These are the primary mechs of the United States in 2279. The Challenger and the Patton have the same role, except that the Patton is considered the replacement for the Challenger. The Chappral is the Long Range Fire Support mech. Compared to the mechs of the LC, these are relatively low-tech machines with mostly level one and some level two equiptment.

2 Rocket Launcher 15s
2 Streak SRM 6s
4 Medium Lasers
1 AMS
Manufacturer: Unknown
Primary Factory: Unknown
Communications System: Unknown
Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown with Long-Range Targeting

Overview:
The Chappral is the long-range fire support mech of the United
States Military.

Capabilities:
The main armament of the Chappral is the LRM-15s that reside in
each torso. Combined with the long-range targeting system that it
mounts, it is deadly accurate when laying down fire-support.[HARD
RETURN]In addition to the long-range missiles, it mounts a pair of
Rocket Launcher-15s. The rocket launchers provide a one shot long
range weapon in case it shoots thru the four tons of LRM ammo that it
carries.
Each arm mounts two medium lasers and a new Streak SRM-6 pack.
Initially designed for use in the new tanks, the Streak missiles are
guided, and thus have a higher to-hit percentage.
Each leg contains two A-Pods to prevent infantry swarming attacks
in case LC infantry manage to pentrate to the rear lines. An
anti-missile system rounds the mech out, preventing against any
long-range LC attacks.

Deployment:
Each Mech battalion in the United States Army and Marine Corp
contains at least one company of Chappral mechs for fire support,
despite its high costs.

Battle History:
In the debut battle of the PAT-1 Patton, the Chappral played a
key role. Stationed on a ridge overlooking the advancing LC
battalion, it used its LRM's to bog down the enemy, giving the
Pattons an opportunity to advance unmolested.

CHL-1A Challenger

Chassis: Unknown

Armament:

Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown

Overview:
Poorly Designed from the start, the Challenger, the 1st American
Mech, lived up to the name of the 20th Century American Space
Shuttle. It lacked the specialized ammunition bins to protect most
of its firepower, and the unstable XL engine had a tendancy of
causing Ammuntion to cook off if its shielding was ever breached.

Capabilities:
Beyond its ammunition storage problem, the Challenger proved
quite capable when given the opportunity. Its primary weapon, the
AC-10, was the main gun of the top of the line MBT, allowing for each
repair in the field. At first the medium laser mounted in the right
arm was unstable, but field upgrade kids were quickly released to
correct this problem.
The Challenger mounts an AMS to protect against the LC's
facination with missiles, a technology hardly new to the Americans(ie
Phalanx CIWS), and an SRM-6 to take care of any vehicles that stray
too close.

PAT-1A Patton

Chassis: Unknown
Power Plant: Unknown 200 XL (Clan)
Cruising Speed: 53.75
Maximum Speed: 86
Jump Jets: none
Jump Capacity: none
Armor: Unknown with CASE
Armament:
4 Rocket Launcher 15s
2 Medium Lasers
1 AMS
1 Autocannon/2
1 Small Pulse Laser
1 ER Small Laser
Manufacturer: Unknown
Primary Factory: Unknown
Communications System: Unknown
Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown

Overview:
The Patton is the newest American battlemech. It was designed to
make up for many of the challenger's deficencies, test several new
weapons systems, and take advantage of several new tactics against LC
forces.

Capabilities:
Unlike the Challenger, the Patton is geared more towards short
and medium range combat, where the LC's long range weapon's advantage
is nullified. This is most notably illustrated by the inclusion of a
sword as a primary weapon.
The Mech's primary medium range weapons are 4 rocket launchers,
mounted in the torso sections. Although these weapons are one shot,
they provide enough firepower to distract any enemy mechs while
closing to short ranges.
The left arm contains two medium lasers and a Class 2 Autocannon.
These longer range weapons provide enough heat to activate the mech's
triple strenght myomer strands as well as giving it added long range
firepower.
The right arm includes the sword as well as teh new small pulse
laser and ER small laser. These weapons were reverse engineered from
salvage taken during the battle of Northwoods. It has taken two
years of continuous research to get these weapons into the field,
even with their current bugs.

Deployment:
The Patton is only deployed in two divisions currently, the 1st
Armored Calvary Division which is deployed along the border between
Texas and LC ally Mexico and the 1st Armored Division, which is
stationed in the European Union and fighting alongside EU forces
against LC incursions.

Battle History:
Despite being a relatively new mech, it has cut its teeth in
several engagements already. The most notable was in a repulsion of
a raid across the Rio Grande in 2278. Two lances of the new mech had
just been recieved by a battalion on the border when an uppidity
commander of an LC battalion decided to test this new beast.[HARD
RETURN]Without any intelligence on the new unit, he led his forces
across the border. The US commander, somewhat versed in the new
mech, hid them along the path that the LC forces were advancing, then
placed all of his fire support units on a nearby ridge.[HARD
RETURN]When the LC battalion came into sight, the US units began
laying down long range fire. Distracted by the units on the ridge,
the LC battalion didnt notice the advancing Pattons until it was too
late. The first warnings of the approaching units came when the
swords smashed through the cockpits of the leading mechs, but by
then, the Pattons were too close to LC units to use their longer
range weapons.
Only 7 of the 36 mechs from the LC battalion managed to escape,
and several usable mechs were left behind as salvage.

This is an alternate history, but how distant from BT's? The US probably survived in a recognizable form up until the creation of the Terran Hegemony, so a USA of some sort was around in 2279 in canon BT.

I'm making it fairly distant from the Canon BT universe. I'm going to do a write-up on it soon to describe the political situation in this world and post it on the general board.

If you notice some of the other mechs that I have created for this universe, such as the Earthstike and such, you will notice that they have some very advanced features that weren't available in 2279.

Well, since battlemechs weren't introduced until 2439 in FASA's history, pretty much any feature on them is "very advanced" for 2279. Which is cool by me - I've done an alternate history where the mech was introduced c2300.
