The Low Output fusion engine is one of a variety of cost saver engine types that fell largely into disuse and consequentially obscurity with the fall of the Star League. The engine strictly limits the engine output over time so as to maintain nearly the same performance with out needing a number of costly components.
The Low Output (LO) engine weighs that of a standard fusion engine of its rating. The Low Output (LO) engine only includes enough free heat sinks to disipate the mechs movement heat, as generated when running (2). This means if the mech mounts double heat sinks it includes a single double heat sink, or 2 standard, or 2 compact. The LO engine can include as many "sheilding" heat sinks, that require no criticals as any normal fusion engine. The LO engine requires power amplifiers as per an ICE equipped unit. These amplifiers weigh 1 ton for every ten tons of energy weapondry. Amplifiers require one critical space in the location of the energy weapons they serve aboard battlemechs. If a power amplifier takes a critical hit all energy weapons in that section are no longer propperly powered, and unusable. Cost: (2,500 xRating xtonnage)/75
Comparision: Standard Engine Cost: (5,000 xRating xtonnage)/75 ICE Engine Cost: (1,2500 xRating xtonnage)/75
I find that 'pinpoint' accuracy during a bombing run increases proportionally with the amount of munitions used.

Interesting. Sounds like mostly a civilian engine.

Best case scenario this yeilds a mech with a workable engine at half cost. Worst case weighs alot more, with the power amplifier and heat sinks.
It is basically the middle ground between a ICE and Fusion Engine, and would probally be more than sufficient if the mech (or vehicle) relies primarily on non energy weapons.

I'm guessing UtilityMech, or something small? Like the guy said up top, sounds civic. Perhaps something low-tech for some random militia/pirate group from the Periphery?
Nah, Fusion XL still good for most things though...
