Overview[edit]
The conquest of Kittery was perhaps best known for a confrontation between a lone Second St. Ives Lancers Goliath and a pair of AFFS Wasps and Stingers. The Goliath struggled to target the nimble ’Mechs once they closed to knife fight range. Though both Wasps were destroyed, the quartet succeeded in worrying the heavier ’Mech's armor until the Wasps touched off an ammunition explosion. Once the decision to pull the Confederation's "elastic defense" back to Vestallas and Taga was made the remaining Lancers struggled with how to retreat off world. With intelligence suggesting the AFFS was here to destroy Capellan military as much as take the world, they couldn't be trusted to allow a peaceful withdrawal. The Militia Commander came up with the solution; Militia's two companies of tank forces, hit the AFFS forces along a shifting flank which forced them out of position and allowed the Lancers to retreat.[1][2][3]
Aftermath[edit]
The Planetary Militia melted into the populace and formed the core of the Kittery Tong. AFFS commanders initially patrolled the jungles during the day, and kept taking losses. Despite initially attributing these losses to the Tong it was soon learned the diurnal Godan were the culprits.[1][4]
