History[edit]
Immediately prior to the Clan Invasion the green-ranked 283rd Division, then a mu-based formation referred to by the nickname of the Waveforms, was assigned to the Ninth Army and was headquartered on the Federated Commonwealth world of Summit.[1]
Battle of Tukayyid[edit]
Along with the rest of the Tenth Army, during the Battle of Tukayyid the 283rd faced the fearsome threat of Clan Wolf. As the Wolves advanced toward the 166th and 278th Divisions positions at outside the hamlet of Forest's End, the 283rd was the first Com Guard unit to engage the Wolves, preventing Alpha Galaxy's Fourth Wolf Guards from encircling and trapping the 166th and 278th despite their inexperience.[2][3][4]
After ComStar Schism and Operation BULLDOG[edit]
Like many Com Guard Divisions, the now regular rated 283rd Division chose a new nickname after their efforts against Wolves on Tukayyid, calling itself The Wolf Lords. Rebuilt as a IV-pi based formation, the 283rd became the command division of the Tenth Army and transferred its headquarters to the theater capital of Rigil Kent.[5]
As a result of Rigil Kent's proximity to Terra, after Operation ODYSSEUS the 283rd was the primary supply conduit to support the survivors of the 201st Division in their guerrilla war against the Word of Blake occupation. This came to an end after the retirement of Anastasius Focht in 3061 with the 283rd CO's Precentor Reardon bitterly opposed to the selection of Victor Steiner-Davion as Precentor Martial of ComStar. While still loyal to ComStar if not its newest Precentor Martial, a fact supported by ROM and Reardon's court martial of several Blakist agents discovered in the 283rd, many critics still question Reardon's true motives.[6][7]
