The Nineteenth Galedon Regulars was a BattleMech regiment in service to the Draconis Combine from the twenty-sixth century onward. Reactivated during the early Succession Wars from troops of questionable loyalty, it was considered a troublesome unit by the DCMS High Command throughout the thirty-first century and was deployed along the Combine's Periphery border rather than more significant war zones. During the Dark Age the Nineteenth was transferred to the more active border with the Federated Suns.

History[edit]

Formation and Reunification War[edit]

The Nineteenth Galedon Regulars seem to have been at some point in the Age of War. During the Reunification War the Nineteenth was first deployed to Sevon in 2581 as part of the Draconis Combine Auxiliary Corps, where they engaged the Pitcairn Legion.[4] In a campaign lasting from September 2582 to February 2583, the regiment then took Kazanka from the Outworlds Alliance's First Armored Division.[5] From Kazanka the Nineteenth then took part in the DCMS attacks against Outworlds forces on Prinis Prime, Quantraine and Milligan's World, but supply problems and ferocious Outworlds resistance ultimately led to the Combine units being withdrawn back to their bases. Further logistical shortages effectively sidelined the Nineteenth for the rest of the Outworlds campaign.[6]

Star League era[edit]

During the Star League era the Galedon Regulars brigade was kept to a limited size by the Star League Council Edict of 2650; when the Star League Council overturned the edict in the mid-twenty-eighth century the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery began expanding rapidly, but by 2765 only twenty-nine commands had been reactivated, numbered between the First and Fortieth Galedon Regulars and the Nineteenth wasn't one of the active commands.[7]

Succession Wars[edit]

The Nineteenth was activated as a combat command at some point during the First Succession War and was posted to An Ting at the war's end.[1]

The regiment began the Second Succession War on An Ting and had been transferred to Groveld III by the war's end.[8]

By the Third Succession War's end in 3025 the unit had been stationed on Bad News along the Periphery frontier.[9]

Ronin War and War of 3039[edit]

The Nineteenth did not see action during the Ronin War[10] and likewise saw no fighting throughout the entire War of 3039 as Bad News was not attacked.[11]

Clan Invasion era[edit]

By 3058 the regiment had been garrisoning the backwater world of Bad News for over thirty-five years. Evidence indicated that they had begun to operate without orders to hunt down bandits and raid Periphery worlds near Outworlds Alliance space. Any forces on these raids were labeled as on "extended maneuvers" and local mercenary JumpShip captains were paid for their service. As the Nineteenth's soldiers kept this activity low-key and took care not to implicate the Combine, the Warlord of Galedon and Coordinator declined to investigate further.[12]

The Nineteenth was not deployed against Clan Smoke Jaguar during Operation BULLDOG.[13]

Civil War era[edit]

The Nineteenth's long stretch of obscurity came to an end in 3067 when it engaged Clan Snow Raven forces at Kazanka's nadir recharge station. With his soldiers having lost a Trial of Possession the regimental commander destroyed the station, taking out the WarShip White Cloud as it was docking.[14]

Jihad[edit]

Stationed in the Tabayama Prefecture with the Sixteenth Galedon Regulars, the Nineteenth Galedon Regulars spent most of the Jihad traveling around the prefecture, "showing the flag" and rebuilding civilian confidence. At 85% of their pre-Jihad size, they were the largest Galedon Regulars unit in 3079. The unit was split into two groups, one based on Kazanka and the other on Tabayama.[15]

Republic Era[edit]

The Nineteenth did not join the DCMS' punitive strike against the Snow Ravens in 3083; though the unit wanted a rematch with the Clan warriors, it was too busy processing its new recruits. By 3085, the Nineteenth had redeployed to their new base world, Hun Ho[16]

Dark Age[edit]

The Nineteenth was involved with the invasion into the Federated Suns, but was forced back to Le Blanc after taking serious losses on Doneval II.[17]

During Operation PERCEVAL in 3147, the Nineteenth was still recuperating on Le Blanc when it was unexpectedly hit by the First Kestrel Grenadiers. The Combine soldiers soon rallied but an opportunistic rear attack by disgruntled mercenaries prevented them from saving their supply bunkers. Following the Grenadiers' departure with most of the mercenaries the Nineteenth crushed the remaining sellswords and then waged war on Le Blanc's underworld.[18]

Nonetheless, by 3150 the Nineteenth had still not put down Le Blanc's rebellious elements, and in February a combined assault by these rebels and the Third Davion Irregulars drove the regiment off-world.[19]

Tactics[edit]

The Nineteenth has been used mainly as a garrison unit and has therefore mastered defensive tactics. At the time of the Clan Invasion, the unit lacked any light BattleMechs and the heavy 'Mech contingent would hold the center while combat vehicles attacked enemy flanks and VTOL deployed infantry attempts to bypass enemy lines.[3] A particular favorite is a standing-line defense, concentrating fire on one target at a time, then driving forward to split the opposing force in half.[12]

Colors and Unit Insignia[edit]

Galedon regular units paint the District insignia of a katana over a black a blue triangle field on the upper right leg of their BattleMechs or the fuselage of their fighters. Their grinning jack o'lantern insignia and white and blue striped parade colors are used when appropriate.[12][27][28]

By 3059, the Nineteenth preferred to paint their machines gray to better mimic Periphery bandits on raids.[12]
