I have figured out that the unit aim running is a scout recon sort of like a modern day sf scout recon unit. it has a lance of 4 light scout mechs would this also work like primarily a lance and the ground sf work independently or would the unit work all in one group type of deal? eventually the group once i get to know the rules of a total warfare, time of war, and battle mech better while running it they will make their own merc group I will be running mostly with time a of war detailed on personal combat and rp. any input would be greatly appreciated.

Special forces are typically infantry. There's only so much that can be done in mechs, though those with hands (or winches/hoists) make effective raiders. Practically speaking, no one is marching up to an objective in a mech then getting out of cockpit to perform a task before getting back in to march away. It happens in novels, but its not an efficient strategy.

It sounds like your light lance would be backed by several platoons, if not a full company, of infantry. They would work together to achieve the goal, but would have entirely separate objectives. The mechs, being light, would probably be used to probe defenses and/or try to lure any defenders away, making life easier for the infantry to move forward and complete their objective(s) with lighter resistance. Ideally, different infantry platoons would be skilled in different aspects: some in anti-mech or anti-tank combat, some in espionage, some in demolition, etc. While the tabletop board game doesn't make much distinction in infantry skillsets, the RPGs (like Time of War) allow for greater specialty to keep things interesting.

A light mech lance and infantry alone can't really stand up to a stiff resistance though, so it would help if your group had some swift medium or heavy tanks to provide some extra firepower in case the mechs can't lure the defenders away. Something like the Maxim hover tank would be ideal: its fast and provides a reasonable punch to complement the light mech lance, but also serves as an APC to support the infantry troops. Special forces would also typically make use of a transport VTOL or two as well (something like a Kestrel or Marten) though they aren't as much use in a fight.
