History[edit]
Formation[edit]
The First Fronc Cuirassiers were formed by the Fronc Reaches in order to provide additional defense. To attract troops, they promised land and property to dispossessed MechWarriors and small mercenary commands.[2] Derek's Devils and the other former mercenaries came together and started training on the landhold of Colonel Derek Hudsenn. There they developed their small-unit tactics, with an eye to repelling pirate raids. Enough MechWarriors had arrived to build a second battalion.[3]
In 3085 elements of the 1st Fronc Cuirassiers were primarily stationed across Rockwellawan and Portland,[4] but they also had lances stationed on several other nearby worlds for additional defense.[3] By 3088 however the entire unit was based on Rockwellawan.[5] This wasn't useful however, as Calderon's Commando pirate unit landed on the world in force and destroyed the Cuirassiers base and the Sentinelry Academy. The First couldn't stop the pirates as they had deployed around the Interstellar Agriculture plant on the world. At the plant, the First was more successful, driving off the Commando and allowing them to escape with documents that would later lead the pirates into a trap.[6]
The lessons learned by the First during the Jihad would shape their organization and tactics in the thirty-second century; by 3145 the individual sub-commands had been dissolved, and the First had instead organized itself around mixed small formations consisting of a single BattleMech, a pair of tanks, an infantry platoon and a single aerospace fighter. These formations then operated independently, most often on the worlds of McEvans' Sacrifice and Portland.
