History[edit]

Star League Era[edit]

During the Star League era the First Lyran Guards was one of ten regiments within the First Lyran Guards Division, one of four Divisions of active regiments within the Lyran Guards brigade in the closing decades of the Star League's existence. Like the other regiments of the Lyran Guards, the First's loyalty was technically to the Commonwealth first and the Archon second, but all of the regiments of the First Division had been used at one time or another to keep powerful nobles in line.[1]

Like the other regiments of the Guards during this era, the First lacked any particular political ties—either regional or familial—unlike regiments in other brigades; commonly assigned to garrison postings, the First Lyran Guards and their sister regiments were postings of choice for those who wanted to work for the Commonwealth without either regional loyalties or particular ambitions. This led to the First and her sister regiments being manned by soldiers who were professional, but without the close-knit ties found in more parochial regiments. The LCAF was intent on generating more camaraderie and esprit de corps among the First and the other Guards regiments, but with little success by 2765.[1]

Operation REVIVAL[edit]

The First Lyran Guards were destroyed on Orkney during the Clan Invasion.[2]

Notes[edit]

This unit has a long history of appearance and disappearance. Mentioned as early as 1986 in the Gray Death Legion scenario pack, the unit couldn't be found in later books like the 1987 House Steiner and both volumes of the NAIS The Fourth Succession War Military Atlas sourcebooks, that all three featured for the first time details of many Lyran units.

In 1989, it appeared on the deployment table in the 20 Year Update sourcebook with an RCT status and in 1991 details of their fights against Clan Wolf can be found in the Wolf Clan sourcebook.

Again missing from the deployment table of the 1992 Objective Raids, the mention of their destruction on Orkney in Field Manual: Lyran Alliance from 2000 seemed to be an attempt to end their existence/nonexistence even if the Jade Falcon sourcebook from 1992 lacks any info about this and Technical Readout: 3058 from 1995 mentions them again under the Lynx entry, but this entry was removed in Technical Readout: 3058 Upgrade in 2006.

What seems to be an attempt at keeping up the continuity, Historical: War of 3039 mentions them in 2004, this time without their RCT status, maybe to give the impression that they were formed sometime after the Fourth Succession War to explain their nonexistence in the House Steiner and NAIS Military Atlas sourcebooks.
