For most of its history, Andurien AeroTech was the Free Worlds Defense Industries division responsible for the company's Small Craft and aerospace unit production.

Overview[edit]

Based on Westover, Andurien AeroTech was a relative newcomer to the defense industry when it merged with Gibson Federated BattleMechs in October 2562 to form Free Worlds Defense Industries. At that time, Andurien AeroTech had been manufacturing two escort craft and the merger provided the company with new investment opportunities. They would eventually design the Stingray in 2748 and the Riever shortly before the start of the First Succession War, and by 3025 these were two of the most popular aerospace fighters in the Free Worlds League.[1]

By the mid-thirty-first century, Andurien AeroTech had a number of subsidiary companies and contractors to support their main factories and workers, supplying everything from electronics and components to uniforms and catering.[3] By 3076, the company had expanded their portfolio and resumed production of the Deathstalker, an old Star League era prototype of which they had previously only made twenty.[1][4]

At the beginning of 3078, Andurien AeroTech announced that it was separating from their parent company. They cited the atrocities caused by the Word of Blake as well as an uneven partnership where they felt ignored by Gibson Federated BattleMechs.[5]

During most of the Jihad, the Andurien, Lopez, and Westover plants suffered no damage and were operating at maximum output in 3079.[6] However, the Lopez factories would be lost along with the planet following extensive asteroid bombardment in October 3080.[7][8]

Following the disbandment of the Free Worlds League and the establishment of the Duchy of Andurien as an independent nation, Andurien AeroTech benefited from the very loose export restrictions put in place by the Duchy in the 3080s. This meant that Andurien AeroTech products were soon seen well beyond the boundaries of the former League, with the Deathstalker being of particular interest to outside bodies. Andurien AeroTech was also able to circumvent government restrictions on sales to the Marik Commonwealth thanks to the location of the Westover plant.[7]

With a number of FWDI specialists in BattleMech manufacturing joining Andurien AeroTech after the Jihad, the company saw an opportunity to refurbish a shuttered BattleMech factory on Westover and create a subsidiary, to be known as Westover BattleMechs.[9]
