Major General Armand Surban was a senior Star League Defense Force commander before and during the Amaris Civil War.[1]

History[edit]

Born in the Terran Hegemony, Surban's family moved to the Rim Worlds Republic while he was a child, and he later attended the Andrew Jackson Academy on Apollo. Joining the SLDF after graduation, he became a tanker, in which role his tactical skills were mediocre.[2]

Despite the limitations of his skill in combat, Surban became recognized for his strategic and bureaucratic talents, and was recognized as a up-and-coming star within the SLDF's officer corps. Around 2754, following his division's suppression of an anti-Star League uprising in the Taurian Concordat, he was promoted to lead the Thirteenth Army at the age of forty-five.[2]

During the ten years to 2764 he reputedly worked wonders for this Army, trimming the fat from many units while conducting successful combined arms operations. Despite being assigned an area of operation within the Lyran Commonwealth, he also sought to position his troops near the Rim Worlds Republic border in an attempt to address concerns that the withdrawal of Twentieth Army would leave that area of space unguarded.[2]

Amaris Civil War[edit]

In 2765, before the beginning of the Amaris Civil War, Surban was still in his role as CO of Thirteenth Army,[3] despite rumors he might imminently be promoted.[2]

Later in the war however, by 2772, Surban had risen to command the Twentieth Army Group within Task Force Commonwealth. In this role during Operation CHIEFTAIN he led the assault on a number of Amaris held worlds near the Draconis Combine border, with many of his liberation targets falling without significant resistance from either their Rim Worlds or later Combine garrisons.[4][5]
