Arthur Chin was a MechWarrior from the Third Confederation Reserve Cavalry.[1]

History[edit]

Arthur Chin was born in Sian, the oldest son of a successful Capellan merchant who wanted to be a MechWarrior from a very early age. A close family friend, retired MechWarrior Peter Horne, got the blessing to start guiding Arthur towards a career in the CCAF when he was four.

Arthur was at the top of his classes displaying a focus and maturity in vast excess of his age, but his worst flaw was that he imposed to himself his own high standards. So profound it was, that any perceived stumble of failure to excel made him criticize himself in a way that bordered self-destruction. Though few in time, they always ended with a sharp and sudden period of self-loathing.

He was accepted in the Sian Center for Martial Disciplines. There he became close to one instructor in particular, Sao-Shao Jusu Park, a retired Death Commando who helped him to curb his intense need to criticize himself and freed him of such self-destructive behavior.

He was marked as an excellent officer-in-training as well as highly competent MechWarrior, and his marksmanship scores at the extreme ranges of the BattleMech firing range set SCMD records during his attendance.

Once graduated, he was assigned a lance command intended to reinforce battle losses within the Third Confederation Reserve Cavalry. He was able to select from a large pool of candidates and focused on selecting MechWarriors fitting what he had learnt in the SCMD. He was proven a shining example of the new breed of Capellan officers.[1]

Among his MechWarriors, he shared a genuine friendship with Sao-wei Li Hark, as both are very intense, studious, and dedicated to the Celestial Throne.[2]

When in 3068 the Third Confederation Reserve Cavalry came under fire and were still very much in the process or replacement and reorganization even once they reached their posting on Homestead, they faced a massive incursion of Federated Suns forces, the commanders of the Third CRC found their communications network disrupted, and in many cases neutralized. In the first hours of the attack, the Third CRC made a decision to abort its structure and splinter down to individual lance-sized elements. Of all these roaming lances, Youling Zhanshi, Chin's Lance, served with the most prominence. He was instrumental in developing the strategy used by the Third Confederation Reserve Cavalry and showed remarkable intuition in finding the best times and places to strike at invading forces. Time and again the unit struck at occupying forces.[3] During the those darkest days, Li Hark kept Arthur Chin focused and optimistic. Li Hark's endless analyses of enemy transmissions and intelligence data helped identify most of the targets the lance attacked during their infamous guerrilla campaign.[2]

He was contacted by Death Commando Jason Zaklan, also present on planet and Chin's lance supported Zaklan in his operations.[4]
