Overview: After the fall of Hoff, secret negotiations to continue limited production of the prototype Freezers lead to Kincaid Defiance Industries contracts with New Avalon. On of the conditions of these contracts was permission to use the freezer technology in their own research and internal company development.
KDI played fast and loose with this condition, they felt along with improvements in manufacturing and facility maintenance, that the contract allowed use in of the technology on military units directly attached to the defense of KDI property and combat prototyping. Because of this, Kincaid ordered a few Griffin 1S chassis for modification, these were designated GRF-1SK. These custom Griffins were never resold, instead they were part of KDI's private security forces.
Capabilities: KDI immediately hired private mech techs to assist with the removal of external heatsinks and modification of the ammo feed for the delta dart lrm launcher. They ordered several additional launchers as spares, but broke them down for the modification of the onboard launchers. They made managed to get all the feed mechanisms and targeting electronics squeezed into a slightly oversized casing. This allowed them to split the missile tubes of the casing into two faster loading systems. It required moving the actual ammunition bin directly under the modified launcher pair though.
Three of the prototype freezers were installed as replacements for external standard heatsinks. This brought the weight down enough to manage the combined launcher pair and actually increased overall thermal dissipation by just over six percent.
Battle History: The 1SKs KDI modified did not participate in the battle where the traitor Kinkcaid escaped LIC forces. However one was recovered intact and other mid modification after the battle. They were transfered back to Defiance Industries for study and eventually added to DSPF inventory. It's not known if the partial units were completed, but there's video evidence of the completed SK in live fire testing vs a final prototype of the 1DS. The video showed the modified pair of launchers was unreliable after several shots, which is the probable reason for Defiance never built similar units.

Neat. I like the idea of the prototype freezers giving the Griffin back its typical LRM-10 (or close to it.) Had it been used in battle, a wily pilot could have duped his opponent into thinking he was a GRF-1N by firing both LRMs, tricking the enemy into closing to point blank to get under the PPC and LRM range only to find out that not only did he have the lasers instead but the heat dissipation to use them for several turns. And the double heat sinks give a bit better critical hit protection to the ammo bin in event of an armor breach.
Does the GRF-1S use Delta Dart 5s? That's a FWL and Taurian model. I think it would use a Coventry Five-Tube instead (same type Defiance imports for the Patton and Rommel tanks.) I checked TRO:3025 and TRO:SW but neither gives the model. Makes most sense to be a Lyran-produced LRM though.

It might be the Coventry, unfortunately I couldn't find it either, and original 1N 10 is a delta.

Yeah but the GRF-1N TRO is giving details for a Hegemony model launcher. Either Defiance was making that model up to the point they changed line(s) over to GRF-1S, was importing it from another factory (probably not from the FWL), or using a different model launcher. The fact they import LRM systems from Coventry in 3054 (Objective Raids) for the Patton and Rommel (Coventry Five-Tube LRM5s) and for the Archer and Zeus (Coventry Star Fire LRM15s) provides some pretty strong evidence that they aren't making any LRM systems at Defiance during late Third Succession War up to Clan Invasion eras, either Delta models or another brand.
Only reason I brought this up is if they were having such a problem with jamming, would they try a different model of launcher? Looked it what was likely available to them and found out Delta probably isn't the brand they would have used in the first place since its only made in FWL and Concordat (as of 3054.) And if Deltas were jamming then they surely would have tried Coventry models before giving up on it because its a nice upgrade over the -1S. In fact, I'd take something similar as a Clan Invasion field refit (-2S?) using production model DHSs, keeping the ammo in the right torso and losing one of the heat sinks to use a single LRM10 if the jamming problem couldn't ever be solved. (Maybe not as robust with ammo in the left or two smaller launchers, but a simpler refit for field techs.)
All the fluff and details are great, I just think changing it from Delta Darts to Coventry Five-Tubes closes a bit of a logic gap in the spec.

I used the idea that Kincaid didn't have time for it, and proper Defiance Industries just didn't see the point as a reason for it being a one off that never saw production. But yes, the C 5-T will be put in the correction.
