Overview: Slow defines this class of ships. When the cost of upgrading the ancient Essex and Lola I was to great for the Hegemony budget, the Admiralty put out a call for a new destroyer. Many shipbuilding firms put forth designs, but one caught the eye of the Admiralty, the Baron its cost was realtivly low, adequate firepower and adequate anti-fighter protection. A prototype was built and tested and it was deemed acceptable as a replacement for the aging Essex.
Capabilities: Designed to replace the aging Essex as a flotilla leader, pirate hunter and fleet escort.
Deployment: 100 of these vessels were produced by the Mitchell company over 100 yr period. All were used in the Star League navy as fleet escorts and corvette squadron leaders. In 2700 the Admiralty seeing that the slow destroyers were outclassed by House destroyer they decided to quietly replace the class with a newer destroyer, a faster destroyer, a new Essex class. Of the 100 ships built 25 were demiliterized and sold, 50 would be upgraded and 25 would be mothballed in a secret League Facility. The 50 upgraded Barons would prove their worth 50 yrs later during the Amaris Crisis and the long and bloody fight to Terra. only 3 Baron class ships would survive the conflict, the Baron Von Kruger, the Baron of Tarnberry and the Baron Von Rictoffen. these three vessels left with the Exodus fleet and were never seen again. Arriving at the Pentagon worlds the three Baron class were mothballed. When the Pentagon Civil War broke out, loyalist forces took control of two of the Baron class ships and left for Strana Mechty, the third was forgotten about until Clan Blood Spirit found the cache fleet of one Baron and two Carson destroyers. Taking one Baron and Carson and selling the other Carson to the ravens the Spirits have begun to update and upgrade the two vessels they are to be joining the Spirit fleet sometime 3071. The two Baron class ships that left for Strana Mechty were used for trade route protection until the formation of the Clans. One ship went to the Not-Named Clan and was not accounted for, the other became the property of the Widowmaker Clan and fought against the Clan Wolf fleet over Circe but was captured and mothballed after the trial. Recently Khan Ward has looked at returning the ship to active duty.

It's got an authentic Star League-era feel: thin armor, light weapons, no secondaries. Good work.
Though note that on occasion, 3/5 was considered fast for Star League-era warships.

Is it? I couldn't tell by eyeball from the provided stats. Why is the engine over-sized but under-powered?

my wrong engine weight is for 5/8 not 4/6. older vessel using early ship engines due to budget constraints.

Pretty good ship, overall. May I make one suggestion, though?
You mentioned to Cray that you calculated the engine as if it were a 4/6 thrust craft, but kept it 3/5. I'd almost recommend using 18% mass for the transit drive (as if it were 3/5), and making it 2/3, instead, using the extra 6% for additonal 24,000 tons of cargo space. That'd make it slower than the other canon destroyers, like the Essex, which replaced this class. It'd also give it a larger cargo berth, which was common for the ships of the era.
