Browsing random images, I found this Quad but I think it needs flatter feet. Became inspired for this mech.

==Overview:==
The OTDR-0OX Outrider was the brainchild of Dr. Klaus Amsel, an engineer for
Krupp Armament Works. In 2755, Dr. Amsel convinced his company to redefine
what a quad mech should be and the project was designed, tested, and studied
to perfect the mech before it was even built. The design lingered on the
drawing board for over 10 years, consistently revamped with one concept to be
reverted back to the original only to have the suggestion become the
standard. This continued and the design was nearly dropped, until Dr. Amsel
managed to convince the board of investors to continue in the testing phase
with a smaller research team and fewer ideas to be inputted.

The OTDR-00X is a far departure from previous four legged mech designs. The
Outrider has a radically new chassis where the upper body sits on a base;
borrowing a wide spider like stance of the Scorpion and the entire upper torso
rotates like the main weapons of the Goliath. This upper body with turret
like action greatly intrigued the Star League, but the long time in the design
phase caused the interest to wane. It wasn't until five years before the
Amaris Civil War that the mech was put into a limited production run for a
thorough testing of its capabilities. With less than the a hundred units
built at a rate of 20 a year, that half decade resulted in the mech seeing
action on both sides of the opposing forces and many differing battle
scenarios.

The final summary of the mech was it had an outstanding performance but over
engineered because of custom built actuators for the legs and a weak
gyroscope creating far more problems than the mech was built to address, the
design was buried in the vaults of Krupp Armaments until it was found
centuries later. The blue prints were sold to Corean Enterprises which
considered it unprofitable to build, but would later influence the Tarantula
and its spider like chassis.

==Capabilities:==
At 65 tons, the OTDR-OOX is a heavy mech with reputation that outshines that
of the Scorpion and Goliath in performance, but is inferior technological
standards regulated it to last place. It was designed with a different
mission role, that of long range support and the ability to stay on the
outskirts of attacking formations in any kind of terrain.

The original specifications for fresh off the factory line had it carrying a
pair of AC/2 in the right torso with a staggering two tons of ammunition.
Backing up the long range of the cannons is an LRM-10 and an SRM-6 for self
defense. Rounding out the arsenal is a pair of medium lasers as back up
weapons and a single small laser for defense against infantry or light
vehicles. Carrying enough armor to shrug off even the biggest of weapons, it
could fire from stand off distance even in swamps that would slow down bipedal
mechs as the wider stance of the legs gave it less ground pressure. Able to
keep pace with heavy mechs or even the slowest of mediums; it could fill a
variety of missions beyond its intended role.

The greatest weakness of the Outrider was the leg actuators themselves, they
were simple to build but because of their design they had to be replaced often
resulting in long downtime until they could order new parts shipped from
Terra. Techs quickly learned that many elbow actuators of other heavy
battlemechs could be altered and slight re-coding of the gyroscope to create a
new gait that didn't shake the pilot around.

==Battle History:==
The Outrider participated on both sides of the greatest conflict in human
history. In one battle, three Outriders of the Star League forces managed to
drive off a medium company of Amaris forces which struggled to close the
distance in a swamp. Another conflict had a single Outrider harassing a pair
of assault mechs, slowing down their advance and delaying them until air
support could be called in.

As only a hundred units were built before Krupp could finalize the assembly
line for mass production, over 80% were destroyed on Terra during the closing
battles of the war. A dozen ended up spread through out the Inner Sphere,
ending up a rusting hulk left on many planets from the hard fighting during the
Succession Wars. Six were taken by Kerensky on the Exodus, but where
completely annihilated during the battles to retake the Pentagon Worlds. The
remaining two fought as part of many mercenary companies and passed down
though the years by a family who managed to keep them in running order for
over 200 years before one had to be salvaged to keep the other running.

==Variants:==
The OTDR-0AX version was a secondary configuration, testing the use of energy
weapons. In place of the dual AC/2, it carried a single PPC and a single
large laser as its main guns. The missile systems are downgraded, an LRM-5
and SRM-2. For infantry defense, the small laser is replaced with a machine
gun. Excess weight was devoted to more heatsinks, bringing it up to a total
of 17.

A finalized version, the OTDR-01X was built on the last half dozen mechs just
months before the Amaris war started. The primary weapon is up gunned to an
AC/10 with two tons of ammo in place of the smaller pair of weapons. An LRM-5
gives some indirect fire support out to 600 meters, for short range it uses an
SRM-4. Both missile systems are supplied with one ton of ammo each. As back
up weapons, it carries two medium lasers and two machine guns for infantry
defense. Arguably among the MechWarrior's who survived piloting the OTDR-01x,
they all agreed it was the best weapons load out.

An updated version of the -01X, the -02X is armed similarly but updated with
losttech from the Star League. The AC/10 changed to an LB10-X, a simple
conversion that fit inside the housing structure of the original. The LRM-5
is kept as is, with an Artemis-IV to increase the accuracy. The SRM-2 is
updated to a Streak-2, able to conserve ammo until the target lock is certain.
A pair of medium pulse lasers replace the standard lasers, a reduction in
range traded for increased damage and accuracy. One machine gun remains in
the center torso, with the other replaced by an anti-missile system which can
be used for defense against infantry when put into manual mode but with the
limited ammo it lasts no more then 7 seconds. Ten double heat sinks keep the
mech cool in battle and 12.5 tons of ferro-fibrous amour provide more than
adequate protection against return fire.

==Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:==
John "Badluck" Fletcher, a mechwarrior with 30 years of experience since first
clumsily piloting his father's mech at the age of 13. John pilots the only
remaining OTDR-01X Outrider in the Inner Sphere, nicknamed "Hardluck" for the
rough life the mech endured over the centuries and still able to function.
Having fought during the 4th Succession War and through the War of 3039, he
retired to his home planet and assumed command of the local militia.

Having just upgraded the OTDR-01X to the OTDR-02X variation with his own
personal funds, John fought valiantly to protect his troops from a pair of
Elemental points in a duel after they raided the planet. The Elementals having
the advantage of swarming a four legged mech unable to fight back as it lacked
hands, were at a disadvantage when they could not close the distance to
"Hardluck" as John drove it backwards in the open plains near the capital.
Pelting the Elementals with autocannon pellets and LRMs at long range than
letting them gain ground than attack them with the pulse lasers and streak
missiles, John prolonged the battle for over an hour before running out of
ammo. Inflicting 7 casualties out of 10 elementals, the remaining 3 managed
to climb up the mech after the last remaining SRM salvo from the Elemental
missile packs managed to disable two legs. Hardluck crashed to the ground,
the Elementals opened up the cockpit and dispatched John. Recognizing his
piloting abilities and the disadvantage vs an Elemental, the Clan forces
withdrew shortly after.

A quad without taking advantage of its ability to mount a 11-crit 360 degree rotation turret is just too limited, what with 12 fewer available crits. And with the advent of Tripods they are basically obsolete. Otherwise, nothing really wrong with the designs...

On the modern version you could slightly ameliorate the loss of crit space with a small cockpit and compact gyro. And you definitely have enough heat sinking ability to spare to make the Medium Pulses into X Pulses.

It doesn't even make it to the era of tripods, turrets, compacts, and extended weapons. its just a fluff piece that dies out with the clan era, about when BT made sense before it went weird after the jihad.

How does a tripod even walk? Its going to be slower than a 2/3 assault as it balances on 2 legs while one moves forward or the entire bottom half rotates slowly like a dradle as each step takes one forward and the other 2 each slowly rotate in place like a clock. And the light version, goes over 134km an hour...it would have the gate of a 3 legged dog that bounces up and down throwing the pilot around when running, it would handle worse than the fluff lore of the Scorpion.
