Good evening, ‘Mech fans! This is not Duncan Fisher, but now that I’ve mentioned his name you’re imagining the rest of this article in his voice, which was my plan all along.

The greatest competition in MechWarrior Online history concluded at Mech_Con 2017. This year’s World Championship finals was a fantastic display of skill from the best MechWarriors the world has to offer. Everyone was playing at the top of their game, and there were some real nail-biters that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats.

While the preliminary rounds were all posted on the Piranha Games Twitch channel, this year’s finals have been posted to YouTube for everyone to enjoy. Also unlike the preliminaries, things were a bit different for the finals. The top three teams played a double-elimination tournament, meaning once a team loses twice they’re out of the running.

Each of the top three teams came to play in the grand finals, and absolutely no punches were pulled.

So without further adieu, here are your MechWarrior Online World Championship Finals!

Incredible accolades must be given to EON Synergy, who played more games on a grueling schedule than either of their opponents. I remember seeing Synergy players running from center stage to use the bathroom or get something to eat before dashing back to play another round. Kudos to you, EON Synergy, and congratulations on your second place finish.

And of course, congratulations to EmpyreaL on their second consecutive MechWarrior Online World Championship victory. While EmpyreaL may have been able to steamroll over their competitors last year, this time they had to really fight for their first place finish, proving the absolutely have the fortitude to be two-time champions in the best game in town. Congratulations again, EmpyreaL!

World Champs

If you’re looking for a closer look at the names behind the ‘Mechs, check out each team’s in-depth profile on PGI’s website. The top three finishing teams, 228th Black Watch, EON Synergy, and EmpyreaL, were all photographed and even shared some amusing stories from their time in Vancouver.

We here at Sarna hope you enjoyed this year’s tournament, and hope next year’s is bigger and better than ever. So long for now ‘Mech fans.
