“If the events depicted here bear a resemblance to anything you know, or the people appearing here bear a likeness to anyone you know, it is but a fluke of history, and an inevitability.”
Legend of the Galactic Heroes Die Neue These Anime – Episode 1

Preface
A desire for universal peace led to Universal intensification of violence and war – few could understand the paradox at the time.

The Star League was originally established as a self-policing interstellar council formed, initially as a trade alliance, to maintain interstellar peace and security – develop friendly relations among the Great Houses and Periphery States to achieve international cooperation – harmonizing their actions with an aim to remove conflict.

<In reality, due to the incompetence of the First Lords, whose self-interest hedonistic attitude toward the Inner Sphere – whist changing the SLDF from a police force to that of a vast military, armada, and military industrial complex used to enforce the will of the First Lord over the Great Houses – in so doing becoming First among equals – the use of intimidation, force and war to turn the Great Houses and Periphery States into vassal states of the Great Houses of the Inner Sphere and the Hegemony.>

The Chevalier
The establishment of what would be known as the Chevalier is tied together with that of the Coup d’état by Commanding General Aleksandr Kerensky, the pantomime General, and the subsequent betrayal by the Great Houses.

Events prior to the Kerensky’ Coup d’état.

2650
Council Edict of 2650 or Cameron Act of 2650
Star League’s First Lord Michael Cameron II limits the size of all Great House, Periphery and private military forces they are allowed to muster. The SLDF continues to muster new units at a rapid rate …

<Response – the secret manufacture of armaments / mustering new units upon hidden worlds and space stations.>

2690
First Lord Michael Cameron retires – Jonathan Cameron, his eldest son is designated as his heir.
First Lord Jonathan Cameron engages in a massive build-up of the SLDF, as his mental condition deteriorates due to an ever-deepening paranoia regarding the Star League’s fall …

2700
Stefan Amaris (age 15 - dual citizenship – RWR and TH) is conscripted into the SLDF, as part of the quota system.
Family connections enables him to attend the War Academy of Mars - there he befriends his lifelong companion Marlene Leroy (graduating Naval Officer Cadet) – and his ‘Teacher’ and surrogate father figure General Ikolor Fredasa.

2705
Lieutenant Stefan Amaris graduates as a SLDF Army BattleMech Officer.

2707
Commanding General of the SLDF David Peterson dies in a DropShip accident.
First Lord Jonathan Cameron appoints Ikolor Fredasa as the new Commanding General of the SLDF.

<Nt – General Ikolor Fredasa – A thoughtful and intelligent Commander whose personal loyalty was dedicated to the League as a whole and ideals of the Star League, rather than to the First Lord – His belief is that the SLDF mandate is that of protecting and maintaining the peace between Star League Members.>
Get thee to Coventry … Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious by this daughter of Tharkad … Our army shall march through. Well to New Avalon tonight.

Council Directive 41
Star League’s First Lord Jonathan Cameron, at the suggestion of key Hegemony individuals, declare independence for the four Periphery states, eliminating restrictions placed on them following their conquest during the Reunification War – Periphery Administrators are removed.

<Response – With the removal of their Periphery Administrators the three smaller states are exploited by key Hegemony corporations. Resentment and hatred towards the Star League intensify – organized successionist movements within all periphery states establish lines of communication with each other.>

2725
Still plagued by prophetic visions of Terra burning, Jonathan’s mental instability triggers a crisis within the Star League as he refuses to intercede in the War of Davion Succession …

The War of Davion Succession – also known as the Second Hidden War – A full scale war fought between House Kurita and House Davion over the question of succession to the throne of First Prince of the Federated Suns.

A high-ranking delegation from the SLDF led by Commanding General Ikolor Fredasa visits Mother Jocasta in an-attempt to convince her to ‘assist’ Jonathan in his rule of the Star League as she is the only person who can sway his growing paranoia – as such she becomes the de facto leader of the Star League.

Still the SLDF are refuses to intervene by the First Lord …

2729
Impatience with the First Lord’s refusal to intervene is growing within the Court of the Star League.
With Commanding General Ikolor Fredasa at the head … in direct opposition to the First Lord’s orders Ikolor Fredasa intervenes with the launch of Operation Smother, which quickly ends the war …

Where a seasoned Major Stefan Amaris led elements of the 39th Royal BattleMech Division’s, 392nd Royal BattleMech Brigade, against Camp Getty Military Base on the Stygian Shoals (an island located off the south coast of Little Florida Island – measuring sixty kilometres long and sixteen wide).
A young Captain Aleksandr Kerensky, at the same time, was with the forces of the 160th Division on Royal ….

In victory rather than thanking Ikolor - First Lord Jonathan first censures both sides the Federated Suns and the Draconis Combine, though the Draconis Combine received the worst – pre-war borders were restored and Kurita’s claim to the Davion throne was denied to them forever. Though the brunt of his condemnation was for Commanding General Ikolor Fredasa – Where an implication of cowardice was levelled against him and “that he had not shown the necessary ‘moral courage’ on an issue of confidence in me.”
Refusing to meekly accept such a stain on his honour Commanding General Ikolor Fredasa publicly rebuked the First Lord for his lack of action due to mental instability demonstrated to all House Lords and the SLDF that he was unfit for the position of First Lord … Publicly humiliated, and enraged First Lord Jonathan Cameron ordered vengeance upon HIS vassal Commander …

Jocasta, as de facto ruler of the Star League, recognised the political danger Ikolor represented and prior to dispatching General Rebecca Retldral she showed her Jonathan’s letters predicting the destruction of the League. These ‘prophetic warnings’ greatly disturbed her …

November 11th 2729
Commanding General Ikolor Fredasa was arrested, tried (by a sham of a court), and hanged for treason – all on the same day! Fredasa protested that as a military officer he had a right to death by firing squad, a claim Fetladral ignored.

<Response – The statements and actions of Fredasa marked a major fracture in the cult of personality that House Cameron had held over the SLDF; following Fredasa’s execution, Officers in the SLDF began to fall into two camps – those who began to adjust their thinking and actions to fall more in line with what was ‘best for the League’, and those that believed the desires of the First Lord were absolute.>

<Response - Major Stefan Amaris became member of a plot to end the post of a hereditary First Lord through returning the Star League back to the people.>
Get thee to Coventry … Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious by this daughter of Tharkad … Our army shall march through. Well to New Avalon tonight.

2729
General Rebecca Fetladral is appointed to Commanding General of the Star League Defence Force.

<Response – Everyone associated with the former Commanding General Ikolor Fredasa are posted to insignificant postings … in order to keep a watchful eye on them. Colonel Stefan Amaris is posted back to the Rim Worlds Republic; whilst a newly minted Vice Admiral Marlene Leroy is posted to Logistics – taking command of a merchantman Fleet. A young Captain Aleksandr Kerensky, however, is posted to Fetladral’s Staff.>

2730
Commanding General Rebecca Fetladral initiates Operation: GIBRALTAR – As a response to Jonathan’s prophetic visions of Terra burning, Rebecca orders the Star League Engineering teams throughout the Inner Sphere to engage in clandestine operations to construct hidden facilities throughout the Inner Sphere: leveling mountains, draining lakes, building islands in the middle of oceans, and camouflaging their work when construction was complete.

2736-37
Great Houses’ Security Investigation Teams begin documenting SLDF Engineers constructing hidden facilities.

<Response – The Great House’s Hidden Army and Navy doctrines are intensified – as many House Lords now believe War is inevitable between themselves and the Star League to achieve freedom once more.>

2738 - January
Winter Council Lord’s Meeting – closed session – All Council Lords are in attendance together with Mother Jocasta (de facto co-ruler of the Star League) and Commanding General Rebecca Fetladral. There they provide proof as to the SLDF Border Guards Agreement Treaty Violations – The establishment of multiple hidden military facilities throughout their realms space.
They demand every hidden ‘Sword of Damascus’ facility to be turned over to their respective House Military. Mother Jocasta refuses citing Jonathan’s mental instability – Commanding General Rebecca Fetladral takes the blame and stating she will stand down after a period of transference to her replacement (Mid-March, 2738). Mother Jocasta, however, refuses to hand over these hidden facilities.
The Council Lords immediately leave Terra in protest.

<Response – The Sub Rosa War aka The First Shadow War – SLDF Intelligence Vs Great Houses Intelligence Organisations. As relations between the Star League and the Great Houses reached a new low SLDF asteroid listening posts and disguised Jump–Ships were removed from the board.
New Warships are introduced with the express purpose of hunting down and killing the SLDF Bug-Eye-class surveillance Warship.
– For the first time multiple Great Houses were able to either restrict or completely cut off any intelligence gathering for analysis in key areas.
It was during this period the Great Houses began utilizing their own Hidden Military Phantom Armies (Purpose: To free their Houses from the Star League and the First Lord’s tyranny.
This War continues on-again / off-again through the Inner Sphere to the Outbreak of the Insurrection – December 26th, 2758 – when construction on all hidden facilities ceases ¬– SLDF Intelligence teams assigned to Sub Rosa are reassigned.
Future analysts will credit the Sub Rosa War as one of the reasons SLDF Intelligence failed in the future.>

<Response – SLDF Special Armed Services – Blackhearts – utilize the Nighthawk Mk. XXI Power Armor (Light) during many operations throughout the Inner Sphere utilizing a new class of Bug-Eye-class surveillance Warship.>

2738
March, 16th – Commanding General Rebecca Fetladral resigns citing fatigue from the constant controversy within the SLDF as to how she obtained her position as the reason for her early retirement.
<In reality – With the start of the Sub Rosa War the Hegemony Nobility demanded her resignation.>
Rebecca recommends as her replacement the one person she believes that can save the Star League from Jonathan’s nightmarish visions: her aide, Aleksadr Kerensky.

<Jocasta, as de facto ruler of the Star League, and Commanding General Rebecca Fetladral, and other members of the Nobility engage in a clandestine meeting with Aleksadr Kerensky … There he becomes a member of a secret cabal whose aim is to ensure the ‘prophetic warnings’ of Jonathan’s letters predicting the destruction of Terra and the League never eventuate ….>

April 21st – First Lord Jonathan Cameron confers Aleksadr Kerensky as Commanding General of the Star League Defence Force. Former Commanding General Rebecca Fetladral is ‘publicly assigned’ to the Logistical Engineering Command.

<Reality – General Rebecca Fetladral is appointed to command SLDF Special Forces utilized within the Sub Rosa War – to hunt down and destroy all the Great House’s hidden forces that are attacking the SLDF ‘s hidden military facilities throughout the Inner Sphere.>

August 1st – First Lord Jonathan Cameron dies of a stroke – Simon is nominated his successor (by Jocasta)

In the pretext of eliminating corruption within the SLDF Kerensky quickly eliminated ‘inept’ officers (pro Ikolor Fredasa supporters) of the SLDF and rewarding the more competent (pro Rebecca Fetladral supporters).

<Response ¬- Major Stefan Amaris is cashiered from the SLDF - Taking up politics within the Rim Worlds Republic.>

2741
The Third Hidden War, also known as the Phony War.

<Taking advantage of the Sub Rosa War.>

The weakness revealed by First Lord Jonathan Cameron’s inaction during the Second Hidden War leads to an upswing in ‘bandit’ activity along the border worlds, adding to an increasing tension between all the Great Houses and the Periphery States.
The situation escalated when a group of bandits raided the Lyran Commonwealth world of The Edge – as more than 500 civilians died in the raid, appalled Archon Michael Steiner offered a huge reward.
Once located the 12th Lyran Regulars caught the bandits unaware (there were no bandit survivors).
Lyran Intelligence Corps discovered they were mercenaries employed and equipped by the Draconis combine.

2742
At the winter Council session of 2742 Archon Michael Steiner confronted Coordinator Takiro Kurita with irrefutable proof – Takiro laughed stating the evidence was falsified and insulted Michael … which resulted in Michael physically assaulting Takiro …
Both parties demanded Cameron and the SLDF to intercede on their behalf, Simon rather than seeking the truth evaded a decision, which prompted a furious Michael Steiner to threaten War.

2743
January
Five brigades of Commonwealth troops are massed on the Combine border, forcing the Combine to respond in kind – putting both realms on a war footing.
February
Multiple battles are initiated in both Combine and Lyran Space – a de facto state of war is now in effect.
March
Commanding General Aleksadr Kerensky, following a duration of nearly a month of war, dispatches a large contingent of SLDF troops and warships to the region.
Both sides stand down. <Neither sides Sub Rosa forces are utilized – playing the long game.>

<Result – The number of “Bandit” raids rapidly grow as all Great Houses Council Lords begin to use these tactics to settle their grudges and grievances.
This in turn forces First Lord Simon Cameron to issue a shoot-on-sight order to any bandit forces discovered …
House ships, therefore, begin to escort their ‘bandit’ forces – protecting them from SLDF assault. >

2744
<Response – SLDF Special Armed Services – Blackhearts – begin to utilize the Nighthawk Mk. XXX Power Armor (Light) during many operations throughout the Inner Sphere.>

2746
Stefan Amaris is posted Ambassador Rim Worlds Republic to the First Lord’s Court on Terra – where he becomes known as the most socially active Ambassador, earning a reputation as being in a mid-life crisis, and a playboy …

<Response – Though these many social engagements Stefan reconnects with many of his former SLDF comrades … and quietly determines their position … pro Ikolor Fredasa supporter or Rebecca Fetladral supporter.
Over time he will be able to amass a sizeable cabal to his (Ikolor Fredasa’s vision for the SLDF) cause – the reformation of the Star League and the Star League Defence Force.>

<Response – Stefan establishes his own spy cells to keep him abreast of all the ‘major players’ dealings within and without the Star League Court.>

<Response – there Stefan also enlists the Outworlds Alliance, Taurian Concordat and the Magistracy of Canopus: As the Periphery States chafed under the Star League – slight increases in living standards and fewer pirate attacks were considered not worth the cost of being exploited and oppressed, a result of increasingly harsh rules under a distant Star League master. When Stefan Amaris approached the other Periphery leaders about a conspiracy to win their freedom, they agree.>

2747
The world of Blue Diamond is struck with an agricultural plague sweeping through their crops.
The planetary leaders made the decision to approach the Hegemony for assistance, setting out for the world of Summer.
Major Lauen Hayes quickly formed a hospital fleet together with a logistical fleet which included food supplies in addition to a complement of agricultural scientists to ensure the planets survival. - assistance from the Commonwealth arrived shortly thereafter to assist.
Lauren was subsequently awarded the Order of the Sword, and became the media’s darling.

<response - Jessica Drillson-Cameron publicly reprimands Aleksadr Kerensky as to not providing her with additional resources to assist the relief operation … and from that date forward Jessica irritated Aleksadr – though being a “Knight of the Sword” provided her with a degree of protection … >

2748
September 4,
First Lord Simon Cameron’s wife, Jessica Drillson-Cameron died. She fell from her horse whilst riding within Peace Park, as at the time, she had been separated from her guides and security detail, it is assumed that her horse lost its footing.

2749
With the Council Lords refusing to put aside their differences and barely acknowledging his authority. First Lord Simon Cameron in response, to ensure the continued unity of the Star League, decides to appeal directly to “its people”, launching his famed Grand Tour.

2750
First Lord Simon Cameron departs on his grand tour leaving his 7-year-old son, Richard, and two daughters Elizabeth and Helena, 5 and 3 years old with his child-hood compatriot, Duchess of Regulus, Elsa Cameron (of the FWL) as his Guardian ad Litem.

<Response - First Lord Simon Cameron begins to understand how out of touch he is with the common people of the Inner Sphere, and how the Star League (and by proxy the SLDF) is viewed on many different worlds.>

2751
First Lord Simon Cameron is murdered at Star’s End. – Leaving his 8-year-old son, Richard Cameron II, as successor.
The five Great House Lords, at the suggestion of the Lyran Commonwealth <In reality, House Cameron threatens war if they do not agree.>, decided to appoint a triumvirate at this stage … for the remainder of Richard’s adolescence … as placing too much power in one person’s hands is dangerous.
The SLDF Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Kerensky is recognised as Protector of the Realm;
The Head of the Department of Administration, Katyusha Lumilova as Regent – responsible for Star League’s governments’ administration and finance; and
Duchess of Regulus Elsa Cameron (of the FWL) remains as Richard, Elizabeth and Helena’s testamentary guardian ad litem, as per his father’s wishes.

2752
The Third Hidden War concludes as the Council Lord’s amendment to the Council Edict of 2650 or Cameron Act of 2650 allows for them to increasing the size of their militaries (All bandit forces are subsequently absorbed into their regular military).

<The Sub Rosa war reduces to minor battles of opportunity.>

< Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Kerensky begins slowly ensuring key posts and key military units are commanded by his cabal followers – His political aim – A new Terran Alliance, where all Great Houses and Periphery states absorbed into one state with one Emperor, where military rank confers political rank, power and wealth … thus he begins to corrupt the very core of the Star League.>

2753
August
Stefan Amaris meets Richard, Elizabeth and Helena Cameron due to his courtship with Elsa Cameron.

2755
Upon SLDF Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Kerensky’s orders several planets become the host to a Star League Defence Force garrison following the “Birthday Proclamations.”

<Response – Kerensky is utilizing these garrisons as forward listing posts within each Great House and to remind then of the strength difference between the SLDF and their forces ie. Operation Persuasive Force.>

2756
SLDF Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Kerensky appoints General Aaron Deer as the Commanding officer of 1st Army - Amaris’ intelligence network identifies that Aleksandr Kerensky is courting Regent Katyusha Lumilova, the daughter of a Russian Autocrat and a highly ranked Star League Noble – and a known pretender to the throne.

<Response – from an outside perspective it appears Kerensky / Lumilova are emplacing their people to retain control of the Terran Hedgemony (ie. a Coup d’état) prior to Richard coming of age.
Stefan Amaris begins counter measures to ensure the preservation of the Star League against a Kerensky / Lumilova Coup – even if it means protecting Richard Cameron either/or Kerensky / Lumilova on the throne would lead to the single largest war in history involving every Great House and Periphery State – The damage and loss of life would be insurmountable, thus the last thing he would ever desire.>

2757
January
Taxation edict of 2757 - Regent Katyusha Lumilova subjects all Periphery States to a steep increase in taxation.

<Rumour Response – Many believed that by creating the military incident within the periphery it would provide a context for retaining the positions of Protector of the Realm and Regent post Richard’s ascension to First Lord (due to his inexperience) and in so doing provide an additional context to remove the young First Lord – and replace him with a seasoned leader …. SLDF Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Kerensky.>

<Response - Court spies are utilized to discover Kerensky / Lumilova’s actual plans whilst at the same time legal enquires are made as to the possibility of their plan being considered legally plausible.>

<Actual - Rebecca Fetladral’s engineering command begins work on a highly secretive operation – Code Name: Lemures.>

May
A nuclear weapon was detonated on Demeter a major military industrial complex and a recruitment and training facility for the Second Arcadian Cuirassiers – sparking a border war between the Capellan Confederation and the Federated Suns.
Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Kerensky refuses to intervene between the Capellan Confederation and the Federated Suns.

<Response – pro Ikolor Fredasa supporters who remain within the SLDF are infuriated at Kerensky’s lack of response, with many more are believed to be siding with their faction due to the shame they feel at Kerensky’s lack of action.>
Get thee to Coventry … Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious by this daughter of Tharkad … Our army shall march through. Well to New Avalon tonight.

2758 - early
Events came to a head when the New Vandenberg Uprising began in early 2758. Protector Nicoletta Calderon provided 18 Taurian worlds her blessing to secede from the Star League. Though as the Taurian Concordat at least nominally remained a ‘loyal’ Territorial State the SLDF could not simply invade.
<Response – just as Aleksandr Kerensky’s personal fleet, under his command, set sail for the Taurian Concordat one of Stefan Amaris’ spy cells was able to infiltrate the household of Aleksandr Kerensky – in which undeniable proof was discovered that a cabal of likeminded nobles, military officers, industrialists and military industrial complex CEOs had all conspired that upon Kerensky’s absence a “Periphery” assassin team is to be dispatched to kill Richard and his sisters, thus setting the stage where he can assume a more ‘permanent’ role as protector of the realm and in due time First Lord.>

2758 - late
Standoff
The Standoff demanded Aleksandr Kerensky’s attention – Publicly hoping to put down the rebellion quickly, without bloodshed, required the redeployment of substantial force of the SLDF to the systems adjacent to the 18 independent worlds under the command of and his XO General Aaron Deer. The belief was the threat of invasion alone (sabre rattling) would bring the wayward worlds back to the fold.

At the same time Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Kerensky (and a sizeable fleet) would undertake a ‘diplomatic mission’ to the Capitol world of Taurius to discuss the situation with Nicoletta Calderon.

Whilst on New Vandenberg the SLDF invaded unopposed as Deer ordered the militia units stationed there to stand down, thinking them appropriately cowered and that such an act would inspire others to defuse the situation.
The militia refused, as such, the incident had the opposite effect of inspiring defiance throughout the Periphery and making negotiations with the rebels increasingly onerous.

Outbreak of the Insurrection – December 26th, 2758
Whilst on patrol, one of the vehicles within the convoy from the First New Vandenberg Militia broke down on the way back to Fort Gorki, a Militia Regimental Base. Anxious and assuming the worst, a patrolling SLDF Royal BattleMech Unit opened fire on the soldiers –a running battle ensued as they sought safety within Fort Gorki.
The Militia’s Regimental commander, Lieutenant General Dominique Petain, had no intention of retaliating, knowing that the Taurian negotiations hung in the balance.
The SLDF again assuming the worst, waited three tense hours for the retaliatory attack before Deer ordered the launching their own assault.

(The Gorki Incident: Was to be an imaginary attack by the defenders of Fort Gorki upon the SLDF. It was supposed to justify an escalation by the SLDF to commence open warfare against these 18 rebel Periphery Worlds. Kerensky, however, completely misread the political situation as the Periphery states were expecting the SLDF to use their existing policy of a heavy-handed approach.)

Multiple Black Box Messages were sent, where …

On Taurius Kerensky accused Nicoletta of being underhanded and being the ringleader of the insurrection, blaming her for the Gorki Incident – The SLDF immediately invaded as a second invasion fleet jumped in to assist with the invasion.

On the remaining 17 rebel worlds – all were immediately invaded by SLDF units at the same (approximate) time.

The invasion by the SLDF was expected to be a short and swift victory due to their superior technology; However, it’s initiation was a strategic loss, as news of the initiation of war triggered by a Royal SLDF BattleMech Unit sparked rebellion across all Periphery States.

2759 – January
Assassins Strike
As news of War within Taurian Periphery State reached Terra Kerensky’s assassins begin to make their move against Richard Cameron and his to sisters.
Assassination Team - Blackhearts – utilizing the Nighthawk Mk. XXI Power Armor (Light).
First, ensure that the Periphery delegation to the Star League Court was in a position as that they would not have an alibi, they would be kidnapped. Then, the Plan involved eliminating the assigned Black Watch Security detail assigned to Elsa Cameron’s private residence, Cheveley Manor, Cambridgeshire, England – once penetrated they would ensure everyone within is assassinated – the building would then be set on light, that arson can be determined, and ensuring the blame can be pointes squarely on the periphery delegation to the Star League Court.
Once completed a (untraceable) vid message would be sent – implicating them to the murder / arson in retaliation for the current Periphery War.
The Periphery delegation would then themselves be executed, in front of a camera, in a vicious firefight with SLDF special forces, whist attempting to flee – the plan also ensures that no one from the delegation would survive.
Individuals within the media would then spin the news cycle to ensure the narrative stays on track.
On the night of the assassination, Black Watch security team, code-name Raven, allowed the kidnapping of the periphery delegation.
Though the assault itself was a debacle …. As the Blackhearts soon found themselves in a Black Watch kill-box code-name Lynx. Though only one was found alive at the end.
As at the same time Raven was rescuing the Periphery Delegation security agents from around the world as well as those off world were provided lists of individuals who were to be arrested as co-conspirators … all known pro-Kerensky participants within the Assassination Plot – whist any military sympathises were removed from their position and placed under surveillance.

The remaining Blackheart succumbed following psycho-chemical interrogation, after making his confession … indicting that Aleksandr Kerensky, Katyusha Lumilova, and Rebecca Fetladral were behind the assassination attempt.

Broadcast
Having secured the Terra … the people were finally informed …

In a throne room gathering Duchess of Regulus Elsa Cameron-Jones, Major Stefan Amaris (once more within his SLDF Uniform) with Richard Cameron (also within a SLDF Uniform) sitting upon the Throne flanked by two Black-Watch Guards.

There the drama of the past few days played out …

In the Name of First Lord Richard Cameron II Commander-in-Chief of the Loyalist SLDF, Lord Protector of the Star League, Stefan Amaris put forward his evidence as to Kerensky’s plan to initiate a Coup d’état – where he and Regent Katyusha Lumilova, were planning to overthrow House Cameron – Thus forcing his hand, to protect the Star League – he would have assume-the-throne due to the state of unrest – the Periphery War and the rising tension with the Great Houses.

He went on to recognise the Periphery and Great Houses legitimate grievances with the current administration – promising reform and return to the original Ethical Star League Moran and Ethical position – Stefan then kept his word to the Periphery states, he would recognise any states right to self-determination if they so desired … whist declaring the SLDF’s Periphery War illegal – and those involved would be tried accordingly, unless they immediately stand down and evacuate the Periphery – where they would be provided amnesty.

<Response – Stefan has now kicked the stool out from under Kerensky – by removing his legitimacy to engaging in a Periphery War by declaring it illegal.>

Stefan then ordered former Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Kerensky to stand down his forces and submit to a trial by his peers in the name of First Lord Richard Cameron II Commander-in-Chief of the Loyalist SLDF.

A week later – Kerensky’s reply arrived …

Kerensky refused, citing that he was legally still the defender of the realm – and that Stefan was utilizing undue influence of a minor, in addition the supposed evidence was manufactured by Stefan Amaris … As it was his duty to safeguard the Star League form all aggressors, foreign or domestic … the war in Periphery would continue … and he would return to Terra to liberate it …

He then went on to promise that Stefan would suffer for his perfidy, that by wars end the Rim Worlds Republic, as well as his entire family would cease to exist … with eyes promising hatred, vengeance, and revenge no matter the cost!

<Response – A HPG document form the Court of the First Lord was sent to all SLDF Commands … declaring Kerensky was wilfully disobeying lawful orders by his superior – Insubordination – and a traitor to the realm. As such he was no longer to be recognised as Commander-in-Chief of the SLDF. Any unit, therefore, defecting to Kerensky would therefore be considered an enemy of the Star League and the First Lord.>

<Response – General Lauren Hayes, former commander of the 151st Royal BattleMech Division is appointed as the new Loyalist Commander-in-Chief of the SLDF.>

Kerensky would discover that approximately 40% of the military units within the SLDF remained with Loyalists, whist 60% remained with him – whilst the majority of the logistics and transport vessels remained with the Loyalists, thus creating an initial transport problem for him. Whilst the Navies Warships were virtually equally split …

He would then learn, “that-woman” General Lauen Hayes had been appointed as the Loyalist’s Commander-in-Chief.

A HPG Call …
Kerensky, thus requesting aid from all loyal Great Houses as he surveyed the situation … They all refused, stating as the Star League had so many times in the past when each Great House requested aid, this was an internal issue, and as such as not their concern!

Kerensky’s Plan
As both sides needed time to reorganize into new combat groups – together with a new chain of command – General Ikolor Fredasa’s Sub Rosa Special Forces would attempt to keep the Loyalist Terran Hegemony forces off balance, thus giving Kerensky time.
Thus, he believed, he would then be in an advantageous position to defeat them, whist simultaneously defeating the Periphery states, and bringing them back to the fold he would use them as his military industrial complexes – with the exception of the Rim Worlds Republic (which proved his inexperience - he ignored rationalism and pragmatism for hatred vengeance and anger …) whom he decided to burn them to the ground as a warning to anyone else who would cross him …

The reorganization of his new combat groups required stipulating new designations …

Whilst the twenty armies were reorganised into strategic operational groups based upon their strategic objective …

Sub Rosa Special Forces – Recon Corps
Terran Hegemony – I Corps
Taurian Concordat – V Corps
Magistracy of Canopus – IX Corps
Outworlds Alliance – XIIV Corps
Rim worlds Republic – XVII Corps
Strategic Reserves – XXX Corps

Thus, Kerensky’s SLDF became known as … Renegade Corps

Kerensky now found himself outside the Hegemony, with no allies, little supplies and a less than marginally adequate transport and logistics fleet …

Operation Reformation – Opening move
As Stefan’s go code for Operation Reformation spread throughout the Inner Sphere SLDF personnel loyal to his cause acted …
For Admiral Marlene Leroy, now a Commander over SLDF Logistics Transport Fleets throughout the Inner Sphere, gave her consent – the majority of vessels under her command, who’s Captains she chose for command, immediately broke contact with Kerensky loyalist Units … rendezvousing instead with Loyalist SLDF units. There they began transporting them and all available critical warehouses logistics stores to the Terran Hegemony (denying the enemy access to existing logistics stores) … and with her came almost half of the entire SLDF Naval Warship Fleets …

Kerensky’s Kommissar and the Black Box
Essex Class destroyer SLS Vampress
Sensors detected a burst transmission, upon extensive investigation a “Black Box”, was discovered – upon further investigation the crewman responsible was ‘interrogated’ and found to be part of Kerensky’s Kommissariate to ensure their loyalty.
A transmission was subsequently sent out – military wide investigation commences – at the same time the number of sabotage cases increases (necessitating measures to find these Kommissars / Saboteurs).

Opening Shots
General Rebecca Fetladral’s Recon Cops (Sub Rosa Special Forces) initiates combat operations throughout the Inner Sphere against Loyalist SLDF units in hit and run operations designed to destroy their logistics Transport Fleets.

Whilst Civil War had broken out …. Loyalist forces together with Renegade ‘traitor’ SLDF Units were engaged in battle throughout the Terran Hegemony and sporadically throughout the Inner Sphere similar dramas played out.

Great Houses
Assume the position of neutrality as to the Star League Civil War.

The Escape
A heavily pregnant Katyusha Lumilova escapes from the Terran Hegemony in her private JumpShip and Luxury Dropship, Ambition, into the Capellan Confederation.
Get thee to Coventry … Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious by this daughter of Tharkad … Our army shall march through. Well to New Avalon tonight.

Problems with regards to the SLDF ….

Remember the Star League was established as a trade alliance (similar to a combination European Union / United Nations) thus having one leader above all others as well as the idea that a Reunification War would commence so early on becomes ludicrous …

First, the establishment of the initial SLDF would be quasi police / military … something similar to the UN Peacekeepers that we have now.

It would only be over time that their mandate would change from Peacekeepers (Ikolor Fredasa being the last such commander) to that of a mainstream military (Rebecca Fetladral and Aleksandr Kerensky).

Thus depending on the Commander / First Lord / Council of Lords at the time the SLDF could wax and wane between these two identities.

Also, it is my belief, that assigning an equal size military to each Great House / Periphery verges on an oxymoron decision. In reality (I believe) each Great House / Periphery would have been assigned the number of units based upon their individual requirements; such as the number of worlds they have – and the population requirements for each individual world. As well as the number of worlds that have a requirement for a garrison or due its strategical location, as well as the extent of piracy activity. Thus, the number of units assigned to each Great House / Periphery State should represent the number of units required (and no more) thus keeping the cost of maintaining the SLDF down to an absolute minimum.

Second, the idea that the SLDF would be so vastly superior (in size and technology) to that of each individual house is an illogical statement – a false premise – as each house and even periphery state can have the ability (via R&D) to create a more advanced technology than that of the Terran Hegemony – that is the Hegemony cannot be considered to retain its technological advantage over hundreds of years – just as we are seeing now the US once had a technological advantage, however that is no longer the case.

Third, I have, therefore, decided to modify the size of each SLDF to the requirements of each House / Periphery State thus the idea that each House / Periphery State is assigned an equal amount is now considered illogical.

Fourth, as all worlds are now self sufficient and can create their own conventional military forces / vehicles, and even BattleMechs given their technological rating – Thus each world’s forces / should be considered when moving forward. When you look at military dropships composition this must also be considered when determining SLDF composition – especially when it comes to infantry and vehicles.

Fifth, I would also like to add every world, whose population and technology is high enough should also have a massive space station(s) with the ability to manufacture both DropShips and JumpShips – also the number of worlds that can manufacture WarShips must also be considered – thus the idea of a massive gap between House units and that of the SLDF also becomes ludicrous – even when you consider that every state adds a pert of their forces to the SLDF to maintain this quasi police / military force.

Also the idea that anti-ship satellite weapons was considered “a new idea” is once again laughable – thus it is quite conceivable that every important regional capitol world should also maintain a vast anti ships space weapons platforms, in addition to a vast number of aerospace fighters.

Lastly, politicly the Great Houses would NEVER (intentionally) allow the First Lord to create a law that would minimise their forces a ratio such as that given by canon.

Also –
WarShips should be considered vastly more superior to that of their Cannon Cousins, and

In my opinion the Ares Conventions is fully in effect! The idea that Nukes, as well as other WMDs are used in mass is also a ludicrous proposition … or a weapons system has been developed to make them obsolete.

My SLDF will therefore be vastly different to that as canon would have you believe …

Therefore, … on a factor ratio basis for what actual and then with the addition of Sub Rosa (second column) – as on the surface all are striving for peace, however, below the surface the First Lord has become a tyrant!

SLDF Units … 1 to 1.50 … 2.00
Federated Suns … 0.50 … 1.00
Lyran commonwealth … 0.45 … 0.90
Draconis Combine … 0.45 … 0.95
Free Worlds League … 0.40 … 0.8
Capellan Confederation … 0.40 … 0.75

Rim Worlds Republic … 0.45 … 0.90
Taurian Concordat … 0.30 … 0.40
Outworlds Alliance … 0.25 … 0.35
Magistracy of Canopus … 0.20 … 0.30

Plus, I believe that we need to add in a few additional realms just to make the Inner Sphere a more interesting place to exist circa 2759 – that is the Star League has recognised the independence of the following realms to create new additional Independent Realms that I am going to include going forward … except for Tortuga and Butte Hold who due to necessity established their own pirate Realms outside the Inner Sphere.

Rasalhague Republic … 0.30 … 0.60
Republic of Skye … 0.30 … 0.45
Stewart Commonality … 0.25 … 0.35
Duchy of Andurien … 0.35 … 0.40
United Hindu Collective … 0.25 … 0.35
Tortuga Pirate Dominion … 0.25
Azami Islamic State … 0.30 … 0.40
Butte Hold Pirate Dominion … 0.15

Note – even pirate realms can create warships and aerospace fighters!
Get thee to Coventry … Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious by this daughter of Tharkad … Our army shall march through. Well to New Avalon tonight.

2700
Aleksandr Sergeyevich Kerensky, Born 16 December, born Moscow, Terra.

<Nt. – As a member of a Minor Nobility Household, and entitled Defender of the First Lord, created enmity with that of other Nobility Households. Overtime this would lead to hostility and bloodshed – and in the fullness of time would force a young Aleksandr to emigrate to Tharkad, on his own upon the murder of his parents.
It would also produce a life lone enmity towards the Star league – and a vow that he would destroy it all from within.>

2739
In the pretext of eliminating corruption within the SLDF Kerensky quickly eliminated ‘inept’ officers (pro Ikolor Fredasa supporters) of the SLDF and rewarding the more competent (pro Rebecca Fetladral supporters).

<Response ¬- Major Stefan Amaris is cashiered from the SLDF - Taking up politics within the Rim Worlds Republic.>

<Response - In reality Aleksadr Kerensky begins fulfilling his lifelong dream of finding those dissatisfied with the current state of affairs within the SLDF. Thus his Cabal of like-minded officers and enlisted personnel begins to be formed with a singular goal – the destruction of the Star League and its replacement.>

Whilst the twenty armies were reorganised into strategic operational groups based upon their strategic objective …

Sub Rosa Special Forces – Recon Cossack Corps
Terran Hegemony – I Cossack Corps
Taurian Concordat – V Cossack Corps
Magistracy of Canopus – IX Cossack Corps
Outworlds Alliance – XIIV Cossack Corps
Rim worlds Republic – XVII Cossack Corps
Strategic Reserves – XXX Cossack Corps

Thus, Kerensky’s SLDF became known as … Renegade Cossack Corps to their enemies … or the Imperial Army Corps to their allies.

Continuation of the Alt. History …

2760
War Dawn
As word of the broadcasts between Richard Cameron and Aleksandr Kerensky spread throughout the Inner Sphere SLDF units soon found themselves engaged in passionate debate that led to political division which inspired the many atrocities that occurred, on both sides. Organised purges or mass executions on a lesser scale also took place so that one side or the other could consolidate their future, with the participation of local authorities / conventional militaries, varying from world to world.
It became an age of chaos as units became besieged, assailing others, or undergoing transport to their designated side.

Battles of note include …

Terran Hegemony
Commander-in Chief (Loyalist Forces) Lauen Hayes immediately set out to restore order to the Terran Hegemony – First
Operation Crusader – utilizing each worlds conventional forces, in addition to any loyalist forces to oppose any renegade forces.
14 June Fighting commenced on Terra Firma with the combat drop of the Loyalist 211th Striker Regiment and the 48th Hussar Regiment, engaged the 12th Heavy Assault Regiment, under the command of General Viktoria Aleshire, that were assigned to the Hegemony to replace 1st Army forces used in the Taurian Concordat Campaign.
Second
Operation Hannibal – utilizing deep strikes to capture / destroy key enemy facilities …
These may include …
1. Hesperus II – BattleMech manufacturing facility as well as their Orbiting Shipyard.

<Result – Naval Battle only – Renegade forces have converted orbiting shipyard into a forward Naval Command for their battle sector.>

2. Helm – SLDF Base – Nagayan Mountain Complex – Largest munitions dump constructed.
Plus others …

<Result – Ground Battle in which Loyalist forces were overcame Renegade forces – transport dropships

<Response – Though each Great House would decry the War, none are in a position to force either sider from assuming bases within their territory and using them for the War – all they can do is assist in removing the population from their close proximity to these bases.>

At the same time diplomatic missions are sent out to all Minor and Major Houses to appraise their position – consider future alliances ….

Rim Worlds Republic
General Rebecca Fetladral’s advance reconnaissance Naval forces engages the Rim Worlds Republic’s within the Somerset system.

Taurian Concordat
Commander-in-Chief (Renegade Corps) Aleksandr Kerensky’s forces are besieging the Capitol City of Taurus, trapping Nicoletta Calderon within the city, whist his Naval forces are engaging the asteroid field - bombarding them with their main cannons.
The Remainder of the Renegade SLDF are engaged now in a war of conquest for the Taurian Concordat.

Lyran Commonwealth
Tharkad
The SLDF Naval Space Station engages in a Naval Battle against a Renegade Naval Fleet attempting to board – by battles end both sides suffer massive damage.

Magistracy of Canopus
Unbeknown to the renegade SLDF the Magistrix establishes a plan to assist with supplying the Concordat with weapons whist then evacuating war wounded / refugees to a hidden medical facility on a nearby planet, whist at the same time a rescue mission has been set in motion to retrieve Nicoletta Calderon and whisk her and her government away to Canopus (Government in Exile).

Republic of Skye, Stewart Commonality and Azami Islamic State
Kerensky’s Renegade SLDF forces invade Skye, Stewart and Azami states as a prelude to invading the Terran Hegemony.
As such these three states become de facto allies to Cameron’s Loyalist SLDF.

<Result - All major Houses protest Kerensky’s use of their worlds as staging grounds for invasion of the Terran Hegemony. Kerensky however just ignores these protests, as he knows that given these circumstances they will not act (at this time) as long as his SLDF units remain on existing SLDF bases and he only invades the smaller states to use their military industrial facilities to support his invasion logistical requirements.>

2761-2762
For the next 12 to 18 months battles will rage across the Inner Sphere in order for one side or the other to extricate themselves / consolidate their position / destroy / capture key enemy bases from their enemy.

Terran Hegemony
Besieged on all sides by renegade SLDF Units – with worlds lost within the Terran Hegemony / Bases taken or destroyed in the surrounding area.

Taurian Concordat
Renegade SLDF possessed and overwhelming military superiority over the Concordat annexing the realm – their military industrial capabilities are being utilized to provide military logistical support.

Magistracy of Canopus
Nicoletta Calderon and her government are now within Canopus as a Government in Exile – conducting a resistance movement.

Rim Worlds Republic
SLDF Loyalist forces have allied with Rim World Republic forces to stave off General Rebecca Fetladral’s advance –has now devolved to a war of attrition upon highly advanced / high population worlds.

How the War expanded over the past 18 months?
Both sides have damaged the other … yet the war continues …
Militarily
Loyal SLDF have a shorter Logistical chain, they can also concentrate forces on a reduced number of worlds – placing their forces in a strong defensive position attempting to keep out the renegade forces.

Renegade SLDF have surrounded the Terran Hegemony. Both sides are concentrating their forces into Brigade size forces to engage each other with …

Rasalhague Republic
Azami Islamic State
Republic of Skye
Stewart Commonality
Duchy of Andurien
Magistracy of Canopus

Joint Operation
Duchy of Andurien and Magistracy of Canopus
Secret coalition of three minor powers – Combined Military.
Aim – once the majority of Kerensky’s forces are engaged in War against the Terran Hegemony they will initiate a War of Liberation for the Taurian Concordat together with SLDF Loyalist forces assigned to assist them. – whist at the same time entering into a alliance with a joint defence agreement.

<Result – all three realms looking long term – Post Civil War in the event the whichever forces succeed.>
Get thee to Coventry … Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious by this daughter of Tharkad … Our army shall march through. Well to New Avalon tonight.
