The Republican Guards were the workhorse units of the Rim Worlds Army.[2]
History[edit]
The Republican Guards were formed in the middle of the twenty-third century as the Amaris Republican Guard.[1]
Reunification War[edit]
In April 2573, the Republican Guard and Fifth Amaris Fusiliers were directed by First Consul Gregory Amaris to restore order to the city of Eleazor on Apollo after the Rift Republican Army had attacked and taken over the Efrimal Long barracks and prison.[3] Two years later in April 2575, the Rim Provisional Government formed in the wake of a strike at the Diplass BattleMechs facility on Apollo and the Seventh Amaris Legionnaires and Eighth Amaris Dragoons defected. The Republican Guard was the only unit that remained loyal and retreated with Amaris to his fortified island estate,[4] where they remained until liberated by the Star League Defense Force in March 2596. Afterward, they assisted in the siege of the capital Terra Prime, forcing the rebel units and Rim Provisional Government to surrender five months later.[5] They suffered little damage during the Reunification War and quickly rebuilt.[1]
Repeal of Council Edict of 2650[edit]
After the Council Edict of 2650 was repealed in 2752, the Republican Guards exploded in size, officially numbering six division-sized formations by 2765. To cover the Rim Worlds Republic's vast territory, the Guards were broken down into mixed-unit brigades and many were stationed in former SLDF Castles Brian on Republican worlds.[1]
