After being asked to subcontract on the Atlas IIC, Defiance Arms was struck by a very Lyran urge to build a similar unstoppable beast. The Successor State for whose mech units "thundering herd" was coined would have yet another assault mech in its arsenal if Defiance Arms had its way.

Also, 100-ton mechs were a lot easier to have approved by the Anti-Christ than smaller, more mobile mechs.

The Atlas-X came out undergunned, leading Defiance Arms to begin negotiations with Clan Wolf-In-Exile to purchase Clan ER PPCs. These negotiations are continuing as the Atlas-X enters production.

The significant internal and external changes lead the LAAF to alter the Atlas-Xs' procurement number considerably from the standard Atlas.

BR-1CK Atlas-X
100 tons
hell yeah level 3 tech
20 tons reinforced internal structure + triple strength myomers
9.5 tons 300XL engine
Walking: 3
Running: 4
Jumping: only off cliffs
4 tons 14 DHS (1 RT/LT)
3 tons gyro
3 tons cockpit (with advanced satellite uplink)
38.5 tons hardened armor
Head: (3) 9
CT: (31) 50/12
RT/LT: (21) 30/12
RA/LA: (17) 34
RL/LL: (21) 42
.5 tons variable range targeting computer (H)
14 tons 2xER PPC (RA/LA)
6 tons 6xMedium Lasers (3 RT/LT)
1.5 tons Guardian ECM (CT)
Triple Strength Myomers (2 RL/LL, 1 RA/LA)

BV: 2,438
Cost: 30,415,000

The Atlas-X was not designed for alpha strikes, following an either-or philosophy between its lasers and PPCs. It is able to engage its triple strength myomers readily, however.

The stock Atlas-X has some flexibility to its weapons array, at least in the factory. The medium lasers can be replaced with ER medium lasers, an easy field upgrade. All variants have a mount in their arms for PPC capacitors (an easy field installation), which would necessitate the removal of one laser from each side torso. At the factory, one laser in each side torso can mounted facing the rear.

If negotiations are successful, the Atlas-X will mount 2 Clan ER PPCs. The freed tonnage will be used to replace the medium lasers with 4 X-Pulse medium lasers.

The Atlas-X does have an extra bit of armor that does not add any protective value, a result of engineers preferring to round up during design. As the Atlas-X is being sold exclusively to social generals (oddly, "real" LAAF mechwarriors have yet to buy any) the extra 0.125 ton is being used for decoration. The basic model is a large, embossed Steiner Fist on the center torso, but several buyers have requested embossed kill markers. Two buyers discarded the excess mass and used it in other manners. One social general installed an ABR in the cockpit only to be upstaged by a rival who put in a compact, polished brass and cherry wood (though unarmored) wet bar.

Comment: The XL engine introduces some vulnerability to the BR-1CK, but it can probably be eliminated by switching to normal PPCs, shedding some heat sinks and some of the equipment. This model strikes a nice balance between invulnerability and firepower.

Don't remember the exact rules for armored components... but can you use the extra armor to armor components??

Armored components require 0.5 tons per critical slot occupied by the component (so 3 tons for a standard engine, 6 tons for an XL), and basically provide 1 extra critical hit on that particular critical slot.

Armoring cockpits requires 1 ton.

Now that I think of it, I should've added an armored cowl and armored cockpit to this. That would only take, like, 2 tons. It'd be worth it to watch jaws drop when the head took an HGR shell at short range and was still there...

Speaking of cowls, does anyone remember rules for them?

Where is the AC/20? Or the Gauss Rifle? And what about the missiles? This is not an Atlas without them. :D

:P Let's see YOU get 38 tons of armor and 20 tons of internal structure on a mech and then have room for an AC/20 and LRM 20.

Besides, I said the changes were so drastic the mech got a completely new procurement number: BR-1CK.
