Overview:
Slow defines this class of ships. When the Admiralty called for a escort for the Monsoon battleship one of the requirments for the new destroyer was that it would keep pace with the Monsoon class warship and not outrun it and leave it with no protection from enemy vessels.
But as with all things these vessels were not used for their intended purpose, the high and mighty admirals who called for this vessel and set down the requirments soon began ordering the Carson Class to picket duty, pirate hunting and protecting various hegemony companies jumships assets.
the Carson Class could not adequatly protect the jumsphips nor could they engage pirates quickly enough. Disenchanted with their new toy the Admiralty decided to end production of the vessel.
Capabilities:
Designed with the concept of Battleship escort the Carson class excels in this role. She can act as an AA ship, engage other ships of equal or lesser size with some success and fininsh off straglers from the Battleships attack.
Deployment:
Of the 60 vessels produced many were relegated to systems patrol duty or Space Station Guard duty. 20 were demiliterized and sold to various houses, 40 remained with the Star League forces and were used sparingly. By the time of the Amaris Crisis many of the class were little more than training vessels(15 to be exact) all of them were destroyed by the SDS defense system protecting the hegemony. 18 were on manuvers with the Star League in the periphery and 6 were mothballed in the Sol System awaiting orders to be scrapped, these 6 would be captured by Amaris forces when Terra was taken. Over the next 22 years of war against Amaris the ship class would shrink to 6, the Cody "Kit" Carson, the Wild Bill Buffalo, the Davy Crokett, the Daniel Boone, the Grizzly Adams and the Joshua. All of the lost ships would be against the Casper SDS warships. The ships would leave with the Exodus fleet and never be seen again. When the Exodus finally landed on the pentagon worlds the Star League in Exile mothballed many ships the 6 Carsons were one of the many class mothballed. When the Civil War broke out loyalist protected the cache from rebel pirates and kept the fleet cache safe. When the Clans came to retake the 5 Pentagon worlds they also fought trials of possesion for the remaining warship caches. Clan Widowmaker adn the Not Named Clan each won trials for 2 Carson warships. 1 of the Not Named Clans Carson is unaccounted for, both Widowmaker Carsons were captured and mothballed by Clan Wolf during the Trial of Absorbtion. Khan Ward has directed the Clan's resources to used to bring these warships into service. Khan Kell of Clan Wolf in Exile knew that his clan would need additional warships to survive, sent small teams to search for warship battle sites adn report back with any possible salvage, one team came back with a report of a battle site in the old hegemony world of Dyev. apperantly two Carson warships were attacked by one Amaris destroyer and three corvettes. Both Carsons were salvable as well as one corvette. it is unknown as of this time if Clan Wolf in Exile has claimed these vessels or not.

Very plausible design history - get designed for one thing, get pressed into duty somewhere else where the vehicle isn't optimal.
Good AA ship, indeed, with all those missile launchers.

You included a very plausible history for the ship. Like many RL vehicles, it was designed for one purpose, but pressed into service in roles it wasn't meant to perform, and suffered.
