After Khan Alaric Ward took the vast majority of Clan Wolf's touman to Terra, the Wolf Empire was left almost totally defenseless. To remedy this Star Colonel Othar took the control of all the Empire's resources and created two new Galaxies: Lupus Galaxy and Rufus Galaxy. The two units were designed to work in concert, with Rufus Clusters garrisoning key planets and Lupus clusters serving as a mobile reserve to reinforce worlds when attacked.[1] The 103rd Wolf Garrison Cluster was assigned to Rufus Galaxy.[2]
The 103rd was stationed on Tongatapu. On 22 February 3152, the world was invaded by the Free Worlds League's Task Force Accord. The 103rd accosted the invaders' landing zone near Lake Kanatea, engaging them into hit-and-run attacks, refusing to stand and fight. The 103rd was ultimately unable to hold out long enough for their Lupus Galaxy counterpart to reinforce them, and the cluster was forced to retreat deeper into Empire territory on March 11th. [2]
