After being totally creamed by arrays of Medium Pulse Layers a few too many times, some mechjocks screamed at their engineers to help them out. The engineers decided that, although a true energy barrier would be too costly, it was still feasible to build a "pulsing" energy barrier whose frequency could be synchronized with any pulse laser.
Pulse Armor weighs the same as normal armor but takes 7 crits. The mech with Pulse Armor will generate an amount of heat equal to half the attacker's unmodified to-hit roll (basically, from 1 to 6 heat). Pulse Armor totally nullifies the damage of any incoming pulse laser, although it will also activate even if the pulse laser did not hit. Pulse Armor takes twice as much damage from machine guns, LBX-ACs, and infantry riflemen.
Lousy good-for-nothing mortals. Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.

As a rule, BT and mysterious force fields don't mix. The closest thing to a force field in BT is the "Blue Shield" of (IIRC) Unbound or the Tac Handbook, which uses an exaggerated magnetic field to reduce PPC damage. Blocking laser light requires rather more fanciful systems.
I'd recommend looking into that laser reflective armor in MaxTech, or consider smoke dischargers.
