Debuting at 1,098,750 (fusion), 891,750 (fuel cell), or 722,500 (I.C.E.) the Plumbata is an inexpensive light strike tank designed specifically to flank heavier, slower units and threaten them with a strong volley of turreted laser fire at an enemies back. All three versions use targeting computers for this purpose; a decent gunner can even kill an assault-class mech with a full laser volley successfully aimed at the rear center torso. (two or three lasers would deplete the rear armor, the rest would get crits.)
The fusion version is my favorite as it can use the 10 free heat sinks for two ER medium lasers, with the remaining three being Medium Chemical Lasers. Fuel-cell and ICE version both have five Medium Chemical Lasers, still nothing to sniff at.
Tactical doctrine would be to use this like ancient armies would use their darts, or 'plumbata', throwing them at the enemy to harm and distract right before the shields crash together. The Plumbata drives at speed to an enemies rear arc just as the enemy has made contact with the main line, forcing it to either turn its back to the main force or ignore the Plumbata's backshot, at its peril.

This makes me happy. Not because I suggested it, but because it demonstrates Ice Hellion-sensibilities toward lighter, faster craft to do the same job heavier designs are meant to do. Yes it is basically half the weapons and a little less than half the armor, but check out that cost: a military can have roughly four Plumbatas for a single Eviscerator. And each of them 20% faster than the original. It is exactly the kind of vehicle suited for Ice Hellion second line galaxies and Flurries. Other militaries would be silly not to incorporate them as well with the speed and punch this has. (<rant>Which of course means TPTB will undoubtedly steal this and give it to Dark Age Clan Snow Raven.</rant>)
