Aiko Ueda was an officer in, and later commander of, the Republic of the Sphere's 212th Special Operations Battalion.[2][1]

History[edit]

Aiko Ueda was born on Irece and was only sixteen years old when the Word of Blake killed her entire family during a raid in 3072. Ueda came to the attention of Star Captain Elijah Lossey of the 212th Nova Cat Headhunter Binary when the Clan moved in to help with recovery efforts and the young girl's survivor mentality convinced Lossey to take her on as his protege. After a brief period as a bondswoman, Ueda quickly moved into the warrior caste and was made lieutenant of Sickle Company's Second Platoon during Operation SCOUR.[2] During the fighting to defeat the Blakists, Ueda earned a reputation for integrity among the unit's Clan soldiers and for ruthlessness amongst the Inner Sphere fighters, making her the only real choice to succeed Lossey as commander of the unit following his retirement in 3096.[3][1]

Major Ueda took the task of maintaining the rechristened 212th Special Operations Battalion as a force willing to do anything in order to gain victory seriously, seeking out the most dangerous missions possible while fighting against Capellan Confederation sympathizers and Blakists remnants within the Republic. Nevertheless, the use of Stone's Trackers against opponents unworthy of their skills, combined with an influx of new soldiers more interested in the unit's lack of oversight than its true goals, gradually dulled their edge. The advent of the Capellan Crusades provided Ueda with an opportunity to use the Trackers for their true purpose and, while she was privately concerned that they were not ready for a full-scale war, she successfully petitioned to have the 212th included with Stone's Brigade as part of Operation MAGNUS. After a few weeks of minor skirmishes, Stone's Trackers were presented with an immense opportunity after landing on Sarna in October 3112: the chance to assassinate Chancellor Daoshen Liao after the enemy ruler was left unable to evacuate.[3]

During the fighting against the First St. Ives Janissaries, Ueda's men achieved the glory they sought by repeatedly striking against the enemy force's leadership, rear lines, and supply trains. During the final push against the planet's Tengo Aerospace facilities, Ueda received permission to join Stone's Liberators in a flanking assault that gutted the warriors of Warrior House Lu Sann. Unfortunately, the Trackers were still present when Warrior House Imarra launched a daring orbital drop and took crippling casualties before disengaging. In the final fighting, Ueda perished alongside most of her men as the soldiers of House Imarra successfully escorted Chancellor Liao off-world. Afterwards, the few surviving veterans of the 212th Special Operations Battalion were carefully split between other special forces units and Stone's Trackers were officially disbanded.[3]
