------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
The Excalibur had proven its worth during the Star League era, but the
upgraded Clan version only made it deadlier.

==Capabilities:==
The Excalibur is a mobile long-range weapons platform. The IIC has refined it
into a potent fighting machine.

The main weapons remain the LRM20 with Artemis and Gauss Rifle, both provided
with plenty of ammo, which allows the Excalibur to last for all but the most
protracted fights.

The armour tonnage almost doubled, giving the Excalibur IIC real staying
power, with a well-provided anti-missile system for that extra edge.

While the Excalibur was already quite mobile, reaching almost 86 kph, the
added jump jets allow it to cross difficult terrain more easily and make
itself a harder target.

==Battle History:==
Being a second-line mech, the Excalibur has rarely been seen in the Inner
Sphere. Kurita toops faced a number of them in their war against Clan Ghost
Bear where it performed very effectively.

During one battle a DCMS C3-equipped mech company, supported by artillery,
infantry and light armour faced a Star made up of a Kodiak, two Grizzly's and
a pair of Excaliburs.

The fighting was brutal, and the Kuritans did win the engagement, with only
two battlemechs were still operational at the end of the battle.

So, Being a Clan design, is it safe to assume then that it's Carrying Clan Gauss rifle, Clan LRM20, and a LAMS, or is it waaay second line and using parts easily found and purchased from the occupation zone? Other than that, seems like a nice sniper design that would compliment the Bears Kodiaks...

You can find the original Excalibur in the TR3058 or in Rhonda's Irregulars. It's about the same, sans jump jets, less ammo and less armour. The Clans probably deploy both versions. And the IS Excalibur is back in production since 3058.

My personal Excalibur IIC used an ER PPC. This single alteration (along with Clan Endo and Ferro) allowed me to place a Standard Engine and add an extra Double Heat Sink.

Personally, I prefer the ammo independancy of the PPC against the Gauss Rifle, so long as heat is not a problem.

Your version of the Excalibur IIC looks more like a personalised configuration of the Summoner than a Clan redesigned Excalibur.

I kept the Gauss Rifle because it is the defining characterstic of this particular mech. The Clint IIC shows that some upgrades do have XL engines and given that Clans like speed I wanted to keep it mobile, but I ended up with so much extra space that I just added jump jets and room for better armour.

What the Clint IIC shows is what the Snow Ravens did to the design. They maintain few 'Mechs of any kind, preferring to have AeroSpace Fighters and WarShips instead. This means their 'Mech resources are tapped less often, and so they can afford to trick their machines out. The Clint really needs the XL engine, too- it's overladen with heavy weaponry. Personally, I'd have equipped my Clint IICs with Large Pulse Lasers or ER PPCs, but that's just me.

Nevertheless, the 'Mech still looks like a Summoner.

I would have added some secondary weapons- maybe switched the LRM rack for dual Artemised LRM-15s, given it some EW gear (an Active Probe would be favourite, because of the fighting range for the Excalibur) and maybe a couple of ER Mediums for up close. Jump Jets look really out of place on what is, after all, a fire support unit.
