All the dissapointment of a succession wars Blackjack in the 3060s. This is meach meant to serve somewhere in that continuium between support mech and garrison design. Cheap, sophisticated (at least electronically), and effective if used propperly. Not a game winner, or even a first choice but what backwater commander with access to C3 slaved units wouldn't want a couple of these serving in the fire support lances.

==Overview:==
The Alatyr is one of a number of new designs created in the Free Rassalhague
Republic as a means to individualize the consarme from its Lyran and Combine
parent states. While a competent design the limited number of functioning
production lines remaining in the FRR has forced the rather novel approach of
peice construction with limited assembly with in the FRR. This has made it not
only possible but extremely successful as many factories across the inner
sphere have expressed an intrest in producing 1 or 2 new parts though few
governments are willing to rent out a full assembly line.
In general the Alatyr most closely resembles a support mech of 30-40 years
ago. Many critics have in fact compared the Alatyr to the succession wars era
Blackjack and Rifleman. this isn't merely coincidence however the Alatyr was
designed to serve primarily in defensive roles, the most common in the modern
FRR, where long range weapons come into their own. Backing the some what
primitive armament and structure is a sophisticated electronics suite meant to
maximize the accuracy and utility of the otherwise budget design.

==Capabilities:==
The Alatyr is built on one of the simplest chasis produced in the inner sphere
since the low points of the succession wars. Not only is the whole frame
devoid of the advanced construction methods and materials common in the 3050s,
the layout and actuators make no attempt to improve upon proven design. While
this is boring and has lead to problems in changing the armament and equipment
of the mech, it has also dramatically decreased the cost to produce Alatyrs.
As such no advanced versions are expected to be produced soon.
The main weapondry of the Alatyr is 2 Mydron Excel class 5 LB-X autocannons.
These small bore ballistic weapons while heavy and inefficient in comparison
to energy weapons have proven to be quite useful in combating conventional
forces. For ease of maintenance both autocannons are arm mounted with a single
centralized ammo bin.
To ensure the safety of Alatyrs, especially at range, each Alatyr mounts its
own electronics support and an anti missile system. These two sophisticated
systems while expensive have prove to make the Alatyr extremely survivable.
Finally the Alatyr incorporates a C3 master system produced in the combine.
This was a future looking tactical decision by FRR military planners whom
expect C3 slaves to become vastly more common by 3065. In field trials the
long range firepower and electronics support has proven to mesh well with the
C3 link.

==Battle History:==
Extensive combat trials with new Alatyrs have been fought onTukayyid with
Comstar troops. While officially these training exercises emphasize on
combating clan tactics FRR tacticians have managed to create a number of
security exercises. In these training missions which feature traditional Lyran
or Draconis Combine mechs the Alatyr has proven extremely successful.
Generally the Alatyr is paired with combine produced C3 equipped support
mechs, such as Naginatas, or Black Watchs. This training has actually birthed
a new tactic in the FRR the abreviated C3 chain. This tactic centers around
using a greater number of C3 masters to C3 slave nits to decrease the
likelyhood of disruption. Mysteriously this tactic often mimics some suspected
to be used by Comstar itself.

==Variants:==
The Alatyr's simplified chasis and peculiar production have meant that most
variants are extremely rare and difficult for even experienced tachnicians to
keep on the field.

I'd have to say: LRM 10s or 15s instead of LBXs. AC/2s and most AC/5s ('cept the RAC) are kind of underpowered. About all you're getting out of the LB5Xs is good anti-air bonuses and fairly good anti-vehicle critting (which can be matched by a LRM 15). The LB5X's damage can be matched by LRM5s, which is pretty bad.

But the fluff is great and the mech has a cheap, solid chassis.
