--- I started this one by trying to squeeze a Fafnir's worth of Heavy Gauss Rifles into a cheaper, but still well protected, chassis. I eventually fluffed it as a 3070 vehicle for the Lyrans as they had only just developed the Heavy Ferro-Fibrous Armor in 3069 and likely would be looking for ways to capitalize on it. With the Fafnir a mere 7 years old at this point, and the cost of deploying 100 ton BattleMechs... a more cost-effective means to bring a pair of Heavy Gauss Rifles to bear seemed to me to be in order.
--- Thusly, and in much the same vein as the Demolisher, the Balmung would serve as a Lyran-exclusive heavy vehicle and precursor to the Demolisher II-X. Obviously, the main armament is a pair of HGRs, fed by 4 tons of ammo per gun, for 32 shots total. 12 tons of Heavy Ferro-Fibrous armor with CASE serve to protect the crew from both their own guns and the guns of their enemies. This vehicle excels in Urban Environments, not unlike the Demolisher of yore, and it's Fusion Engine gives it a matching movement profile.
--- Unlike the Demolisher II-X, this unit uses less advanced technology... if only just. Likewise, it mounts no weapons other than it's HGR and as such requires support against infantry and BA. Named for the sword which Sigmund used to kill Fafnir.

I can appreciate the rugged simplicity of this design. Average movement, decent armour okay price tag. It’s a solid design if simple. The only draw backs I am see are similar another self propelled gun I made a while back. Similar in concept it used a improved heavy Gauss tied to a targeting computer and had stealth armour. The main issue was a lack of secondary armament, which is the same with this design. I mean it works but it could use a tad extra. Maybe 2 medium lasers to take advantage of that free heat sinks in the reactor?
In short it’s solid, okay priced and has decent stars just needs a tad more.

--- Two tons less ammo, but with a pair of ER Medium Lasers mounted in a turret. Trades away half of a ton of armor to make that work. Figured it'd be a basic enough modification for a factory-level variant. There would likely be some desire for a version with some added flexibility.
