A Day in the Life of Buffalo Jones is a short story by Geoff Swift that was published as introductory fiction for Turning Points: Orbisonia.
Plot Summary[edit]
The story is told from the perspective of MechWarrior Buffalo Jones of the Orbisonia Planetary Militia who struggles with the daily routine of his patrol duty and the missing chances of glory for a militia pilot. His thoughts are interrupted by a warning tone in the cockpit of his Wasp; as Jones learns from his lance leader, it is the general recall. When Jones catches up to his lance, he discovers the cause for the recall. Capellan forces have landed on Orbisonia and already gunned down two 'Mechs of his lance. Panicking and without any further thoughts about glory, Jones turns his 'Mech around and races back to base.
