The title of this forum is re Fourth Succession War, Thus Power Armor has yet to be established – only sneak suits.

However with power armour the question must be asked as how effective are they really – when considering that normal infantry must have been provided with multiple weapon systems to counter power armour – thus it is a question of who has the best weapons and at what range etc …..

When considering investing in worlds due to the damage received in combat best to remember Germany – Post WW1 and then Post WW2 …

Psy-Ops - Utilizing fear as a weapon is quite dangerous – will your forces go through with the treat? And if so how will this be utilized by your enemy in their propaganda?
It is difficult to comprehend what the future will be, also the reverse should be considered if assistance is provided will this provide good will towards to soldiers as they are now seen as liberators.

Katherine being given to the clans and not allowed a Trial - it is my belief the citizens of both the FWL and the DC will view Victors’ actions with shock and horror. As Victor has not allowed his sister a free and fair trial they will view him as being Tyrannical Dictator in this action … many may also view him as little sadistic in his actions.

I doubt any would see her as spoiled child – her actions have been carefully scripted to portray her as a capable and benevolent ruler.

Ares conventions - Indicate a shift in how war should be undertaken … all sides are scrambling to rebuild their military.

What is it the WOB really want? Legitimacy – accepted as a responsible member of the Star League – through acting as a proxy of the SLDF they can very easily obtain this!
In demonstrating their will, to stop a civil war, and to mediate peace between Brother and Sister in an attempt to save lives they will receive a great deal of good will from the majority of the IS people who still believe in the Star League and the SLDF.

WOB would believe by doing so this would then propel them to full membership within the new Star League.

Quote:
Really? What brought the houses into the SL? Greed, plain and simple.

Greed? …. Then what did each house get out of it?
They were not allowed to put their people into key SL portfolios as these went to Cameron family members and friends.
They were not allowed access to key technology.
Following the end of the reunification war was any house allowed to absorb any periphery state into their own – they believed it would be a land grab and the only one who got any was the Camerons.
Then the SLDF put their forces throughout their realm as a sword of Damocles above their head – literally – just look at the SL Navy base in the same system as their capitol world!
Face facts they became client states for the Cameron family …. The SL was a joke as far as the House Lords should have been concerned – they lost power even in their own realm!

Feudalism is a form of government – that does not work!

Magna Carta lives on and should have been in this far future even if was in a periphery state!

The government works for the rich, and the poor have to pay for it. – True

One could only have hoped this could have been fixed by 3025 …
Get thee to Coventry … Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious by this daughter of Tharkad … Our army shall march through. Well to New Avalon tonight.

Anything you can move with VTOLS, can be moved with shuttles, and done faster with the shuttles. Combat engineers, anti mech infantry, vehicles, even mechs. You do not need commandos in order to set up an ambush on the enemy forces. And there are so many times when infantry is deployed to slow down an enemy it isn't even funny. And let's not forget putting artillery spotters and some artillery itself into position with shuttles.

Not sure why Germany came up with investing in damaged worlds, as distance sets it apart from the IS. But if you want to try economic pressure, like investing in rebuilding worlds after you hit them, and causing the people to resent their leaders on planet x, then you could do that. Not as quick or efficient as forcing the enemy to deal with it, but it may still work.

Katherine was hated by the DC for her role in Omi's death. Even the Master did not want Katherine around, as she was more then capable of screwing up his plans without firing a shot. So no. The idea that other nations, and that everyone in the FC wanted Katherine in power is flawed. Yvonne would be more likely to be wanted to rule by other nations, as she was easier to deal with, especially threatening her. Thomas realized Katherine's action with causing the civil war after the strikes the FWL did with finding out Joshua's fate showed just how callous she was to her OWN people.

Ares conventions - Indicate a shift in how war should be undertaken … all sides are scrambling to rebuild their military.
This statement is completely out of time line. It came about around 2412. This was long before the fall of the SL and the succession wars.

The WOB wanted to rule the IS. That was Blake's doctrine and that is what the religious based WOB wanted. They wanted all to kneel before them. They were more committed to this then Comstar was.
The FC was the biggest threat to their organization, as it was the one that could resist their authority more then Comstar. The DC was their second biggest threat, as they were for Comstar, but one issue at a time. The CC needed WOB to help them rebuild and fend off the FC. If the FC suffered enough, then the FWL/WOB would have started taking border worlds and used the claim of keeping the people safe from the two power mad children of Hanse Davion. The CC would be indebted to WOB for helping them retake their worlds, and even more.

I said greed got the houses to join the SL accords. I did not say their greed was rewarded. ALL the houses joined as the SL dangled access to better tech in front of them. Each had more issues, and thought the SL would allow them to solve it with free stuff, and to secure their borders while they got things in order.

Feudalism is a form of government. When you can not respond to issues due to distances, you put people in power that are 'supposed' to look after your interests for you. The power of the position tends to cause those who are not dedicated to your cause, to view their power as deserved, and they want more. Kings of old used this to keep their people together and safe. But as always, someone corrupt gets into it and screws it all up.
The U.S. is a basic form of feudalism. Each state has their own government, which is supposed to serve the nation's government. They have the ability to make laws which the federal government can not, or has issues dealing with. Then each county and city has their own government. Each is reliant of the other to help keep things running smoothly. The elections is supposed to prevent the permanent seating of houses, but that is slowly being changed. We still have the ability to change it, but requires far more then what it used to.
A little deeper touching of real life has dictators being feudalism. Instead of senators, they have generals performing the same functions as the governors do. Only the general's orders are more strict in punishment for failure to follow them.

VTOLs Vs Shuttles – this is comparing apples with oranges – and as this forum is supposed to be set in 3025 onwards the Karnov UR Transport is the most appropriate. Utilizing a hub and spoke arrangement from base to forward positions. Then there is the Planet lifter that can lift a Warhammer (70 tons) in 15 minutes.

Given a shuttle has size and weight restriction of just over 60 tons? – then there is operating cost – maintenance cost – as well as opportunity cost forgone – it is best to replace shuttles with aerospace fighters.

Germany – George Santayana – “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

What was the outcome of Germany during these two periods? The same can be said with the Capellan Confederation worlds that are to be annexed by the Federated Suns. How are you supposed to integrate these worlds into the Federated Suns if they are constantly engaged in a civil war between those that have accepted the new order and those that desire a return to the old order – a wish that is transferred from one generation to the next – taught by parents to children and passed down through the ages.

Quote:
Katherine was hated by the DC for her role in Omi's death.

This was known to the royal family and a select member of individuals within the royal court and the ISF. The common people, however, would know nothing of this … that is unless you want the Black Dragon Society and all DCMS units under their sway to immediately attack the Lyran State – and in so doing destroy the new Star League and the new SLDF.

If the Master had any foresight he could have realized she could be a valuable ally – what is their short term aim after all – to become a member of the Star League – and who best would make that a reality – answer Katherine – then what was their army created for – the destruction of the clans – and who best would give that order to genocide them from the IS – answer Katherine.

In all reality Katherine is the lynchpin upon which the IS revolves around at a certain point in history – the problem is those who wrote the cannon story clearly did not grasp the nuances of the story they were creating …

Plus in all reality having Katherine as the Leader of the Lyran State and the Master as her Devils’ advocate whispering in her ear and the WOB as her attack dogs would have been a far more devilish story than that concocted …

Have a read through history, there are very interesting characters / situations such as this – Sir Francis Walsingham / Queen Elizabeth I of England – plus many others …

Yvonne was too weak to survive the great game … pitiful and inept … her death would cause division when unity was required …. Also she was how far down the line of succession thus necessitating how many above her to be removed?

No – Katherine is the right person at the right time in order to achieve the WOB’s immediate goals’ …

Quote:
Katherine's action with causing the civil war after the strikes the FWL did with finding out Joshua's fate showed just how callous she was to her OWN people.

Sorry, but this is the wrong interpretation of history …
First, Victor abandoned the FC to go swanning off to the Clan Home Worlds to paly warrior … such an action demonstrates that Victor is not a true ruler – when Katherine picked up the pieces of Victor’s stupidity it is clear for all to see SHE IS THE TRUE LEADER OF THE FC!

It was Victor who called for a Civil War not Katherine – it was Victor who picked up the sword of war first – further demonstrating his propensity for violent acts – also he (The Master) knew it was not Katherine who killed her brother as it was him and his agents who had engaged in this farce and not Katherine – he is alive and on his way for re-education! He knows, therefore, that Victor is using this for his own ends and that Katherine has nothing to do with it at all!

The Ares conventions is a shift in how war is to be waged – it indicates that war is to undertaken not to destroy but to be used as capture the flag … from that point on all Houses recognized that war is o be undertaken to capture intact) the enemies military industrial capabilities – not destroy it!

WOB – there are short term goals and then there are long term goals.
Short term
Become a Full member of the new Star League.
Eradicate the Clans.

Long term – into the hundreds of years – as how long has ComStar been in existence with the same goal?
Convert people to Blake – how easy would that be if they are viewed as the saviours of mankind from the Clans and not its destroyers?

It is quite clear no one really thought this through when writing the Canon story!

The FC is not a threat it is an opportunity – use it – use Katherine …

Stupidity is what got the House lords to join the original SL – where are the Lawyers with iron clad agreements as to each states powers / duties / what they get out of it?

Just look at the FWL – completely reneged upon the death of their ruler – at that point in time the FWL should have told Cameron to get lost and resigned from the SL as he completely reneged on the original agreement – an agreement that everyone within parliament should have known as his actions would have had to have been debated and discussed – thus he must have informed them all what is in it for the FWL to become the first member of the SL!

Feudalism – and a democratic prime minister per world cannot do the same thing?

Sorry but no Feudalism and Titles are from a by gone era – the only ones who want one are those who desire status above everything else The belief that humanity would take a step back is ridiculous – why would people give up their rights that their forbearers fought so hard to attain?

Feudalism - https://www.google.com/search?q=feudalis...me&ie=UTF-8

the dominant social system in medieval Europe, in which the nobility held lands from the Crown in exchange for military service, and vassals were in turn tenants of the nobles, while the peasants (villeins or serfs) were obliged to live on their lord's land and give him homage, labour, and a share of the produce, notionally in exchange for military protection.

USA is under this system?

Those who are stuck in the past, can not lead in the future. Learn from the past, but move on to deal with things in new ways, as new technology and opposing leaders come about.

The power armor statement was showing advanced ways of dropping troops from flight, instead of offloading on the ground. Katherine was not even though of at this time, so why was it brought up?
And as stated, the FWL and DC would have preferred Yvonne to Katherine any day of the week. They would be able to control Yvonne. Read the statement as typed, not add in your own words to change it entirely.
Look into the future, not sitting in the past.

Wrong interpretation of history? Only those in power thought that leaving the FS to fend for itself, after they had sent most of their jumpships and a good chunk of troops was a good thing. The population thought it was a complete betrayal. A few sided with the Archon, as they did NOT want the war on their worlds.

Again with the garbage of Victor starting the civil war. Katherine was acting like a spoiled little child dictator. She cared nothing about the masses, just her own power.

The titles of feudalism have been left behind, but the pyramid structure that allowed it to thrive still exists. There are many countries that have a president for life. What is that? Basically a king, just under a different name. But this is only getting further off topic.
I will answer why people would give up the rights of their fathers, and Katherine is a good example of this. They are told lies that sound great, so they would give up a little freedom for the promise of more to come. And after a while, they have given away so much, only to find out they were never going to gain from the agreement.

What do you think taxes are? You have to pay into the system, and hope you get something back. The congressmen do not get rich by helping the masses. You give up things like clean air and water, as the big companies don't want to spend money cleaning their messes up. Most just leave and declare bankruptcy so the governement, ie taxpayers, are stuck footing the bill. And the rich just create a new company and do the same thing. Sound like what happens under a feudal society?

Now back to the Behemoth idea. As the game only gives a few examples of shuttles, it is left to the players to come up with their own designs. And there is a shuttle craft known as a drop shuttle. 200 tons that has a docking collar that is used to deliver goods. So yeah. They should be able to outmaneuver a VTOL. The VTOL can be intercepted in flight, while the shuttle has the ability to avoid traveling klicks over terrain and come down from orbit and head back up.
They are also great for pulling units out of battle and off the planet.
They have a lot of potential. They are NOT the end all, or the best choice every time.

History provides an understanding of the world, our-selves and how people adapt to changes impose upon them by powers beyond their control …

Paratroopers are also dropped – HALO / LALO – it is just that with power-armour their survivability is greater.

In writing a good story you need to understand where you are progressing to … and how the unknowable twists and turns will excite, provide joy, sadness and anger when appropriate … and avoid being bland …

As for Yvonne her character must change completely, or she will be collateral damage as her character as is lacking all strength / determination …

Question how are two foreign powers going to control Yvonne?

As a leader of a House where does your duty lie? On the battlefield or within the capitol – as a soldier or as a statesman?

Victor shows that he is completely inept as a leader – his only saving grace is that he is a competent warrior.

This is not garbage it is historical fact!

Look at this from the point of view of the average citizen on the street and not as someone who knows the entire back story – therefore - Did any of the normal citizens know she craved power? Answer No they did not – she was incredibly beloved by the people – and not once did Victor provide proof as to her guilt – not before, not during and not after – then he sold his own sister into Clan bondage rather than allow her a fair trial … an act of absolute evil … from the point of vies of an average citizen ..

Have a look as some of the more successful countries ie Finland, Denmark, Switzerland … people are very happy as to their government and what they provide for the people … free education including university, free health-care, good laws societal pressure is reduced ….

Everything, therefore, within the game can be changed – I can create a supersonic VTOL utilizing a Mech engine in place of a shuttle … so year they can outmanoeuvre a shuttle.

The choice of military assets is dependent upon the person playing the game – we all have our favourites that we prefer to add into the game as well as those we never want to see in the game …

Power armor uses the same armor as mechs and vehicles or so it would appear. So the ability to take out an elemental can be used to take out a mech. Pop the head, and watch the mechwarrior die. This very reason is probably why they do NOT allow this. A good sniper can kill the enemy leader by sniping him inside a mech. This would mean the mech is NOT king of the battle field.

Still haven't seen a response about using Jump Infantry, jumping from a shuttle. The power armor came to mind as something for the future. In fact, power armor dropping from the air is how they took the 'invincible' fortress during the invasion. They were dropped in the one location that did not have defenses.

Still don't get the fact that the DC/FWL does NOT want an effective leader for the FC? They want someone that is predictable, and under educated in dealing with them. If this was happening, their need for the SL would not happen, as they would have the ability to take the FC by force. Let the clans chew them up, then start hitting them to bolster their defense. Take worlds far from the clan border, so as to let the FC move forces to the front.

Victor did not come back to retake the throne when he found out Katherine stole it. It was her constant tyranical actions that forced his hand. If Victor made one big mistake, it was not killing Katherine when he got back and found out what was going on.
And Katherine was not the beloved of the entire FC. Even in the LA, she was not accepted like presented. But when you are doing the rewrite, the entire concept of the FC would not come about, so this is absolutely moot.

The taxes comment was in response to the statement of what do people give to the government in order to be protected. It is correct that when the government is not failing to return that contribution, that things are done for the masses. But like a feudal society, people get into power and make sure that person gains, while the rest lose.

Supersonic VTOL with a mech engine? Any fusion powered unit is basically using a mech engine. So this does not make sense in the current form.
The term outmaneuvered was incorrect on my part. The atmosphere unit is more agile, but the shuttle can get into a safe area that land units can not reach.

Power Armor – problem is the amount of armour is limited due to the size of the machine and that it is effectively manoeuvred by the individual within the suit – as such their survivability is limited – infantry level weapons can have the ability to penetrate.

The Head of BattleMech, however, is designed to survive against mech level weapons – higher structural integrity – thus it should be able to survive against infantry level weapons – with the exception of anti-Mech level weapons that are specifically designed to be operated by infantry against ‘Mechs.

Shuttles and jump infantry – HALO or LALO – highest freefall parachute drop – Alan Eustace 41,422 meters (135,898Ft) thus can assume shuttle has this ability to place special forces in or out of power armour over target for this drop.

FWL/DC – leader for the FC

Consider the time they are in – The new Star League is in its infancy due to the Clan invasion – what is required is not a weak and inefficient leader as this could lead to the domino effect once the Clans resume their war. What is required is a strong leader who will go the distance and do what is required to win against the Clans.

Napoleon said it best – “What I fear is not a competent enemy, what I fear is an incompetent ally.”

That is the new Star League Military must have competent allies who can support each other in war – and to achieve this will require a competent FC leader.

Time to face the fact that the only true leader for the FC at this time is Katherine! Victor is off trying to be a MechWarrior he is NOT being the head of a government for an IS House!

The moment Victor departed the IS for Clan Space he virtually gave up his right to being the Head of the FS – Katherine did not steal the Throne, Yvonne gave it up to Katherine! Victors error in deciding to place Yvonne as regent shows that he did not know what he was doing – she never had the ability to be the sole leader of a house – he could have very easily placed a triumvirate as co-regents – one from House Sandoval, one from House Hasek and one from House Davion-Steiner

Which quite clearly demonstrates that Victor is incapable / inept when it comes to being the Head of a House.
Whereas Katherine quite clearly demonstrates that she is VERY capable to run a house.

Also, where is Katherine being a Dictator? Her entire public image was very carefully created, by her and her public relations team is to paint her as a benevolent and caring leader! So as far as the public is concerned she is a VERY capable and caring Leader to looked after their welfare and was doing an excellent job at it!

It was only those lords who crossed her that came to see the gauntlet below the velvet glove – and in an feudalistic era this is expected to be normal behaviour by a King / Queen / Leader of the FC House! This is how a government within the IS operates – How many times was Hanse Davion put in a situation where one of his planetary leaders went rouge against their people and he was not able to do anything militarily – so he resorted to exactly the same tactics that Katherine used to resolve the issue! So no, the actions of Katherine were quite normal for a ruler within the IS and can in no way be seen as dictatorial.

The problem of people not liking her are those who prefer the idea of a warrior on the throne to those who prefer a statesman on the throne – this is just the same as between two different ideologically different political parties (ie. Democrat / Republican) yet were taken to extremes that resulted in civil war all because one party head (who had no proof at all) called for civil war (Victor).

So yes Victor is to blame – his ineptitude as Head of the FC resulted in all of this transpiring – if he had remained within the IS and had not decided his place was on the battlefield none of this would have occurred!

Victor is an incredibly inept and incompetent leader of IS House and quite frankly the IS was a better place not to have him on the throne!

Allowing people power will always result in discrepancies – George Orwell – Animal Farm.

Not so – providing a VTOL craft with appropriate engineering capabilities it will have exactly the same reach to land anywhere a shuttle can – the only difference is the shuttle can proceed into the vacuum of space.

Normal rifles can affect and penetrate mech armor. Otherwise, the actual damage to mechs from them would be 0, not based on the units size. This is not saying normal rifles are very efficient at it, just that they can hurt it. That is the same with vehicle armor as well.

What is the fixation of Spec ops? ANY infantry unit, including combat engineers can be dropped in the same fashion. And not sure why you believe that heavier weapons can not be dropped with theses units. Today's armies can drop tanks and such from flying units. There is nothing saying you can't do like HALO and haul a tank outside of the craft, and then load up the crew when it touches down.
As long as the weight doesn't prevent the unit from flying, almost anything is possible with this.

The military leaders, not the archon, is what will fight the clans. Once that is done, then the fight to remove the FC from being powerful comes about, and it helps when the Archon-Prince is unable to deal with the political pressures and other things the others can do. Even Comstar would be involved in weakening them. WOB would be more then happy to remove them as a threat. The SL will function even if the FC is broken up into many smaller pieces. Each being that much easier to manipulate then the whole.
The best scenario for the FWL/DC and CC would be the clans rip into the LC, and force even more troops to be sacrificed in order to stop this, meaning that when the clans are stopped, the others can annex territories without much of a problem. The SL is only as good as those running it. Who is going to stop the three from dividing up the FC?
And having the FC in bad economic shape means getting worlds in exchange for help. Sounds like something Katherine would do to them. Hmmmm...

The only true leader is one you support. Victor went off to deal with the clans as he figured that was the greatest threat to the entire IS, not just the FC. Katherine saw it as a chance to divide up the nation. It wasn't anything noble, just the chance to increase her power. But oh well.
This is not saying Victor would have been a great leader had he stayed. He was learning, though a little later then he should have. He was given extra time by mom. Oh yeah. Katherine had her killed, otherwise her rise to power would never have come about.. Great leader...

one from House Sandoval, one from House Hasek and one from House Davion-Steiner
This shows a lack of understanding of the political issues at that time. The example is having 3 leaders from the FS put in power, leaving the LC portion to have no representation. That would have been worse then having the 2 family members running the show. Try a little harder next time.

The public image was not how she did things in private. Not sure why this has to be explained. She was a power mad person that used her position to punish ANYONE that annoyed her in the least. Not just crossed her, but even questioning the use of that power to hurt anyone she felt like.
The fact that she 'accepted' Yvonne handing over the FS portion, then not releasing it to Victor when he returned shows it was a ploy. That is when everyone found out the true face of Katherine. But again, oh well.
Oh yeah. Most seemed to prefer Yvonne over Katherine. It was only Katherine's manipulation of the media that caused Yvonne to question it all. Remember this when trying to say the FWL/DC would not want her on the throne. They could well do the same thing.

I guess I have to spell everything out. Space is the safe area no land unit can reach. Also, a shuttle does not have to be specially built in order to perform. Any shuttle can be used. By the way, you can put weapons on a shuttle so the VTOL does not have a huge advantage there.

With all the worlds having the ability to rebuild their forces instantaneously, the succession wars would never have ended. But with the scope of what has been in the topic, the CC would have ceased to exist long before the 3rd war started. Given the size of the FWL and FS, they could well have moved forces from worlds in order to perform the 4th war blitz and removed it from the game. The idea to partner up with the LC would have come sooner, and given the Archons of old, a better reason to join up before they did. Having someone help hit the FWL and DC would have given them an edge sooner, and without Walterly coming about, would have been even closer to running the IS. Granted, WOB or anyone else in power at the time would have seen that as the end to Blake's vision, so may well have turned Comstar against them sooner. So with this conclusion you have, the issues in 3025 would be far different then what they were in canon. The decline in technology probably wouldn't have happened, and it is possible the clans would have had to attack sooner or never.

Basic training would be wild if it included jump-training from 41.4Km …
Also there is only so much an infantry unit can carry – though as far as most officers go this is debateable point.

Why did the second Star League dissolve? Yvonne Steiner Davion - Vote of no-confidence due to financial reasons when the Clan threat is still alive and well … which again proves how inept a leader she was, when she believed only in self-interest.

Destroying the FC will only bring about the destruction of the IS – ALL Houses must maintain both a strong government and military at this stage … to remove one will lead to destruction of all … an economically poor FS will only cause deterioration to the Star League as a whole.

The best scenario is to increase the SLDF – and this can easily be achieved through the introduction of the WOB’s military and technology.

What could have happened if Katherine, rather than seeking assistance from the Clans, she asked assistance from the WOB? What if her intelligence organisation worked out that due to the fact there was no body of her brother (due to the explosion) that he has been kidnapped by the WOB and in all probability was still alive – so in exchange for her agreement to make the WOB a full member of the Star League they return her brother from the grave – This will then undercut Victor’s righteous indignation as well as destroy his allies as to the reason he started the Civil War – it would also propel Katherine’s political standing within the FC above that of a now disgraced Victor.

If the Clans were the greatest threat to the Inner Sphere then why did the Star League initiate operation Serpent and Bulldog when they did?

If the Clans are such an existential threat, then the entire 15 year truce must be observed for R&D as well as the rebuilding of the new SLDF – both on land and as Naval force – the entire clan weapon systems must be reverse engineered by the IS in order to ensure the weapons gap no longer exists – omni mechs / fighter Regiments / Wings and power armour infantry Regiments are required to established - the idea of attacking when they did shows a complete and utter stupidity that goes beyond understanding!

Quote:
one from House Sandoval, one from House Hasek and one from House Davion-Steiner
This shows a lack of understanding of the political issues at that time.

LC – governed by Katherine.
Hasek – Kym Sorenson (Morgan’s Wife) - She is more than capable of assisting Yvonne if needed.
Sandoval – James Sandoval (Problem with regards to Kurita) or Tancred or even his wife could have been considered.
So there are issues if James is one of the three, however, Kym and James would assist Yvonne to maintain the FS throne for Victor … so no real problem at all.

Quote:
The public image was not how she did things in private. Not sure why this has to be explained. She was a power mad person that used her position to punish ANYONE that annoyed her in the least. Not just crossed her, but even questioning the use of that power to hurt anyone she felt like.

Problem is the PUBLIC only knew her as a benevolent leader!
They did not know the real person – thus she was loved by the people!

Quote:
The fact that she 'accepted' Yvonne handing over the FS portion, then not releasing it to Victor when he returned shows it was a ploy.

Victor was a failed leader he abandoned his throne, he proved himself unfit a ruler by leaving the is FOR Clan Space! – it was in the best interest of the FC to have a leader that would put the FC first – as such Katherine is well within her right to assume control.

Quote:
Space is the safe area no land unit can reach.

Except from enemy aerospace fighters, enemy shuttles, and enemy Dropships, similar to the Vampire Class!

Quote:
Also, a shuttle does not have to be specially built in order to perform.

Except is you want a VTOL shuttle that can carry a 100 ton Tank, then they will have to be specially ordered – that is unless you want to a runway built close to every battlefield to enable them to land.

Quote:
you can put weapons on a shuttle so the VTOL does not have a huge advantage there.

That is unless you have two specialist VTOLs one as transport the other as security overwatch escorts – V-22 Osprey / Black Hawk– Harrier Conventional aircraft – Apache VTOL … (and in all probability the cost of which still would not equal that of a shuttle)

Yes the IS would look vastly different if you use rational thought and actually used each Houses military and technology correctly – the idea that each Houses technology has been destroyed would not have occurred – thus in all likelihood the IS should have progressed to the Omni prior to that of the Clans – stealth Mechs would be a more common sight on the battlefield … Their fleets would also have been incredibly vast.

The CC could have survived longer than it should have (as by the end of the 3039 war the CC should no longer exist) – decreased area – indicates a stronger logistics chain – if they still have multiple hidden shipyards they could have easily repelled most attacks with aerospace fighter carrier squadrons rather than relying on a strong Army.

ComStar would also have never become secular – they would have become a massive conglomerate with vast economic power within all the houses – thus they could have become a true capitalist in that to gain control they believed that they should just purchase a controlling interest in each House.

The possibilities for making each universe different is as far as you want to take it.

Let's see. Yvonne pulled out because the FS was having financial issues. The LA was happy to place the FS in that position, despite the fact that the FS did what it could to stop the clans, and Nondi, being in charge of the LC military, decided to basically follow Katherine and take all the transports sent with units. This is pure theft, so pulling out to prevent the FS from economic failure sounds about right. The CC did not even send anything to help stop the clans, though the FWL made a prime deal for them to get funding while supplying the refit packs. I guess that makes her stupid...

By the way, you do know of mechanized infantry? And Vehicles that are part of that infantry as well as combat support for them? The same infantry that had held back mech units for days with no outside help from other units in the past. Also air drops do exist in the game, though I guess not in your vision.

The idea of making reagents to run the regions of the FC, the LC/LA would have had a representative from each march have a representative. Otherwise, the FS looks weak to the LC.
And Katherine was not bestowed archonship, she took it when she left with the LC.
Well I guess having those helping Yvonne, should not have been asked by Victor, but Yvonne.

The public knew of her dark side. Wether they believed the truth being told to them is another story.

So Yvonne putting the FS first is bad, but but when Katherine abandoned the entire IS by leaving with Vlad was not? Her destabilizing the entire FC with her power grab, was not?

Except from enemy aerospace fighters, enemy shuttles, and enemy Dropships, similar to the Vampire Class!
Are any of these ground units?

A shuttle that can carry 100 tons of cargo is not limited to just moving mechs or tanks. They can move cargo from orbit, such as unloading or loading a Behemoth. Not sure if imagination is out of this discussion.

Not sure why you suggest the enemy has counter measures for shuttles, but wouldn't have any against VTOLs. The VTOLs are more likely to be found and engaged then shuttles. That does not mean they are invisible or immune to counter attack, just that they are harder to engage with anything that is bound to the atmosphere or lower.

Stealth armor was not around in 3025. So that is moot.

Nondi Steiner – Died – 2 April 3067 – killed by Peter Steiner Davion
Peter Steiner-Davion – declared Archon – 24th April 3067

Prior to the disbandment of the Star League Katherine was handed over to Vlad (Vlad Wolf).

Second Star League Disbanded – 28 November 3067

So Katherine had nothing at all to do with the problem … and for the LA to be happy about the Sate of affairs within the FS this would mean that Peter was in charge and he agreed to do nothing to assist Yvonne and the FS.

Which shows the whole family is completely dysfunctional and has absolutely no real Political leaders within the Family except for Katherine!

At this stage one had to wonder as to their upbringing of the Steiner-Davion children as not one of them could be said to be normal – all of them were quite abnormal with massive psychological problems!

Quote:
would have had a representative from each march have a representative

Sorry but no – this is why you pay comstar to send a priority message backwards and forwards – as long as communication is maintained there is absolutely no problem!

And looking weak to he LC is a non issue as Katherine cannot invade militarily – as I would hurt her image.

Also Katherine was the Archon.

Quote:
The public knew of her dark side.

How?

Quote:
Yvonne putting the FS first is bad

Absolutely … the threat of the Clans was still in effect – just because one of the clans had been destroyed did not reduce the threat from all the remaining clans … which demonstrates her complete ineptitude at understanding political reality … it would be like one of the Members of NATO calling for its disbandment, even though Russian military is being rebuilt, re-armed and the number of Regiments was on the increase ….

Quote:
Katherine abandoned the entire IS by leaving with Vlad

Vlad demanded of Victor that he hand over Katherine or he would start a war – so Victor gave her to Vlad. Katherine had no say whatsoever in this transaction between these two people.

Thus Katherine had no say in the destabilization of the IS with the destruction of the Second Star League – wich is the same as saying that NATO should be dissolved ….

Sorry but this point in the story makes absolutely no sense whatsoever with the disbandment of Star League and the SLDF.

Quote:

When discussing Shuttles entering into space, as a safety measure, yes these are of importance – that is unless ground units have SAMs that can track a aerospace fighter / shuttle into space to kill it off.

Caro / logistics is of vital importance why transfer it down to planet piecemeal when a dropship is safer and more secure for long term objectives?
VTOLS and Shuttles are equally volatile to attack ….

Stealth armour in an alternate universe where technology was never lost would still be available in the far future …

Issue: After conducting a full audit of a House’s entire world – then transferring the information to a map with a series of coloured dots to represent the different importance of a world to the House it quickly becomes evident that given the House’s remaining forces available the majority of the House’s planets will go undefended by ‘Mech forces. This in turn means that the majority of battles upon these “second and third” rate worlds by frontline units becomes an almost impossibility unless someone was lucky enough to assign the correct military force prior to a raid – which is quite unlikely as there really isn’t anything on these worlds worth guarding to being with.

This in turn means that the majority of any Houses worlds would remain completely undefended from invasion by Mech forces – and if an invasion did occur then the closest force would have to have transport (Jump-ships) prior to disembarking for this world that is currently under attack – and even if they did reach the world in question the opposing force would have done their math prior to the invasion and known when to retreat – thus providing them with a window of opportunity from which to operate.

That is unless the world in question has a sizeable conventional force from which to defend the planet.

So is there a form of détente between Houses in order to maintain the border and the status quo? Lest there be multiple constant raids on both sides against these worlds of little to real importance?

Thus the war ….

Whilst the AFFS and the LCAF engage in multiple raids and probing strikes along the Draconis Combine and Free Worlds Border in an attempt to disguise / pin down their main armies whist the true targets of invasion begin planetary invasion.

For all military units formed within the IS there must be three levels of tactical branches attached to their Military High Command.

First – those with BattleMechs - whose role it is, is to engage and defend primary worlds whose importance is also garrisoned by other BattleMech Units.

Then there is the Second “Regular” forces whose duty is to engage other Regular forces, of an opposing House through conventional forces, and upon those worlds considered of a lesser importance - these units can be as small as a combined arms company when necessary.

Finally Mercenary units – to which, can be used in a garrison force or as part of an assigned unit or acting on their own.

The scope of any invasion fleet, of which, is limited by the fleet size each House possesses …

The Next Big question is how does the AFFS garrison a primary / secondary important world that has been captured, while at the same time continuing with the war - as any garrison force is limited and therefore vulnerable for counterattack by the CCAF?

However, if they do counterattack from an adjacent world this will leave their previous garrison world vulnerable for attack at the same time … also, could this be part of the plan – attack a world the adjacent world sends in reinforcements – thus in a weakened state the AFFS attack?

Any war, therefore, in a space setting with limited forces on both sides will quickly enter the prisoner’s dilemma as to the movement of available forces …. If you move your forces, you will make something vulnerable – so what you exchange your garrison world for must be worth more than what you potentially could lose in the future due to a possible counter attack.

It is, therefore, extremely important to have mobile forces that can move, at ‘a moment’s notice’, and that can defend a large area of space to ensure the safely over multiple primary worlds – the concept of Marine forces (upon ships) not Army forces (within land based garrisons) are therefore the most important form of Garrison forces any House should maintain when they have limited forces and a vast number of worlds to defend – and even this strategy cannot be considered perfect as a unit cannot be in two places at once. As your forces in space are now utilized to cover a wide area of space from any threat.

OR

Could the objectives stated previously between two rival Houses, in a state of war, be in error from the start?

So, rather than territory as the prize – that could be garrisoned by your regular conventional forces – should the aim be the elimination enemy ‘Mech Units?

That is, AFFS Mech Unit are utilised, rather than to take key worlds, they are utilised to find and eliminate enemy ‘Mech units with the aim of once all are destroyed a mop up action can then be undertaken once an area is made clear of all enemy ‘Mech forces.

Thus the metric changes from Worlds to ‘Mech Units

What this also represents is the rise and use of Hunter Killer Mech Units from a certain period of time …

Thoughts?

So does your analysis show you what was said about canon not having the huge numbers of troops that could be moved around without any concerns?
It is fact that in order to garrison worlds with any sort of mech units, they would be lucky to have a lance. The important worlds tend to get RCTs.
This ratio is partly why the CC has survived as long as it has as well as why the other states have been in an on going seesaw war to change the borders.
And it should also explain why the FS had to be careful of how many of it's troops were sent to the clan border.
If not for the CC being duped thru Michal Hasek being dupe, the 4th war could not have been so successful. The CC was able to shift troops around a little easier, as the FS had to be leery of return strikes against worlds in return.

This also seems to come to the conclusion that to adequately garrison a world requires so many troops, that without some thing like the world surrendering, including partisans for the most part, when the capital falls, there could be no way in order to suggest a victory.
And normal troops do not have the skills to do so effectively. Special training is required, otherwise the victorious troops tend to discriminate against those they conquered.

I believe it is why games do not deal with this aspect much. If it did, then any sort of conquest becomes moot, as you can not hold those worlds. With this said, the destruction of worlds that do not have anything needed to continue a war, was seen as a good thing, as it meant not having to leave numbers of units in order to keep the world from assisting the enemy.

Considering the considerable conventional forces a single high population / high SIL (A or B) world can maintain within my new universe – the idea that individual Houses must still utilize Canon level forces becomes a ridiculous concept due to the amount of forces required for just one planetary invasion target.

It is therefore necessary, as this is an alternate universe to completely disregard Canon and allow for a more appropriate level of forces when it comes to invading another House.

It also allows for a far greater story - due to the battles complexity this will allow for any individual team a greater story by which they can play the game …

As for the Clan Border – the Canon Fourth Succession War and the Twenty Year Update (now reduced in scope for the Clan invasion) indicating each Houses available forces - clearly demonstrates that the Canon story is about as believable as a cat flap in a nuclear submarine!

Quote:
If not for the CC being duped thru Michal Hasek being dupe, the 4th war could not have been so successful.

Sorry but this is clearly not completely accurate – there are many other factors that must be considered – including the two spies Hanse placed so close to Capellan intelligence. However, the most successfully element that allowed the AFFS to succeed was the Capellan’s own unwillingness to evolve as a state – their own culture and military dogma undermined their ability to respond – inter branch rivalry between regular and Warrior House did not help …

It also did not help that he Capellan military were not as experienced as that of the AFFS.

In order for a world to surrender – all regular forces must be eliminated or retreat off world – capturing the capital and the ruling individual may help if the military retreats off world at the same time, thus it is dependent upon the military commander’s response to this capture.

Quote:
victorious troops tend to discriminate against those they conquered.

This statement is dependent upon individual prejudices, their culture as well as the training regular forces undertake – it is also dependent upon each Officer’s ability to control the forces under their command.

Only through having a vast regular military force can any House maintain an adequate garrison upon the number of worlds they have conquered – as without an adequate garrison per world the newly conquered world would just revert to their former House – especially if they send military forces to retake a world that is now completely undefended.

Try considering the massive number of worlds within any House – ALL of these worlds must have some degree of conventional military in which to defend the planet for their respective House.

When planets have populations in the billions and at the same time they have an adequate technological base then it is quite logical to hypothesize that their conventional regular military forces must also have a vast military force … consider USA, Russia, China etc consider their population, technology and the size of their military forces … ie. A leads to B leads to C … in order for this not to be viable each of these worlds would have to circa 1920’s – 30’s or there about … as with 1940’s we get atomics, jets, the beginning of ICBM missiles (circa 1959 onwards) … then consider the size of military forces during WW2, Korean War etc …

Thus to say that each of these planets does not contain a military force upon tense levels is quite beyond the ludicrous …. The only way for each world to have small military forces is if each world has a very small population and a very small industry base!

Which again demonstrates that the Clans CANNOT EVER adequately garrison a highly populated world without the use of fear tactics … orbital bombardments …. The idea that a trinary per world as an adequate garrison force is again beyond ridiculous … as any more than this and their ability to continue the war beyond the half way mark to Terra comes under doubt and even with this amount the maximum any clan can reach is the three quarters mark …

Sorry to say but the Clans and the Clan Invasion War just does not muster up to scratch when it comes to establishing a good story.

A new Duchy of Oriente

In the final decade of the 30th Century (2990 to 3000) the Protectorate was formed from six worlds that originally part of the Duchy of Oriente – during the reign of Grand Duke Robin Halas:

Emris IV - (SIL-A)
Fuentes
McKenna - SL era Fort Corregidor
New Delos – 3025 Population 2.1 Billion – (SIL-D)
Nova Roma – Agrarian World – breadbasket world
Sophie’s World

These worlds were transferred to the control of Anton Marik, younger brother to Captain-General Janos Marik – this, in all probably, occurred when he was promoted to the rank of General in the year 2991.

Even when the Fusiliers of Oriente are one of the most effective units in the Free World’s League Military and never using the Home Defence Act to avoid federal service.

Then following the end of Anton’s revolt in April 3015 with his death at he hands of Wolf’s Dragoons Janos still did not return these worlds to the Duchy.

Even as the Fusiliers assisted in the war against Anton!

If you observe the Duchy map between this period and 3025 you will also recognise that additional worlds were lost to the Halas Family …

Kiyev.
Elektrougli.
Dalton – 3025 Population 2.765 Billion – (SIL-B) – Dropship Manufacture: Condor & Communications. Electronics.
Kyeinnisan – The Gambler’s World – Casinos.
New Praha – abandoned.
Jaszbereny – abandoned.
Sappho – abandoned.
Lukla - abandoned
Aodh - abandoned
Ipswich.

A total loss of 16 worlds …

The power and prestige of Grand Duke Halas – and the Halas family is now reduced to 15 worlds (Less than half that of Duchy in 2990) and even with the addition of Anegasaki.

Then we are supposed to believe that Christopher Halas is one of Captain General Thomas Marik’s strongest supporters when the Marik family reduced their power and prestige of the Halas Family …

Really? In a Feudalistic society … the Lord of the Realm reduces the political and economic (casinos and Dropship equate to massive amounts of revenue (taxes) that is the provided to the Halas family)power of one of his most important Ducal Families and there is no payback?

Within my previous forum: Alt. History Operation Rat Revival – The Capellan’s Fall War (3039-40) and the new FC Capital World

I proposed that with the start of the first wave Price Hanse Davion would transmit a communication to all mercenary commands within Capellan Space – Informing them to not get involved – an amnesty for any mercenary unit that remains upon their contact world / their contract will be transferred to the Federated Commonwealth, however, if they do commit to battle with the Federated Commonwealth the AFFS will respond ... exterminating the mercenary unit.

At the same time, I postulated that Hanse would live up to his name sake and provide an offer to the Duchy of Andurien and the Magistracy of Canopus alliance– to open a second front where any worlds they capture they can keep.

With this new information, as noted above, I would now suggest Hanse would expand this offer to Duchy of Oriente and the Halas Family rather than in the war of 3039 he would enact this plan now during the start of the 4th Succession War …. as a means of regaining their Houses lost prestige …

For the first time, would the Halas family enact the Home Defence Act, avoid federal service, and cross the border to stab their hated Capellan enemies in the back?

As quite frankly – would the Halas family have accepted the idea of a Liao, Kurita, Marik alliance?

Not only would it restrict FWLM adventurism along the Lyran Border, this could also potentially reduce available forces within the Terran Corridor and at the same time open a second front within the Capellan borders - thus restricting the number of forces the CCAF are able to utilize as a counterattack against the AFFS first attack wave.

All it takes is for Hanse to be the Devil’s advocate …a win-win for those involved …possible first wave targets could therefore include …

Magistracy of Canopus – Economic benefits …

Ward – SIL-C Population 1.573 Billion – Commerce.
Turin – SIL-C Population 3.267 Billion – Horticulture.
Barras – Population 3.492 Billion – Commerce – Free-port.
Egress – SIL-C Population 2.835 Billion – Commerce.

Duchy of Andurien – Military and Economic benefits …

Betelgeuse – SIL-B Population 3.792 Billion – Majority of Liao luxury & consumer goods – Vehicles, Behemoth, Demolisher, Schrek PPC Carrier, Scorpion, Zhukov – Laser weapons manufactory plant.
Wright –40% of all Capellan pharmaceuticals etc.
Sigma Mare – Population 2.861 Billion – Commerce – geophysical / terraforming research.
Shiba – SIL-C Population 2 Billion – Commerce.
Principia – Population 3.276 Billion – Commerce.
Altorra – SIL-C Population 1 Billion – Commerce.
Westerhand – SIL-C Population 1 Billion – Commerce.

Duchy of Oriente

Boardwalk – Possible BattleMech Construction plant – Firebee.
Bithinia – SIL-B Population 3.298 Billion – Resort World, Mining & Smelting, Artillery Long Tom and Thumper, AC5 and AC20.
Ingersoll – SIL-B Population 3.389 Billion – Economically powerful world mining gold and silver – Aerospace military base and training facility – Vehicle Manufacturing – Behemoth, Demolisher, Schrek, Scorpion, Bulldog, Manticore.
Kashilla – SIL-C Population 1.813 Billion – Commerce.

Makes for a very interesting scenario …
