An announcement to the people of a state that the executive position of government has officially become a monarchy like the royalties of old.

The reason that it has become official is because the regent has become an official position, it would be the first ever new official regent in interstellar history, hence the question of "the first ever".

So I'm wondering what this first ever official public announcement was like.

None of the BattleTech monarchies appeared suddenly. The Federated Suns was a slow progression from elected official to prince, detailed at length in the House Davion Sourcebook and House Davion Handbook.

I would think the houses would go more of a dictatorship, which pretends to be a monarchy. the FS and LC being most like an easy dictatorship, while the DC and CC being closer to a standard one. That does not mean they don't have some freedoms for their people, but given the size of the nations, it is not a good idea to stifle everything. Too many issues at one time would destroy the nations, even the small CC.

Though it does leave the question on if the nations in the game really left the monarchy/feudal system behind?
This comes about due to distances and time. As one ruler can not be everywhere at once, you have to have trusted people running areas that you can't be at.

And those trusted allies become your enemy when either side gets upset with the other.

First let us consider the position of “Regent”, it is a person appointed to govern a state pro tempore (ie. for the time being) due to the monarch being either a minor, absent from the realm or incapacitated – that is they are unable to discharge the powers and duties of the monarch – or perhaps the position of whom the monarch is has yet to be determined, due to the death of the previous monarch, thus once determined a coronation will be scheduled and upon crowning the new monarch the position of Regent becomes superfluous.

As for an announcement to the people informing them of the shift in government – expect this to be an autocratic decision in which the people will be told this is it – and by the way you have no say whatsoever in this decision.

And like all announcements in the past the wording will be carefully chosen so as to convince the population that what is occurring to them is in their benefit (ie. hiding a lie in plain sight and dressing it up as for the benefit of the people).

What is really occurring is that the people are willing to exchange certain freedoms for the security of being told what to do – in effect becoming vassals to an autocratic state and their assigned Liege Lord. As enticing as all this sounds the people have now lost everything that was fought for from the signing of the Magna Carta onwards – so no sympathy for them!

Thus by unanimous decree of the new monarch the old government is no more – as it has now been replaced by a single person with absolute power to do absolutely anything they want.

And as a consequence of this shift in government the concept of a Regent is considered an automatically accepted part of the newly established “government” system.

There really isn’t a requirement for an announcement that the position of Regent exists - - it will just be wheeled out as and when it is required as the people by now would have googled what a serf means (as that is what they are), and how an autocratic Liege Lord rules by whim alone – as well as all other aspects of the new government and realise they have made a massive mistake and yet as the military backs the new Liege Lord they really don’t want to object any time soon – so the majority just go along with the flow as long as it doesn’t affect their lives and belief systems too drastically.
Get thee to Coventry … Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious by this daughter of Tharkad … Our army shall march through. Well to New Avalon tonight.
