Gunhawks not found in
Davion hands post 3060 were found in the service of the Free Worlds League.

- Having the distinction of being a test bed for cutting edge developments in
Autocannon technology and being further distinguished by the good accounting
it gave in the crucible of the Clan Invsaion, the Gunhawk is held in high
regard by House Davion.

- Many of the original Gunhawks would serve well into the 3060s and beyond,
and assignment to one was looked upon favourably. The craft would find it's
way into defense forces, militias and mercenary units, often being seen as the
craft of choice for the honest, the sensible and the chivalrous.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
- The Vulcanhawk was designed by House Davion based off of the venerable
Gunhawk Strike Fighter. It is five tons heavier than the design that it is
based off of and sports more armor, heavier armament and a CASE system. In
many ways, the Vulcanhawk can be considered the final culmination of all the
years of development House Davion put into the venerable Gunhawk. A powerful
craft, the Vulcanhawk looks to become a formidable asset to House Davion in
the FedComm Civil War.

- As of 3062, new Vulcanhawks are rolling off the assembly lines, and while
the design is sure to be exclusive to House Davion for the foreseeable future,
a design for an export model has been considered and drafted. Dubbed the
Vulcanhawk -E, it strips out the CASE and the Rotary Autocannon in favor of a
standard Class 10 Autocannon. A half ton of armor was removed all around to
free up weight for the heavier, but more readily available weapon and it's two
tons of ammo.

==Capabilities:==
- A powerful Class 5 Rotary Autocannon serves as the principal armament of
the Vulcanhawk, while a Ten Tubed Long Range Missile launcher in each wing
compliment it by providing long range firepower. Two tons of ammunition ensure
that both weapons systems are adequately stocked, solving a long standing
problem of the original.

- The wing mounted Four Tubed Short Range Missile launchers and aft facing
Medium Lasers are retained from the original Gunhawk and constitute the
Vulcanhawk's secondary armament. Despite the use of double strength Heatsinks,
the Vulcanhawk retains the Gunhawk's issues of heat buildup if it gets caught
in heavy fighting.

- Eighteen tons of Standard Grade AeroSpace armor offer the Vulcanhawk
increased protection over the Gunhawk, while the inclusion of CASE further
enhances the craft's durability. The speed of the original Gunhawk is retained
by the use of a 320 Rated Fusion Engine, while seven tons of fuel afford the
Vulcanhawk an improvement in range over it's progenitor.

- The Vulcanhawk retains the Gunhawk's trio of five ton Bomb Bays, but
features an additional one ton Bomb Bay as well. This Bomb Bay is specifically
designed to mount a dedicated TAG unit, and allows the Vulcanhawk to make
better use of it's ordinance by freeing up room in the other bays. The
Vulcanhawk's target tracking system can interface with a TAG unit mounted
here, allowing it function as if it was mounted in the nose in addition to
it's standard functionality.

==Variants:==
Vulxcanhawk -E:

- Seeing the need to bolster the coffers in this time of uncertainy, an
export model intended to be sold either during or after the conclusion of the
FedComm Civil War was developed alongside the original Vulcanhawk. Dubbed the
Vulcanhawk -E, it is in many ways every bit as capable as the design it was
knocked off from.

- This variant fields a standard Class 10 Autocannon in place of the more
advanced Class 5 Rotary version. Ammunition alotment remains the same, but the
CASE and a half of a ton of armor were sacrificied to not only make room for
the larger gun, but also to reduce the variant's dependance on more advanced
technologies and lower the overall cost.

The IIC variant is there for those who like to play with or against the Clans, as such it's not too heavily fluffed. It's slated as a 2900-era design and may or may not have the bomb bays as per your desire. I have fluffed it as a planetary defense craft, but feel free to use it how you wish and fluff it as best pleases you.

EDIT: I have fixed the typos, both in the post and the .txts enclosed in the .zip. The .zip file now includes the HeavyMetal Aero files for the ships as well. Cheers!
