BattleTech Vehicle Technical Readout VALIDATED
Type/Model: Gouge G-1 Tech: Inner Sphere / 3062 Config: Hovercraft Rules: Level 2, Standard design
Mass: 50 tons Power Plant: 165 VOX Fusion Cruise Speed: 86,4 km/h Maximum Speed: 129,6 km/h Armor Type: Ferro-Fibrous Armament: 1 Heavy Gauss Rifle Manufacturer: (Unknown) Location: (Unknown) Communications System: (Unknown) Targeting & Tracking System: (Unknown)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== As the Fed Com civil war raged, whole units were being fed into the meatgrinder and replacements became increasingly harder to find. With mech productin stretched, Steiner designers rushed the Gouge heavy destroyer into service.
==Capabilities:== The Gouge is a simple vehicle, a fast destroyer tank, mounting a Heavy Gauss rifle.
Unfortunately this design hit upon a number of problems that were not solved before the end of the Civil War.
Due to shortages of Heavy Gauss Rifles, many Gouges had to be armed with regular Gauss rifles of AC20's, reducing their overall firepower.
And the few vehicles that did mount the Rifle found that the punishing recoil had a tendency to damage the tank, especially as it moved at high speeds. The original gun had been mounted in a gimball mount to give it limited elevation and traverse, but the hover tank could spin out of control if it fired at too wide an angle. Also when fired at elevation, the recoil would force the whole tank to slam into the ground.
Later models mounted the gun directly onto the chassis, reducing the punishing effects of the recoil, letting a fast-moving 50-ton mass absorb the shock, but crews still comment that the vehicle shakes unpleasantly when firing.
Most Gouge crews adopted hit and run tactics, moving at top speed towards a target, and shooting and veering off at the last moment, trying to shoot at short range, to maximise damage. Crews who try to stand and shoot generally are picked off from a distance.
==Variants:== One variant mounts a Gauss Rifle, while the other mounts an AC20 Ultra. Most have been modified, but a handful of crews have refused to let it be modified, adding a number of extra weapons such as lasers, flamers and rocket launchers.
==Deployment== Less than a hundred Gouges were available at the end of the FedCom civil war, and only about 10 of them were properly equipped. Most were retooled after the war and production is finally getting to acceptable levels.

Looks to me like someone 'fudged' the engine mass. Unfortunately I cannot for the life of me remember the mass of a 165 engine.... or whether it would be normal to mount a 165 fusion on a 50-ton chassis.

The engine mass is incorrect, as a 165 Fusion plant weighs 6 tons. Vehicles must add another 50% to the engine mass for shielding- bringing it up to a total of 9 tons.
Also, Hovercraft require 20% of their mass to be dedicated to their Engines...which means minimum Engine mass for a 50 ton Hovercraft is 10 tons.
Yea, verily. Let it be known far and wide that Nightward loathes MW: DA. Indeed, it is with the BURNING ANIMUS OF A THOUSAND SUNS that he doth rage against it with.

*Shrug*
The program is wrong, then. Have a look at the table for Vehicles in the BMR. The Lift Factor on a 50-tonner is 235, and Hovercraft must allocate 20% of their mass to their engines.
