Description[edit]
The so-called Battle Tripod, officially designated R-H3L-2X, was an early concept for a tripedal BattleMech proposed in the first stages of the Republic of the Sphere's Rhodes Project. Proposed by engineer W. Orson,[2] it and its fellow Helix-series designs, the Scout Tripod and Harvester Tripod, officially never reached production, supposedly failing at the concept stage.[1][3]
However, there were multiple reports in the following years of mysterious tripods matching the Helix-series designs active on planets in and around the Wall. Of particular note was a rumored raid on Bryant in 3138 featuring all three tripods, including around four of what conspiracy theorists would call the Battle Tripod, wreaking havoc across several communities.[1][3]
Weapons and Equipment[edit]
The Battle Tripod carries an experimental RISC Hyper Laser, mounted atop the machine. Two Clan-spec SRM-6 pods support it, mounted on the sides of the 'Mech in place of articulating arms, with two tons of ammunition to draw from. A Guardian ECM suite and twelve tons of Clan ferro-lammellor armor protect the tripod, and a 300-rated light engine keeps it moving.[1]
Design Quirks[edit]
The Battle Tripod has the following Design Quirks:
Related BattleMechs[edit]
- Scout Tripod - One of the other Helix-series tripods.[3]
- Harvester Tripod - One of the other Helix-series tripods.[2]
Notes[edit]
- The Battle Tripod, like the other Helix-series tripods, was introduced in 2015's War of the Tripods. At the time of release, the events of the adventure - mysterious tripods assaulting Bryant in October 3138 - were not intended to be canon. Without a clear statement on the adventure's overall canonicity after elements appeared in XTRO:RISC, Sarna, out of caution, is treating War of the Tripods as non-canon.
