Manufacturer: Alshain Weapons
Primary Factory: Krenice
Communications System: Sipher CommCon CSU-4
Targeting and Tracking System: Cat's Eyes 5

Overview:
The PTR-11A Panther is an attempt by the DCMS to remove a few
flaws found in the PTR-9R and PTR-10K; with overheating and defence
being the primary concerns.

Capabilities:
The PTR-11A utilizes the same basic components and internal
stucture of the -10K, making refits of prexisting units easy to
upgrade in the field. The most dramatic change over it's predecessor
is the removal of one heat sink and the use of double heatsinks to
control heat, allowing the new Panther a higher sustained rate of
fire without the need to cool off. The extra tonage has allowed
techs to beef up the armor on the legs and torso and to a lesser
extent on the frontal torso area. Designers sought to replace the
old, but reliable SRM and Artemis system with a series of multiple
laser array. Two medium lasers are installed in the center torso
where the missle system used to be as well as a pair on the left arm.
Finally a small laser is mounted to the right side of the head.

Deployment:
Currently, only a lance of -11As have been seen on Luitien, but
experts believe others may already assembled and awaiting shipping to
front line units.

Battle History:
There has only been field tests of this units. Only a few pieces
of gun footage have been 'secured' from the DCMS. In one exercise, a
PTR-11A was providing support for the other units in its lance when a
Pheonix Hawk attempted to outflank and engage the Panther. The
Pheonix Hawk pilot, not familiar with the mech, though to engage the
unit at close range when it appeared to overheating from lack of PPC
fire. Well placed laser shots quickly subdued the enemy mech.

Known Variants:
One variant speculated from 'converations' of informats with
technicans and mechwarriors is the removal of a half ton of armor and
small laser. A C3 Slave is installed in the head for C3 capable
lances.

Blurb- I'v always liked the Panther. Such a small unit mounting that much power is one of my favorite styles of mech(fast and nimble being the other). I hate the 3050 design- an ER PPC with just 13 standard heatsinks. What were they thinking???? It was just begging me to do something about it. I installed doubles, got rid of the SRM(no ammo explosions YEAH!), and used lasers. I am quite happy with the result.

You haven`t seen a real killer light until you see the customized Jenner an old MechWarrior PC of mine uses...10 DHS, beefed-up armor and the SRM replaced by two more Medium Lasers. Ugly things happen to enemy mechs that stray too near.

I think the designation is PNT, not PTR

Nitpicking aside, I've got a Panther upgrade which jacks it up to 40 tons or so, retains the ER-PPC, and upgrades the SRM-4 rack to a Streak-4. It's really nasty because it's twice as fast as the original Panther -- mine goes 7/11/7. I'll have to dig up the stats on it.

Still, this is a nice design. You're right about the original upgrade... you HAVE to have DHS to use those ER weapons effectively

IMO you really don't need the two extra DHS--just add two more Medium Lasers. Then you get a nice either-or loadout (ER PPC + jump, {ER PPC+2ML at medium range}, 6ML at close range).

Nathan beat me to it on dropping the heatsink weight. Overall this is a solid panther I would use. *gives thumbs up*

We are a race that has the ability of going beyond the boundries placed on us. The question we should ask ourselves then is whether or not we should go beyond those boundries?
