History[edit]
Defection from the LCAF[edit]
On 24 June 3148, the Timbuktu Collective announced both its secession from the Lyran Commonwealth and that the Florida TTM had defected to join the Collective Armed Guards as the First Timbuktu Guards. At the time, the unit was stationed in the former Explorer Corps base on Halifax. The precise circumstances of the Firsts' desertion from the LCAF were unclear at the time, with some reports suggesting the defection was peaceful while others indicated that a firefight had broken out inside the unit and that a small force of Commonwealth loyalists had escaped into the surrounding wilderness. Whatever the true story, the First was reduced to one third of it's prior strength by the time it enlisted with the secessionists.[1]
Battle of Sapienza[edit]
In January 3151, an unusually large and well equipped band of pirates conquered the Lyran world Sapienza. Upon learning of this from a merchant JumpShip that had passed through the system, a Battalion of the First jumped into the system and offered the world their assistance on the condition that Sapienza permit itself to be annexed. Planetary leadership quickly agreed, and the Guards executed combat drops on the largest concentrations of bandit forces. Very few of the marauders managed to escape the First's judgement. The victory on Sapienza secured more than a wealth of salvage: it also netted the Collective three new worlds when nearby Kladnitsa and Firenze elected to seek Timbuktuan protection. The groundswell of recruitment in the aftermath of the victory allowed for the CAG to create a sister unit for the First, the Second Timbuktu Guards.[2]
