These fictional events of the ‘Requiem Alternative Universe’ constitute a history describing humanities extrasolar colonization expansion and their subsequent conflict.
If the events depicted here bare a resemblance to anything you know, or the people appearing here bare a likeness to anyone you know, it is but a fluke of history, and an inevitability.

Preface
These fictional events constitute an “Alternate future history” that describes the course of humanity from the conclusion of World War II, 1945 A.D., and the founding of the United Nations (U.N.), who would then go on to become the first human government, the Terran Alliance, until the mid-thirty-second century. A real-world history is therefore being overtaken by an alternative fictional history timeline.
Given its peripheral theme of space exploration, colonization, and the establishment of political factions, which inevitably leads to the central themes of politics and technology development during various ages of human inter-galactic military conflict.
Early History
The United Nations (U.N.) was a sovereign federation of ‘formerly independent’ nation states that spanned across the surface of Terra.
Founded in 1945 following the end of World War II, as an international organization, originally facilitating, the maintenance of world peace and security, human rights, and international cooperation. It would go on to expand its charter to include the World Health Organisation (W.H.O.) in 1948 promoting world’s health and serving the vulnerable.
At the close of the Twentieth Century / start of the Twenty-first Century the U.N. was seen, by many, to be a flawed institution – as the Permanent Security Council Members maintained an ability to veto any important “substantive” resolutions of other members - to thwart their rival’s political objectives in the name of petty spite and vengeance – thus any ‘real’ attempt at reform became impossible – as citizens throughout the world began to foreshadow the fall of the Primary Nation States Governmental apparatus based upon their own misguided hubris and beliefs, and were therefore taking action accordingly (further destabilizing their own Nation States as terrorism becomes prevalent).
Ironically by early 2038 Terra commenced a cataclysmic climate shift, primarily derived from long term impacts of pollution which only exacerbated the ‘greenhouse climate change effect’: the added water from melting ice sheets and glaciers commenced mass tsunamis as the sea level rises. Which was then quickly followed by a new ice age in the Northern Hemisphere, combined with multiple pandemic outbreaks world-wide.
Nation’s governments began collapsing into anarchy one after another – with only N.AT.O. and China retaining any cohesive military force. The U.N. (utilizing the W.H.O. as a mediator, who were combating the multiple rampant pandemic outbreaks over the globe at the time) an alliance between the remaining world governments was formed into the new U.N. government to consolidate and represent the remaining world’s (powers) nations (and their peoples) into one United Terran Government (U.T.G.) to preserve humanities remaining population.
By early 2040, the U.T.G. (formerly the U.N.) would expand its charter to include the Ecological Safeguard Initiative (E.S.I.). – who’s remit included the ecological restoration of Terra (by any means necessary) - Thus to ‘restore world order’ World War III commenced (The Seven Year Unification War) – as one rogue nation after another was conquered, new representatives were assigned to these former rogue nations to enforce the rule of law and to commence their ecological repair.
March 31st 2047, WWIII ceases as the U.T.G. achieves global unification (dominion). Secretary-General Ashante Bianca becomes the first executive leader for all humanity.
2048 – Advancements in engineering and materials allows for the first of four planned planet-to-space transportation systems, the orbital bridges, to commence construction – Anchored at equator these immense towers will rise to a geostationary altitude of 35,786 Km - a vast ‘counterweight’ orbital station located upon the upper end releasing their cargo to and from orbit thus permitting for the colonization of the Luna surface.
Lunar Colonization Settlements – (Idea originated per: Mobile Suit Gundam: Thunderbolt Vol. 19) -
As Terra is so fragile a decision is made, that it has-to be protected at the highest levels, to curtail humanity’s need for destruction and personal greed, the decision therefore involved the construction of giant Luna terrariums - ensuring many plant and animal species on the verge of extinction are safeguarded with the hope of future restoration – thus protecting Terra’s fountain of life.
(Note – with this ability, in the near future, these terrariums will be used to spread Terra’s ecology into the vastness of universe through colonizing planets.)
2050 – Luna Heavy Industries commences construction of O’Neill Cylinder Space Settlements – Design consists of two (or more) counter-rotating cylinders rotating in opposite directions to cancel any gyroscopic effects that would otherwise make it difficult to keep them aimed toward the sun. Original Settlements are two kilometres in diameter and seven kilometres in long, connected at each end by a rod via a bearing system. Their rotation therefore provides artificial gravity. 2051 – Sol System Exploration and Interstellar Transport Vehicle Corporations commence upon Luna to assist with future colonization endeavours.
2055 – Colonization commences within the Kuiper Belt objects. A secondary construction yard(s) of O’Neill Cylinder Space Settlements and Sol System Exploration and Transport Vehicles – together with vast mining operations – are established.
2061 - (U.T.G. Politics – A new Bill before the Legislature provides for the permanent removal of humanity’s lower caste to enable the intelligent restoration of Terra’s ecology – “As Terra should only be available to U.T.G.’s Nobility”, Secretary-General Ashante Bianca.)
2062 – Mass colonization commences upon Mars, within the Olympus Mons terrariums - U.T.G. commences mass (compulsory) exodus of Terra’s unproductive citizens to either the new Luna cites, O’Neill Cylinder Space Settlements, Kuiper Belt Objects, or Mars as a means of decreasing Terran unemployment / increasing space technology / colonization initiatives.
2079 – With the development of new inter-system drive technology (reaching a speed of half-light-year) the mass transport of “willing colonists” intensifies, whilst at the same time, Operation Nomad commences – where new O’Neill Cylinder Space Settlement ships design has undergone a radical retrofit to allow for “nomad” colonists to voyage upon the first generational ‘cryo-sleep’ ship class to the constellation of Cestus and the single star of Tau Ceti, at a short distance of just under twelve light-years.

2100 The United Terran Government (U.T.G.) is renamed as the Terran Alliance (T.A.).
Starting in 2102 (September 2102) the Terran Alliance Parliament debated the creation of the first faster-than-light (F.T.L.) drive. Fourteen months later (November 2103) debate ended with parliament authorizing the development of a F.T.L. drive under the name of the Deimos project (due to the projects Research and Development location – The Martian moon of Deimos).
June 14, 2106 - the prototype ship was towed to a point seven A.U. adjacent the north pole - (zenith) of Sol., where it would take another ten days to externally power up the ship.
September 3, 2106 - as the research flagship Endeavour transmitted the jump signal a bubble of light encased the ship, almost instantaneously the prototype unsuccessfully rematerialized seven A.U. adjacent from the south pole (nadir) from sol. (bypassing the sun) – as a mass of small debris.
March 30, 2107 – as a by-product (of the drive) it is discovered that whilst at low power the drive creates an energy field encompassing the ship. Therefore, allowing travel at sub-light velocity, and reducing in system travel to any colony to mere days rather than months.
October 9, 2107 – as the research flagship Endeavour once more transmitted the jump signal a bubble of light again encased the test ship, and again the ship instantaneously dematerialized. Though this time the ‘track’ was tangential to the Sol. System (within a continual zero magnetic and gravity system field), this time it successfully rematerialized seven AU from its start point.
A Terran official reported, “A little off target, but intact … we now live in a strange bubble.” After this quote, the Deimos hyperdrive came to be known as the Bubble Drive.
The unprecedented success of the first hyperjump increased funding to achieve the first successful human jump. Therefore, on February 5, 2108, Sachiko Shizuka became the first human to jump through hyperspace – experiencing only slight dizziness and nausea.
December 5, 2108, the final stage of the Deimos Project commenced as the TAS Pilgrim made its historic manned jump and exploration of the Tau Ceti System.
December 15, 2108, Engineer Michelle Land becomes the first human to walk on a world external to the Sol. System.
January 4, 2109, TAS Pilgrim returns from the Tau Ceti System – proving Tau Ceti IV to be a garden colony world with abundant resources and a benign environment.
This success would lead to the commencement of interstellar colonization expansion, as colonists and corporations begin the first Terran Exodus.
February 2110, thirty-five civilian scientists settle on Tau Ceti IV.
Multiple commercial shipyards begin construction within Luna and in geosynchronous orbit above Terra, Luna, Mars, Titan, and Deimos – Interstellar shipyard corporations included Fincantier Interstellar , Mitsubashi Stellar Technologies, Damien Shipyards Group, Daewood Stellar Marine Engineering, Imabar Shipbuilding. Sumsang Heavy Industries, and XTS Shipbuilding.
Between March 2110 and February 2115 – TAS Pathfinder is refitted and resupplied and is first dispatched to retrieve all “nomad” colonists, voyage within the first generational ‘cryo-sleep’ ship class vessels. It is then dispatched on a survey of all systems within a forty-light-year radius from Terra – resulting in a thirty-five system / fifty worlds survey.
March 18, 2125 (AD - Anno Domini becomes recognised in later years as 0001TE - Tempus Exodi), the TAS Artemis disembarks the first five hundred colonists to Tau Ceti IV under the Terran Alliance Governorship of Martin Cabot (with his marine detachment).
Note – These colonists are the first to utilize the Sub-Light Drop-Ship Technology utilizing the Bow-Energy Field Protection System from small particles that would have otherwise damaged the ship.
Future exploration within the area of space (that will become known as the Tintagel Sovereignty) indicated stars spectral class sought after were Class G. Majority of systems discovered, however, were either Class K or Class M. Therefore, few Terran like worlds were discovered that contained suitable resources. These worlds would therefore become the centre for provincial government and economies.
2141 (0016TE) Tau Ceti IV - Self-sufficient military / civilian shipyard established.
2145 (0020TE) O’Neill Space Settlement Cylinders attempt an upgraded to include bubble-drives, thereby allowing mass transportation of people (colonists) / horticulture / agriculture / forestry / aquaculture / viticulture / colonization technology etc. Research and development into planetary terraforming as well as the creation of Terraforming colonies commences.
The mass of the O’Neill Cylinder renders, however, renders any internal bubble drive an impossibility. As a work around a ‘star gate’ is established – forming an external bubble that allows for the transportation of ‘super-heavy’ star craft across the vastness of space.
2150 (0025TE) (onwards) Colonization Protocol of 2150 is implemented as new classes of commercial and military Jump-ships are constructed utilizing a new internal drop-shuttle bays procedure. These in turn will exponentially increase the number of colonies (as well as the number colonists) that are established from one year to the next ... consequently a golden age of exploration and colonisation is achieved.

2155 (0030TE) In an effort to curtail the communication timeline issues the Terran Government (in addition to large media corporations) begin constructing small ‘Pony Express’ communication ships.
2175 (0050TE) (onwards) as the population of Terra rapidly decreases due to the overwhelming ‘popularity’ of colonization the Terran Government introduces. An advanced program of environmental rehabilitation allowing the majority of the Terran surface to be ‘cleaned of humanities presence’, thus returning these areas to environmentally protected wildernesses - over time all environmental pollution is expected to be corrected by the early 2300s (0175TE).
2200 (0085TE), experimental pre-hyper-pulse communication technology begins to be distributed to all colonised worlds’ Terran Alliance Governors. Messages now only require months to arrive on Terra (if they arrive at all!). Multiple high-technology colonies begin constructing military industrial complexes in addition to establishing their own military forces.
Vast sums of Colonial Tax revenue (and Corporation shareholder profit) begin to be received by the Terran Government. Thereby creating an economic argument for continued colonial expansion …
Outer Reaches Rebellion

May 2236 (0121TE) – Year 1: Outer Reaches Rebellion - commencement of military intervention.
Terrestrial Sphere has expanded to a periphery boundary of (approximately) 60 Light Years
Initial Terran Alliance Military Forces
CO: Brigadier General Alexander Adel - 2nd Strategic Assault force
Initially a series of anti-government protests, uprisings and small armed rebellions that spread from World of world in early 2235 (0120TE) in response to Terra’s assigned Governors’ corruption, incompetence, and economic / technological stagnation.
The rebellion successfully became a revolution for independence, as the desire for freedom quickly spreads throughout the rim worlds, what was known at that time, the periphery boundary of colonized sphere, as one colony after another will openly declare their desire for liberty from the Terran Alliance Governorship.
As Mizar became the first world to declare their independence on January 3rd, 2236 (0121TE), as peaceful demonstrations (on this ideal world) in opposition to both high taxes (used to finance the construction of their orbital lift to the geosynchronous space station) and the social constraints imposed upon the planetary population – The breaking point came when the Colonial Terran Governor, Ardyn Endmill, imposed a ludicrous tax scheme, The Marriage Tax Bill, that required a mandatory dowry to be levied prior to the issuing of an appropriate marriage license – Peaceful demonstrations tuned into riots and were then followed by severe crack downs. Which in turn lead to the removal of their ‘high-handed’ Terran planetary Governor and other administrative officials when on January 20th a group of local militias mutinied and attacked the Governor’s mansion, injuring several security marines. As his regime collapsed, the Governor fled to Terra.
On January 23rd, Mizar declares itself independent.
As word of Mizar’s independence spreads through merchant communication fleets their lead in a military declaration of independence is swiftly followed by similar declarations through military rebellions upon adjacent worlds including … Cor Caroli, Menkent, Galatea, and Syrma.
Though not all worlds used military force, on Summer, however, they declared their independence by plebiscite, and in so doing defied their Alliance Governor’s threats of military intervention.
February-April, becoming autonomous in domestic affairs and commerce Mizar sends envoys to other colonies who also declare their ‘independence’, regarding a mutual defence agreement concerning information sharing and the distribution of military industrial complex weapon systems – in the event of a future Terran Alliance military intervention (ie. discussions with both legal and illegal arms dealers, smugglers, and muti-system corporations with their own private military).
March 6th, Former Colonial Terran Governor of Mizar, Ardyn Endmill, arrives within the Sol. System – Where he informs Terra’s Parliament Mizar has staged an unlawful military insurrection against their Legal Governor and, consequently, have declared themselves independent.
Although the Secretary-General of the Terran Alliance, Gaston Erhard, is responsible for diplomatic missions, deploying troops, declaring war and peace, all major decisions regarding the Terran Alliance’s commitment to war must first be approved by the Government’s Cabinet members. At the time of the Mizar Incident the Cabinet was split by those who believed diplomatic mission was required (due to the incompetence / corruption of the Governor) and those who believed in military action …
In the days to come, as the debate to their correct response continued, news of additional periphery worlds declaring their independence continued to arrive one after another. Brigadier General Alexander Adel and Admiral Scott Park, therefore, conspired to utilize the 2nd Strategic Assault force, the 5th Battle Squadron and the 3rd Auxiliary Group to undertake a mission to bring all wayward worlds to heel – where marines would be used to invade and subdue any hostile forces and to replace any illegitimate Government with the rightful Colonial Terran Governor of Mizar, Ardyn Endmill (who had ‘agreed’ to accompany the military unit).
Though Gaston is secretly averse to such an action – politically he now finds himself in lock step with the ‘militant’ faction when news of the fleet’s departure is declared to Parliament’s cheers. – Thus, on March 15th a ‘Police Action’ is declared by Gaston Erhard, upon the renegade periphery worlds.
Nt. Simultaneously – A media / taxation minimisation / employment drive campaign is demanded of all internal worlds Governors in order to maintain their alliance to Terra.
April 26th, 2nd Strategic Assault force establishes a ‘garrison town’ upon the world of Haddings. Where the Aviso Class dispatch boats, TA Stiletto and the TA Talon, are immediately assigned to both Mizar and Menkent (respectively) to undertake a reconnaissance of their respective target worlds.
Upon returning to the 2nd’s garrison town, where their captains both unveiled bad news – as per merchantman crew rumour the desire for freedom throughout the periphery was spreading at an exponential rate with Mizar at its centre.
<Nt. – Terrestrial Sphere periphery boundary worlds, at the 60 Light year periphery radius, who have declared their independence, circa early May 2235 (0120TE), include: Alioth, Alkalurops, Galatea, Marcus, Milton, Mizar, New Dallas, Nusakan, and Sabik.>
The decision is made to divide the 2nd not four independent forces, whist a support ship returns to Terra to inform them of the expanding number of renegade worlds – hence requesting the need to activate the majority of the Terran Military with all due alacrity.

Political theorist Fukumi Fujimori once famously proclaimed that with humanities expansion into void, humanity would finally have peace, as a triumph of freedom over competing ideologies. With a single warning … humanity must be free of all political entanglement from a single authority lest there be eternal war.
May 20th 2235 (0120TE), 2nd Strategic Marine Assault force – Alpha Task Force - CO: Brigadier General Alexander Adel commence their opening salvo as their Corvette fleet transition into Mizar’s zenith jump point, a zero magnetic and gravity system field external to the Mizar system itself, as their bubble drives are quickly reconfigured for JCW protocol. Alpha Strike Task Force, therefore, begins its 12-day inward run to gain control of Mizar’s Bubble gate, located in geosynchronous orbit – to enable access to their larger warship and transport vessels.
Thus, with the arrival of 2nd’s main assault force Mizar’s revolutionaries, under the command of Ulysses Ravenscroft, fled into the wilderness, allowing the 2nd to take the open city unopposed.
Mizar Civil War
Operation Starfall (also known in Mizar as the Battle of New Venice Beach) was the first major offensive action conducted by Terra’s military from the 18th to 24th June 2235 (0120TE). The operation was based upon intelligence provided by the Colonial Terran Governor, Ardyn Endmill and where Brigadier General Alexander Adel devised a plan to launch a pre-emptive strike against the rebel forces to nullify their threat to Mizar.
The operation was conducted as a combined arms assault involving ground, air, naval and space units Terran marines were deployed by sea hover ships, together with dropship landings. Mizar’s Marauders attempted to use a variety of tactics to counter the Terrans, fighting from prepared positions and then withdrawing as the Marines gained superiority through their utilization of superior military weapons technology. The Marauders were unable to withstand the Marines firepower … retreating in good order the bulk of the Marauders were able to escape, due to an inappropriate movement, at the wrong time, by an inept Terran senior officer.
Following Operation Starfall Mizar’s Marauders commence a guerrilla operation - a multi-pronged attack upon any vulnerable military installations established for reconnaissance units. As observation cameras aboard the TWS Vengeance, now in low orbit, realize they are unable to penetrate the forest’s dense foliage (creating a natural fortress where advanced weapons will amount to nothing).
As the weeks drag on Adel becomes increasingly dictatorial, as it is announced that …
- Any-one supporting a general strike would be immediately deported to a forced labour camp.
- Constitutional guarantees, such as freedom of assembly and freedom of expression, are cancelled.
- All free press would be suspended and be replaced with an ‘approved’ news service i.e. a total news blackout as to the wider situation.
August 10th riots and demonstrations become increasingly common, as Adel delt with these protests with increasing repression – all native Mizar citizens are now viewed as possible revolutionaries.
October 26th 100 of Ravenscroft’s 1st Rebels Unit attack an outlying army barracks. The attack is subsequently repelled with the arrival of an armoured unit, eight soldiers and twenty-three rebels are killed in the fighting, three of which were summarily executed following their capture by the base commander. Whilst at the same time a separate revolutionary group storms the Planetary Governor’s Residence, attempting to assassinate Governor, Ardyn Endmill and Brigadier General Alexander Adel, thereby attempting to overthrow the ‘illegitimate’ government. The attack ended in utter failure with only with only a handful of rebel survivors - as only one individual was able to penetrate the tenth floor of the residence.
For the next year (November 2236 (0121TE) to November 2237 (0122TE)) Ravenscroft and his remaining Marauder forces are hunted over the surface of Mizar, though as time progresses on the number and severity of forces dispatched is noticeably reducing. This all changed in early December with the arrival of both a representative of the vast Conglomerate (Skye) - Bridget Argyll and a CMM War Correspondent Crew.
As it was Bridget who informed them of the wider conflict that Terra now found themselves in ….
Mizar was the first warzone; however, it was not the last as Terra’s complete Strategic Assault forces are now assigned to multiple combat zones throughout the vast Periphery border. Mizar has inspired a mass revolution …

Effectively the entire periphery had risen in revolt … and consequently Terra is now progressing toward a logistical and financial breaking point as the battles are becoming increasingly desperate.
Bridget then went on to explain that for “certain” future economic considerations, for her Conglomerate, that wishes to maintain their anonymity at this stage, in an eventual post-free periphery setting her conglomerate (Skye) is willing to assist Ravenscroft’s Rebels with military intelligence and hardware to enable them to both expand and retaliate - thus continuing their fight for freedom.
June, 2238 (0123TE))
As the war on Mizar slowly escalates the final battle occurs in space, when multiple renegade shuttles are utilized as trojan horses to penetrate and capture Mizar’s civilian logistics space station (and control hub for bubble gate), whilst simultaneously commandoes attack and capture the orbital lift whilst with the arrival of the armed merchantmen FFC Arcadia, FFC Arpeggio and FFC Aphrodite they are seen to hold the station due to their close proximity to the station’s bubble gate ….
August 10, 2238 (0123TE)) - A date that shall live on in infamy ….
Brigadier General Alexander Adel, aboard the TWS Vengeance, receives a message from the Dispatch Squadron (Aviso Class) ship TA Stiletto, newly arrived from the relay point (Mizar’s zenith jump point) linking Mizar to Terra for small ships with their own bubble drive, with orders to retreat to a more ‘winnable’ world – thus scuttling his plans to retake the civilian logistics space station, and the newly attached orbital lift, at the last minute.
… one week later …. as the retreating Terran military depart a celebrating Mizar a humiliated Brigadier General Alexander Adel orders the unthinkable … the TWS Vengeance opens-up with a full broadside against the armed merchantmen FFC Arpeggio (who is currently in very close proximity to the civilian logistics space station / bubble gate). As escape pods are being released the heavily damaged ship then suddenly rolls to the starboard striking the bubble gate – both the station and the uppermost orbital lift evaporate in a massive explosion whilst Mizar’s atmosphere explodes – as the energy shockwave strikes the land and sea earthquake and massive tsunami become common– all told 98% of Mizar’s remaining population perish in less than one hour as Adel’s fleet offers no assistance whatsoever … as the entre event is captured by a CMM war correspondent who was residing in one of the few subterranean bunkers at the time…
As images of ‘Adel’s Atrocity’ spread Terra’s moral high-ground for maintaining the periphery war waned … whilst plans for court-martialling Adel never eventuated – as in early September 2238 (0123TE)) the FFC Witch of Endor, FFC Aphrodite and FFC Anne Bonny finally caught the TWS Vengeance within the Summer System’s nadir jump point – In the ensuring battle Aphrodite was severely damaged and forced to retire, Witch of Endor and Anne Bonny suffered moderate damage. Damage to the Vengeance, however, was critical – and when she attempted to use their bubble drive the warship exploded in a massive fireball of light.
The Terran Government learnt that it was impossible to put down multiple rebellions, especially when they occurring simultaneously, whilst unknown force(s) were assisting the rebellions, then coupling this with multiple freedom / anti-war demonstrations at home (suffering a massive loss in public confidence and a lack of social economic spending due to increased war spending).
