History[edit]

The Third Republican Guards were formed in 3029 from the first and second battalions of Justine's Grenadiers and the second battalion of the Fourth Confederation Reserve Cavalry. These former Capellan Confederation units were "orphaned" during the Fourth Succession War and joined the new Tikonov Free Republic.[3] Justine Gordon quickly built a new regiment out of these two heavily-damaged units.[2]

In 3030, the Third Republican assaulted Wasat and forced the Fifteenth Marik Militia to withdraw after capturing their headquarters unit.[4][5] The Third was stationed on Van Diemen IV following the Fourth Succession War and was used as a deep raiding force against the Free Worlds League.[6] In 3035, the Third Republican raided the Nestor system while the Free Worlds League was distracted by the Andurien Secession.[7]

During Operation GUERRERO in 3057, the unit was caught unawares when commandos killed the Republican commanding officer and disabled the planet's command and communication networks. This allowed the Third Oriente Hussars to deploy from supposed commercial DropShips and the Republican trooper were overrun. Attempting a tactical retreat off-world, the Third Republican was cut off by the League armor, nearly destroying the conventional troops, but delaying enough that the Hussar commandos sabotaged or captured the Republican DropShips. Trapped, the Third Republican surrendered. They were unable to claim any salvage and ceded a company of 'Mechs to their captors. The remaining soldiers were eventually ransomed back two months later and reassigned to Yangtze.[6]
