History[edit]

The Great Refusal[edit]

In the aftermath of the Great Refusal the Ninth Raven Striker Cluster was among the forces deployed to Circe to secure the former Nova Cat and Smoke Jaguar enclaves, facing off against forces from Clan Wolf. One of the ironies of the battles on Circe was that the Ninth was at the command of Star Colonel Marilena Reinhold at the time - Marilena being an abtakha captured from the Wolves in 3043, and trusted to command the Ninth because of how well she'd integrated into the Snow Ravens in the following years. As of 3061 the Ninth was the unit holding the Kerensky Pennant.[1]

FedCom Civil War[edit]

After relocating to the Inner Sphere the Ninth was used mostly to hunt bandits and pirates. This duty, though important to the Raven's allies, wasn't something the Ninth took pride in.[2]

The Dark Age[edit]

In the mid-3140s the Ninth and the other elements within Alpha Galaxy replaced Beta Galaxy in the systems obtained from the Draconis Combine following the Palmyra Debacle. Viewed as being given Beta Galaxy's leavings, the assignment went poorly for the Ninth, particularly following Alpha Galaxy's earlier embarrassing defeats. Accustomed to displaying a highbrow attitude towards the population of the Raven Alliance, the Ninth's attempts to take the same approach with the population of Sinope resulted in a combination of violent protests and industrial strikes. The inhabitants of Sinope were convinced that it was only a matter of time before the Combine reasserted control over the planet, and had no wish to be identified as collaborating with an enemy of the Dragon. Similar problems were rife on Bad News and Zalaf, and massacres were reported on all three worlds, with all of Alpha Galaxy ill-equipped to deal with civilian protests.[3]
