History[edit]
Star League Era[edit]
During the Star League era the Third Proserpina Hussars shared a common heritage back to a tank regiment of the same name that served under Coordinator Shiro Kurita and the Alliance of Galedon, before the Draconis Combine was born. Since becoming equipped with BattleMechs, the Proserpina Hussars served as rapid-reaction units, constantly on the move - often staying on a planet for little more than a month or two before moving on.[1]
The various Hussar regiments including the Third made a point of regularly challenging Star League Defense Force units to training exercises, and while the balance of victories lay with the SLDF, the Hussars always represented a challenge and won a surprising number of victories. Unfortunately, the very mobility that was a hallmark of the Hussars was also a disadvantage when it came to ensuring that they were kept adequately supplied, as demands for spares and matériel could take months to catch up to the demanding unit - as could new and replacement personnel.[1]
In common with the other regiments of the Hussars, the soldiers of the Third were concerned primarily with being the best soldiers they could be; the average member of the Third viewed politics as distasteful, and the high level of confidence each had in their own abilities could lead to the Hussars fighting on past the point at which they should retreat and taking heavier casualties as a result.[1]
Fourth Succession War[edit]
Acting on information provided by Fadre Singh, the Third Proserpina Hussars and Fifth Galedon Regulars pursued the families of Wolf's Dragoons as they evacuated Draconis Combine space. However, the Hussars and Regulars who were assigned to the duty were shamed by it and used the skill and valor of a battalion of Dragoon cadets as an excuse to let the families escape to Cassias.[3]
On 17 September 3028, the Twelfth Galedon Regulars Regiment landed on Wapakoneta alongside the Third Proserpina Hussars. After a nine-month war against two deeply entrenched regiments of Wolf's Dragoons the Combine troops finally gained control of the planet.[4] The Third Hussars faced the Fourth Provisional Company of Wolf's Dragoons.[5]
Following the lull in major offensives in early 3029, a number of new offensives began as the Fourth Succession War entered its second year. In early July 3029 Coordinator Takashi Kurita moved to Irurzun from Luthien and took more of an interest in combat actions on the border between the Draconis Combine and Federated Suns than he had earlier in the war, where his attention had been almost completely focused on Wolf's Dragoons. Ten days after arriving on Irurzun Takashi had drafted and launched a new offensive aimed at securing more worlds from the Federated Suns, and Lima was one of those worlds. Attacked by the Third Proserpina Hussars, the planetary militia on McComb were swiftly defeated as the DCMS inexorably annexed the Galtor Thumb region.[6]
War of 3039[edit]
The Third Proserpina Hussars faced the First Crucis Lancers and Albion Training Battalion on Capra. On 25 July, the Third Proserpina and Fifth Galedon Regulars contained the Federated units in the capital city of New Cassandra until the Fifth's Major General Grissom Miller attempted a sudden breakout attempting to surprise the Combine warriors.[7] The Kuritan units were soundly defeated. The action against the Federated unit cost the Hussars three JumpShips.[8]
Clan Invasion[edit]
During the Clan Invasion, the Third faced the Smoke Jaguars's Jaguar's Spirit Keshik on Kiamba. With the death of Galaxy Commander Dorian Wirth at Luthien in January 3052,[9][10] and aware of the Third's prowess, Loremaster Edmund Hoyt personally led the attack. After the Hussar's aerospace assets destroyed a DropShip, the Hussars's hopes were high and actually succeeding against the Clans was on their mind. This confidence only increased when the Jaguars fell into a trap in Hecate's Swamp set by the Third Hussars.[8] Unfortunately, the Jaguars responded to these attacks with an equal ferocity;[11] Loremaster Hoyt deployed a headhunter unit that tracked Tai-sa Richard Weston down and killed him and the majority of his command group. The demoralized Hussars fell back to make a desperate last stand at Collins Ridge [12] and the Third lost two battalions in the fight.
The unit was rebuilt, using the remaining troops and equipment from the destroyed Fourth Proserpina Hussars, as well as new recruits from the University of Proserpina and Dieron District Gymnasium.[11]
Operation BULLDOG[edit]
The Third Proserpina Hussars landed on Asgard as part of Operation BULLDOG.[13]
Jihad[edit]
During the Jihad the Third Proserpina Hussars were transferred to Kiamba to dissuade Ghost Bear adventurism. Once it became clear the Ghost Bears wouldn't attack the Combine, the Third redeployed to Niles to protect the DropShip yards in that system. This meant that by the end of the Jihad, the Third was actually closer to full strength than many Combine regiments. In the aftermath of the Jihad, the Third began petitioning the High Command for permission to attack the Dragon's foes.[14]

Tactics[edit]
Star League Era[edit]
As a regiment within the Proserpina Hussars, the Third was trained to fight in a fast, hard-hitting style, based on a well-rounded approach to combined-arms warfare, which was further reinforced by the large number of officers within the regiment trained at either the Sun Tzu School of Combat or the University of Proserpina. To prove themselves capable of serving in the Hussars, an officer or soldier could be tested by the Commanding Officer of each regiment in multiday exercises during which those tested would have to demonstrate their ability to cope with highly fluid and mobile combat situations.[1]
Clan Invasion[edit]
The Third has long excelled at hit-and-run tactics.[2] Following their near destruction on Kiamba, they have begun greater training in the traditional "stand-and-deliver" tactics of the DCMS.[11]
