The Barlow's End system was the location of at least one habitable world or construct and as of 3152 was within the Draconis Combine.[2]

System Description[edit]

The Barlow's End system lies close to the Tishomingo and Udibi systems. It is located Spinward from Terra.[3][4][2]

System History[edit]

The Barlow's End system was colonized during the First Exodus from Terra,[5] and by the end of the Age of War had been incorporated into the Federated Suns.[6]

Planetary History[edit]

Star League Era[edit]

The planet's capital city was a sprawling megacity covering 16,000 km2 and was named Rough Patch. It was a dense network of tunnels and habitation domes. Many of these domes were built prior to the completion of the terraforming process. However, even when the planet was deemed fully habitable, the city continued to grow underground to protect its inhabitants against the solar flares from the system's sun. Despite the flares, the world was originally colonized for the massive germanium and iridium deposits found on world. Rough Patch is built on top of those first mining sites.[49]

First Succession War[edit]

Barlow's End was invaded during the first half of the major invasion into the Federated Suns launched by the Draconis Combine in May 2787.[16] Barlow's End was liberated by the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns in 2809 as part of the second major AFFS counteroffensive of the First Succession War against the Draconis Combine.[17]

Third Succession War[edit]

Thanks to terraforming, the planet Barlow's End is now habitable, with a breathable atmosphere and wooded areas. Notable locations include the Shaw district; the Landova sector, where a principal highway heads south from the city, turns west and crosses the Shaw River Valley over a flood control dam; the Shaw River (which is completely dry at certain times in the year); the densely wooded Renbourn Forestry Reserve; and Millon's Wood.[50]

The Achernar Proving Grounds, a military facility conducting research and/or manufacture, are located in Landova.[51]

Post–Third Succession War[edit]

In the last days of September 3026, the Ryuken conducted their first combat mission, along with the Alpha Regiment of Wolf's Dragoons, against Barlow's End. See Raid on Barlow's End (3026).[52]

Dark Age[edit]

Initially a contested world in the aftermath of the Jihad, Barlow's End was firmly secured for the Federated Suns by the newly-rebuilt Second Robinson Rangers at some point in the mid- to late 3090s.[53]

In the early stage of the Combine's invasion of the Federated Suns in 3144, Barlow's End was garrisoned by the Second New Ivaarsen Chasseurs. The Chasseurs were eventually forced to cede Barlow's End to the Combine after losing over half of their 'Mechs and a platoon of Destriers who sacrificed themselves to cover the withdrawal, but not before severely damaging the Sixteenth Galedon Regulars.[54] [55] Afterwards the Combine made it a Prefecture capital of several conquered Suns worlds.[3]
