==Overview:==

Clan Ghost Bear has favored OmniMech designs like the Executioner (Gladiator) which gave rise to the Charon (Avenger). The Avenger has pushed speed to the limits for an Assault "Mech with its 400 XL Engine and can reach speeds of 140.4 KPH with MASC and a Supercharger. Its 5 permanently mounted jump jets enable it to jump up to 150 meters. The Inner Sphere has given the nickname of Avenger stemming from the bizarre look of the design screaming onto the battlefield with no pilot ever seen ejecting from it. The Clans named it after the Greek Ferryman Charon who took souls across the river Styx to the underworld.

The Avenger basically has the speed and firepower of a Medium 'Mech and the armor of an Assault 'Mech. Whether this combination is successful or not will be determined by the warriors. There have been frightening rumors of the Avenger keeping pace, albeit briefly, with the Dasher OmniMech. The main shortcoming of this design is its limited pod space. The following are the most common configurations which incorporate much of the Clan's advanced technology:

Prime Configuration: With an ER Large Laser, an ER Medium Laser, Streak SRM-6 and LRM-15 with Artemis IV, this configuration has an excellent combination of firepower to cover all ranges.

Alternate Configuration A: With 6 Medium Pulse Lasers tied into a sophisticated targeting computer, this configuration can dish out accurate damage in situations that are likely to be quick and costly at close range. A Micro Pulse Laser can also be used at point blank range.

Alternate Configuration B: This configuration is meant to engage the enemy at long range with its twin Large Pulse Lasers and then exploit the holes in the armor with its Streak SRM-4 and Light Machine Guns as the range closes. The Light Active Probe helps detect ambushes.

Alternate Configuration C: Similar in concept to the B configuration, this design uses an ER PPC to blow holes in enemy armor but exploit those holes at longer range with an LB-10X Autocannon. An ER Small Laser can be used if the fight goes toe to toe.

Alternate Configuration D: The two LRM-20 racks provide long range firepower and can be used indirectly although that use, like Light TAG, is rare, due to Clan honor. A Narc Missile Beacon can provide Artemis like capabilities for its missiles but requires the pilot to bring his machine in to a relatively close distance to the enemy.

Alternate Configuration E: Twin ATM-9s provide the main firepower of the design with Heavy Medium Lasers providing a wallop at closer ranges. Each ATM launcher has 2 tons of ammunition, so most pilots elect to have 1 ton of Extended Range ammunition and 1 ton of High Explosive ammunition per launcher. A flamer provides effective defense against infantry.

Alternate Configuration F: This configuration is similar in concept to the Prime but has an ER Large Pulse Laser, and ER Medium Pulse Laser, and LRM-15 with Artemis V and an electronics suite of a TAG, Active Probe and ECM. A grenade launcher, often loaded with confetti, has been fired at the end of a victorious battle.

Game notes: The Avenger has positive design quirks of distracting, reinforced legs and stable and negative design quirks of difficult to maintain, non-standard parts and no ejection.
