------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== When a major investigation was launched to assess the effectiveness of the SLDF operations during the Periphery uprising, a number of glaring failings were noted. The SLDF was more than a match for any regular opponent, but it was nearly totally unsuitable to fight against a prolonged guerilla campaign. One of the main weaknesses was the lack of suitable rapid reaction mechs.
Responding to this problem the SLDF high command ordered a series of new mechs to deal with the problem. A completely new design was produced in a record seven months, using a lightened Cicada frame.
==Capabilities:== The Damocles was designed as the first in a series of SLDF mechs that could be used to flush out and counter guerilla raids.
The Damocles is designed to be a fast strking rapid response mech, mounting an LRM20 with Artemis IV FCS as its main armament.
The highly advanced Suitel 3000 series communications module was added to the machine, allowing a quick transfer of targeting data from other mechs in the same unit and allowed the Damocles to engage the enemy at long range, using their LRM's in indirect fire. The system did not offer any significant advantages with overall targeting, but it turned the Damocles into a very dangerous foe, striking unexpectedly at enemy forces trying to ambush seemingly isolated mechs.
Although the Damocles was designed for long-range fighting it mounts a single medium laser for close defence and is capable of outrunning most other mechs and keep lighter machines at bay with its powerful LRM.
==Battle History:== The Damocles performed quite well during the Periphery uprising, although production never reached a suitable level. Only a handful of SLDF units had sufficient numbers of Damocles to constitute a rapid reaction force.
During the Amaris Civil War the Damocles distinguished itself in harassing all but the most powerful enemy mechs. Lance-sized units would patrol the main line of advance and provide support where necessary, much faster than any other support mech available at the time. Many Amaris troops were suddenly confronted by a torrent of LRM missiles raining down upon them from a distance while other SLDF mechs closed in for the kill.
A single lance of Damocles was available to Comguard forces and participated in the Tukayyid campaign, where they distinguished themselves in the fighting against Clan Ghost Bear, bringing down at least a Gladiator and a Kodiak and claimed nearly a dozen assist kills. Unfortunately two Damocles were lost in the process
==Deployment== Roughly 280 Damocles were produced before the Exodus. Many Damocles pilots felt they belonged to a special group because of their special purpose and popularity. Large numbers of joined Kerensky rather than betray their fellow SLDF soldiers.
Almost all remaining Damocles were lost during the 1st Succession war, where they were targeted by special fast attack lances equipped with fast mechs such as the Locust, Spider and Assassin. Unable to operate in large numbers, they were isolated and killed off, one by one.
Comstar deployed only a single lance of these mechs as the factory was badly damaged during the 1st Succession War and the cost involved was deemed to high to restart the factory.
The WOB conquest of Terra has changed this and Comstar recently finished retooling the factory and the first batch of 10 Damocles left the factory. One lance to be assigned to the Comguards, another to the Kungsarmee and 2 units to be sold on the open market. It is expected that production will reach roughly 120 units per year of which 20% will be available on the open market.

Not nearly as good as the Backstabber.
This is a Hollander with an LSR. A little faster. Mhmm. I donĀ“t like the LSR 20. And also the Artemis. How about 5 LSR 5 with 3 tons Ammo? Sounds interesting.
I prefer definitely the Backstabber.
