Battle of Barlow's End (3026)

Overview

In late September 3026, elements of the Ryuken would conduct their first combat operation on Barlow's End. They would accompany the Alpha Regiment and Zeta Battalion of Wolf's Dragoons to capture a prototype of a new weapon being transferred from Achernar Proving Grounds in the city of Landova.

The Ryuken, under the command of Minobu Tetsuhara, would launch a decoy assault on the city of Landova and the Achernar Proving Grounds while the Dragoons, under the command of Kelly Yukinov, would attack the transport carrying the prototype in a hit-and-run assault in the Shaw Valley.

On the night of October 1st, Minobu and Kelly were caught in a suspicious skimmer explosion. The explosion was most likely the result of schemes put in place by Jerry Akuma, a rival of Minobu. Possibly with the support of Warlord Grieg Samsonov. While both men survived, they were severely wounded.

The operation would continue with Tai-sa Elijah Satoh, an officer loyal to Samsonov, taking over command of the Ryuken. Meanwhile, elements of Zeta Battalion would successfully hit the convoy carrying the prototype. However, before they could seize their prize, they were attacked by elements of the Eridani Light Horse. A surprise as the unit was not expected to be on world at the time. The Dragoons quickly called for reinforcements from Satoh, but Satoh was too wedded to following the "plan" as originally envisioned and focused on the fake attack on Landova instead of helping the Dragoons. Attempts to force Satoh to change his mind failed.

After some units of the Dragoons moved it to assist Zeta Battalion, they realized that could not do any more unless the Ryuken supported their efforts. Considering their part of the plan fulfilled, the Dragoons began to withdrawal from battle and then left the planet without the prototype. The Ryuken would stay in the fight for one more day before they too fled Barlow's End.

When the Eridani forces seized the former command HQ of the Ryuken, they would find Elijah Satoh dead from a gunshot to the back of the head.

The defeat on Barlow's End would give Samsonov a political black eye and his antagonism toward the mercenary Dragoons continued to grow.
