Anthony Harkness was commander of the Fifth Syrtis Fusiliers BattleMech regiment during the Fourth Succession War.[1]

In 3029, Anthony Harkness participated in the Sarna campaign of Operation RAT. As was the intention of General Gordon Hartstone, the Fifth Syrtis Fusiliers accelerated away from the rest of the planetary invasion force and landed two days early unopposed at drop zone "Pulsar." The 'Mechs landing north of the Gray River, however, were in for a surprise when they dropped into knee-deep mud and water.[1]
The Federated Suns' MIIO intelligence was tragically incorrect and all four regiments of McCarron's Armored Cavalry were waiting on-planet. The Fusiliers were ambushed at the Gray River and Colonel Harkness, having just ordered the Second Battalion out of the muck, was the target of Capellan soldiers carrying portable rocket launchers. His Marauder was bombarded by Inferno missiles and when he tried to punch out, the gel poured into his cockpit and burned him alive.[1]
