The Sixty-first Royal Jump Infantry Division was a part of the Star League Defense Force Regular Army. It was one of the SLDF's Royal units, which consisted of troops from the Terran Hegemony.
History[edit]
After huge quantities of rare earth metals were discovered in the Wynn's Roost system, a land rush led to the Sixty-first Royal Jump Infantry Division being deployed to monitor events. By 2730, large quantities of the same rare earth metals found in the Wynn's Roost system had also been discovered in the nearby systems of Nerum, Renorsal, Vangburg, and Zebuluraskai, and the Sixty-first would spend decades garrisoning the local region. Nicknamed the "Cluster Rats," the Sixty-first practiced rapid deployments from one system to another throughout the cluster, and also managed to identify many of the transient pirate points located in each of the inhabited systems. This, combined with their presence, helped to prevent all but the most determined bandit groups from targeting these worlds.[1]
In 2764, the unit was still stationed on Wynn's Roost,[2] assigned as part of LXIV Corps, Eighteenth Army to the Periphery Military Region but was moved to an undisclosed area of the Periphery in 2765 to take part in the Periphery Uprising. The Sixty-first survived the war and the Hegemony Campaign, and followed General Aleksandr Kerensky on the Exodus in 2784.[3]

As an SLDF Jump Infantry division, the Sixty-first would have been formed from two brigades of Jump Troops, one brigade of BattleMech regiments, and two ground aero wings.[4]
