The formation of the Star League was not based upon principles of lofty idealism … they were based upon the basest of human emotions – the desire for power …

This can be demonstrated by why the Free Worlds League agreeing to become a member of the Star League …

Before the formation of the Star League the Captain-Generalcy was a purely military post, appointed by the Free Worlds parliament in times of crisis to prosecute war or mobilize a defence.

During their meeting on New Delos between Ian Cameron and Albert Marik the desire to see humanity unified under a single government and end the Age of War was just a means to an end … in betraying Andurien Worlds to House Liao, an act which required the Free Worlds League Parliament’s agreement, such an act guaranteed the Capellan Confederation’s membership into the Star League … and in exchange this secured Albert (and only his offspring successors) exclusive right to the Free Worlds Leagues’ seat on the Star League Council (a point I wonder they were truly aware of and its lasting repercussions?)…. and with the formation of the Star League, the Councils office included diplomatic responsibilities and in so doing the Marik Family literally performed a bloodless Coup over the Free Worlds Parliament by becoming the first amongst equals – and as such first dictator over the Free Worlds due to the position on the Star League Council …

and as for Ian Cameron he betrayed everyone and became First Dictator over the Star League … as I believe the original agreement was for a round table – all would be equal councillors and the position of First Lord would never have existed.

As This was their overall plan – not to stop and era of war – but to use people’s desire for peace and power to become dictators over their respective realms …

As from the point of legality within the Free Worlds Resolution 288 will not be passed until 19 December 2784 in order to ensure the Free Worlds League Marik succession law.

It is therefore my belief that beneath the Free Worlds Parliament veneer there should exist a cabal dedicated to returning democracy to the League with the removal of the Marik Captain-General position …

The Reformation War ( 2767 - 2775)

Early March 2767
In the early days following Amaris’ Coup, where his forces initiated their war against the excesses of the Star League. Captain General Kenyon Marik decided to annex the now Amaris Empire (nee Terran Hegemony) stategically important world of Chertan due to its location as well as its vast amounts of minerals and metal resources – despite being water poor.

The FWL fleet attempted a simple planetary invasion strategy, however, rather than compbining the fleets naval vesels the FWL Admeral divided then into three separate groups. The SLDF Admiral saw through the simple strategy immediately, ordering his fleet to advance toward one of the fleets, eliminating the FWL numerical advantage as he was able to engage one fleet at at time – annihilating two of the FWL fleets before the third was able to strategically withdraw after sustaining heavy damage.

In a subsequesnt battle the SLDF Admiral was forced to flee Amaris forces due to the damage it received by the attacking FWL Navy.

Declaring that the SLDF attacked a humanitarian effort (rather than the humiliating defeat it was), due to his personal vendetta against Aleksandr Kerensky, Kenyon used the incident as a pretext for refusing to allow the SLDF use the Free Worlds systems as staging grounds for the oncoming war.

Kenyon then decided to use those who lost their lives during the Battle of Chertan as marters to peace, thus undercutting the Morgana Peace Movement – and engrandize his own position amongst the people – he decided to hold a testimonial in their honour.
.
Filled with frief and anger, Philippa Edwards publically confronts Captain Gerneral Kenyon Marik’s at a speech commemorating the war dead. She demanded to know where he was when her fiance, and so many of his comrades, were slaughtered by Kerensky’s SLDF.

After being removed from the hall by security, Philippa was assaulted by the Patriotic Marik Corps (or PMC), who sought to assassinate her for sedition against the government. Sophia Scarlet, having seen Jessica’s outburst, correctly guessed that her life would be in danger and managed to rescue her.

Spiriting Philippa (her childhood friend) to her estate, Sophia thought she would be safe there, though it too soon came under assault by the PMC. Sophia’s security detail, however, managed to successfully drive off the PMC.

Providing sanctuary Sophia then returned with Philippa to Oriente, there Jessica joined Morganna’s Political “Peace” Party, and began directly working toward ending the excesses of the Nobility.

In December 2767, with the initiation of Amaris’ War against the excesses of the Star League less than a year old, Oriente was to hold a special election for a parlemtary seat. Jessica was a key campaign official in Hannah William’s candidacy. Unfortunately William was murdered by the PMC. This attack, however, had the unintended consequence of singing public support away from Marik’s candidate, Raymond Melendez, back to the Peace Party. With William dead, Jessica took his place and was elected to parliament in a landslide.

During her victory celebrations, at a park in the capital city. She was shot and killed when the Marik military police opened fire on the revalers, killing nearly 20,000 civilians.

The officer in charge of the murder a noble, and Marik’s candidate, Raymond Melendez, was subsequently exhonerated and appointed to parliament following Jessica’s ‘retirement’ from the electorial college.

The murder of Philippa Edards and the exhoneration and promotion of Raymond Melendez became a flashpoint throughout the League. Fearing that Philippa’s murder would initare purges, as was the case during Elise Marik
– many realized the time of the neo-feaudalistic system was over – This Reformation War was initiated, to curtail the political machinations between Captain-General Marik’s Royalists and therby returning Parliament to the people to ensure the League’s future governance and personal freedom.

Military Actions

At the outset of the conflict, most army uits remeined neutral, however, the navy was rife with mutiny as one warship after another overthrough their Marik masters – choosing to align with new resistance.

The first major issue of the Civil War was in January 2768, when rebel forces under the command of Field-Marshal Sophia Scarlet, her 1st Vanguard RCT struck at Regulus whist the remining Oriente Military forces struck throughout the Principality of Regulus and the Regulan Hussars garrisoned there …

This was quickly followed throughout the League, once more, military defense forces engaged one another in desperate battles to turn the direction of the League ….

In an attempt to understand primary / secondary targets for a Civil War within the FWL – circa 2765 approx. I started with an X-cell sheet and the information provided upon Sarna.

Generate a list of all units – Names – World – (R/R/R) etc – and unit type Assault, Heavy Medium. Light – Tactics

Print off a copy of the FWL map for this time period.

Red – Capt.-Gen.
Green – Renegade forces
Blue – League Units – who will probably attempt to sit out the civil war to protect the borders / people.

Information found …

1. Capt-Gen Marik was more concerned with what was his … the TH and flanking attacks by either the CC or the LC as to those worlds surrounding the planet Marik.
2. Duchy of Oriente – he diced to put six units in – to keep them under control
3. Andurien – not only has all previously Marik Cap-Gens made paupers of the Duke but has also restricted the number of forces available – easy prey for the CC …
4. The number of units assigned to that anti-spin along the periphery boarder from the Moc to the RRR is in a 2 to 1 ratio in favour of protecting the Free Worlds, form unknown forces attacking through the deep periphery than coming through the LC – to such a level that if the LC ever got serious in all reality they could have easily taken about 1/3 to ½ of the entire FWL before the FWL knew what was happening!

Thus to fix the LC border I will now need to take a large number of forces from the periphery boarder and place them against the LC boarder to fix this issue ….

Also the world Camlann and the case Camlann V FWL, HG Duke of Regulus et al …. If the world has gained its independence from Regulus then why is the border in the wrong spot and also why is there no boarder around this planet to indicate it is on its own …. Or would that just get ridiculous as the majority of the worlds would have to have a boarder around them also…?

Also how do you go from a court case that says you can be separate from the Regulas block to being separate from the entire FWL in the future ? sorry but this does not track unless Camlann was also separate from the FWL from 2683 onwards and was not a part of the FWL from that point onward?

Remember case law is written in stone – it must be an exact match and meet all precursor clauses as per the original case to be considered valid – of which they do not!

https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Free_Worlds_Defense_Industries#Andurien_AeroTech

“Was formed in October 2562” merger between Andurien Aero Tech and Gibson Federated Battlemechs a subsidiary of Free Worlds Defence Industries”

Manufacturing
Aerospace fighters ….
Stingray … production year 2762
Riever … production year 2815
Deathstalker … production year 2744
Dropship
Intruder … production year 2655

However … 2556

Third Andurien War ends – Andurien et al has been ceded to the CC …

(suggest all the worlds ceded were – El Giza, Mosiro, Kalmar, Andurien, Lopez, Ryerson)

So can someone explain why a FWL military facility was established upon a CC world in 2562? And what were they manufacturing at this time?

The manufacturing facilities, therefore, are not on Andurien they are on Kanata … the new Capitol world?

And in 2611 – during the star league era … how can Lopez belong to the FWL as when you look at the Map at the end of SL Lopez is clearly within the CC

https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Lopez

so how did the Free Worlds Defense Industries establish a new production development installation on this world?
Nl-43 Battle Taxi
Conventional fighter: Angel Light Strike Fighter … introduced 2643
Aerospace Fighters
Singray … production year 2762
Riever … production year 2815

Suggest another world not under CC control at that time?

There are several worlds in the IS that are in enemy territory. Instead of trying to make the borders all squiggly, or leave holes in the map, they just put it in the most controlled nations area. It could have been done thru treaty, such as a peace or cease fire treaty done between the FWL and CC.
The map of New Avalon after the DC invaded, that area is in FS space, but is surrounded by the FS, making it an 'island' in FS space. The same thing could be said for Wolcott during the clan invasion.

Granted, it does sound a bit off to build factories in a situation like this, but without knowing the history of that area, it may well have been the end point of a 'thumb' into CC space when they did it, then lost the other worlds. It could have been a co-op between the two.

It might also have been part of an agreement with the Star League, to help the CC economy, with the FWL controlling the factories.

Third Andurien War (2551-56)

https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Third_Andurien_War

… negotiations under the mediation of Ian Cameron ended the war.

The Andurien Peace Treaty gave Andurien to the Capellan Confederation. In return for this, Terence Liao signed the Treaty of Geneva, the first treaty which would pave the way to the constitution of the Star League. In return for the concessions made in the Andurien Peace Treaty, the Treaty of Geneva guaranteed House Marik the right to the seat of the Free Worlds League at the later Star League High Council.

(and in so doing House Marik performed a Coup upon Parliament and became first amongst equals ….effectively promoting their house to Dictator in Perpetua …)

https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Duchy_of_Andurien

Terrence Liao invaded Andurien again in 2551. Although militarily unsuccessful, Albert Marik conceded the Andurien worlds in exchange for Terrence's agreement to join the Star League.

ie … there is no thumb … these world have been Ceded (transferred ownership) to the CC … they are in no way anymore part of the FWL as from 2556 ….

Thus building a facility on 2562 and 2611 means that two FWL military contractors took it upon themselves to build two military production facilities within the CC and not the FWL.

Free Worlds Defense Industries

https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Free_Worlds_Defense_Industries#Andurien_AeroTech

responsible for most of the FWLM Aerospace production ….

Thus making this entirely dubious …. The only rational belief is that to placate the Duke of Andurien for loosing his world and being forced to relocate to backwater world (a feat that was achieved by his daughter no less) in order to assist with their economic recovery the Captain General assisted with the establishment of this upon the new Capitol world of Kanata.

Someone really dropped the ball on this one!

And yet this is still not the most funniest one I have found to date … there is a certain FWL world close to the periphery that is so mountainous that virtually all land vehicles cannot operate on the world … so what did someone do? Yes they decided to build the Galleon Maxwell tank on the world plus a Thumper Artillery - both wheeled vehicles – yes a Galleon Tank in now wheeled not tracked …

https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Maxwell_Planetary_Defense_Consortium

https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Maxwell

“The mostly mountainous terrain makes farming the few flat areas critically important, and it also makes most land vehicles useless.”

DOD procurement division is as efficient as always – find the worst place to build a vehicle and declare that the perfect place to build it …. oxymoron?

My version of a Free Worlds League ….

The FWL can be considered to be originally a Parliamentary Westminster system whereby individual states joined together for economic and security concerns– the Captain-General position (protector of the realm was an on again / off again system) was supposed to be imposed only for short periods of time and only for issues that concerned all the member states – over time though the most influential and wealthiest family came so see it as belonging to them and them alone (and would go to any lengths to ensure it remained in the family – including sabotage / bribery / murder)

So over time society within the FWL slowly shifted …. and polarized when the Marik’s obtained the sole FWL seat on the Star League Council – as a consequence, becoming the first family / dictator of the FWL … a situation which can be seen to bring a violent response (Caesar when he became dictator for life in Rome for example … or when the position of Pope was for sale during the renaissance) …. Though this is only half the problem - to get this position the Marik’s sold out one of the most prominent FWL family, by giving away a vast portion of their realm for their own personal gain and using this Dukes daughter to force the issue …

Horrified all states within the FWL became “Italian city states during the Renaissance”

When you think ‘political intrigue’ you may not consider the FWL – however in my opinion the FWL should be considered the most pre-eminent realm for political / family intrigue where cronyism / corruption / assassination / family and realm mean more than the League … where the CC children would be reading Sun Tzu the FWL children would be reading Machiavelli’s – The Prince.

Over time this became the singular system within the FWL due to the Star League restricting each houses military …. In response the FWL allowed each ‘city state’ to build their own (Provincial units) … whereas the League’s military was supposed to be for the League each “city state” ruler would be working behind the scenes to subvert these Leagues units for their “city state” whilst Marik would be attempting to make them solely answerable to them…

Also if one of these states has ties to the DC – may I suggest that a spirt cat family has emigrated to the FWL (permanently)and will be used as their assassins in the shadows … for the interest of their family and the interest of the Dragon!

So consider the FWL to be a hot bed of political intrigue – assassinations are rife – where money and political power -and the title of MP - is the driving concern for many … and where Family and city state means more as to their identity than that of belonging to the League …

This has also created a lack of cohesion within the FWLM – each city state has their own and only use it for their own purposes within their own border or form political alliances with stronger city states …
– whist the League units must fill the gaps …

Though one situation is quite clear … The Duchy of Andurien considers the Marik family to be the root of all evil within the FWL, as such will do whatever it takes to remove them from power when the situation allows …
Get thee to Coventry … Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious by this daughter of Tharkad … Our army shall march through. Well to New Avalon tonight.
