Although the Capellan Confederation had been mauled in the Fourth Succession War and struggled to rebuild its military, the aspirations of the Chancellor remained high with the hope of building advanced machines that could turn the tide against the superiority of the Federated Commonwealth in terms of numbers and capabilities.
Having acquired a Marauder II chassis from unknown sources the Cataphract II project was initiated, more as a proof of concept than an actual production design. Similar to the Marauder converted into the Cataphract the Marauder II was converted into the much larger Cataphract II
It retains the legs and part of the torso, but switches out one arm of a reinforced Crusader arm capably of mounting a large laser. Jump Jets were swapped out for Hildco Model 13 though the Magna Hellstar PPC and medium laser of the original were retained. A Diverse Optics Sunbeam ER Large Laser, acquired from the FWL was mounted onto the left arm. Four domestically produced Ceres Arms Medium Lasers provide front and rear short range firepower, while an Imperator Code Red LB-10X is mounted into the right torso. Fifteen Double Strength heat sinks help to keep the heat in check.
A sophisticated Electronics suite with ECM, Probe and a TAG system gives the Cataphract II the ability to counter enemy electronics and track nearby hidden enemies while allowing it to call in withering artillery against any foe that can resist its potent arsenal. Retaining the original 19 tons of armour the Cataphract adds extra protection by installing CASE to guard against ammo explosions, while an Anti-Missile system protects against enemy missile fire.
Sources disagree on the number of units built, although it would seem unlikely that the Capellans had more than one Marauder II at their disposal, several sightings in 3047 may have been attributed to older models of Cataphract with an electronics suite such as the CTF-0X that were still lingering in with certain units.
It seems that the difficulty of reverse engineering the Marauder the same way Wolf's Dragoons did for the Marauder II was a hurdle the Capellans were not ready to jump and no sightings were recorded beyond 3048.
That is until 3149 when one was sighted in service with the Capellan Reserve Cavalry only to promptly vanish again and has not resurfaced since.

A little lightly armed, but a good demo of recovered technology for the 3040s.
